I love Metal Gear Solid. MGS is one of my all time favorite series. It has never disappointed me except for being to short. I definitely feel like I am playing a double 007 commando. The story here is pretty good. The action even better. I don't want to make any comments but it is very very realistic and very on point.
Every little detail fine-tuned like hideo kajima and the konami crew crawled through dilapitated third world buildings and drove humvees around getting mortars and artillery launched at them.
The game plays a stunning 1080p and looks and plays wonderful.

i wish that this would be ported to the PS Vita because the game would suit touch screen and it would also suit the final battle against Liquid Ocelot. I say that we should write a petition to Hideo Kojima requesting that he port this awsome game to the PS Vita for die hard MGS fans

This is one of the best games ever made on the PlayStation 3. This game is definitely worth your money. This game is very outstanding and it feels like you're in a movie. The cut scenes are about an hour long and makes you feel like you're actually watching a movie because it is so realistic. The game is great! Worth the time and money!

I honestly love Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I started playing the series and 2008 and it's one of my favorites in the game industry. I've played the four main titles, not necessarily in sequence. In fact that's a weird story. I played Metal Gear Solid 2 first, then the first Metal Gear Solid (on Gamecube, the best), then Metal Gear Solid 4, and most recently, Metal Gear Solid 3. I digress, Metal Gear Solid 4, an otherwise quality game tends to be hindered by the melodrama that comes with its series' long past. Metal Gear Solid 4 puts you back in the shoes, after two, games of Solid Snake, who is now very old, but still in somewhat good shape. And now, although you can most certainly sneak like in past Metal Gear Solid games, your option to go guns blazin' is quite possible, or more so than before. It is now what I consider a full-on third-person shooter. The shooting has been polished to the core and although not on the level of Gears of War, I do like it. Snake's main objective is to stop Liquid Ocelot (a mix of Revolver Ocelot and Liquid Snake) from unleashing a plethora of war machines upon the world causing a world war. Along this path, Snake meets a few new faces, but mostly old faces. Now, I am grateful for this, but when you meet every old character, it feels like soap opera. "Meryl?!", "Raiden!?", "Ocelot!!!" There is so much more drama than is needed and of course when you meet a character you have the option to see a photo of part of the game the character was previously in. This is why I like Drebin, the guns launderer. He's cool, spontaneous and owns a soda-drinking monkey. Plus, he's extremely informative. Also, even though you see almost every single old face, even including Solidus Snake's, Snake goes somewhere I never expected: Shadow Moses, the location of the first game. This is far from a complaint. I loved traversing this area because it brought back lovely memories of the first game as a whole,, not an insignificant part of a certain game. Much has changed since first three games, though. Raiden is a ninja-cyborg, Meryl can fire a weapon without hesitation, and we actually see Naomi. Aside from the game's story and all the melodrama, both nostalgic, but mostly annoying, the game's graphics are pretty good. Of course, this was 2008, but they hold up very well. The soundtrack is my favorite ever in a video game. And the writing is superb. The Metal Gear Solid games' plots have always been hard to follow. I think that's somewhat intentional on Hideo Kojima's part, but it's one of my favorite stories in all of gaming. There are many layers to the fabulous story and they are fun to follow. This game, going along with the melodrama, is quite emotional. I cried at several points, let out a chuckle, said "oh awesome!" and said "hey, I remember that." I will admit, I don't hate all the melodrama because this is "the end" of Solid Snake's adventures, though I am quite excited for future Metal Gear Solid games. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a fantastic title with refined gameplay, fantastic graphics, and the best music in the industry. With a plot ahead of the pack, I'd darn near call it the best series of al time. Melodrama is the game itself's biggest weakness, but the game's nostalgic feeling is also definitely prominent and nostalgia is one of my favorite feelings in video games, most specifically when you get attached to a particular series. Regardless, I am hopeful that more Metal Gear games will be developed and released even though Solid Snake's have come to a "close." Here's to hoping there will be many more Metal Gear games to come.

It's a very beautiful game. It's very emotional, the story is top notch. The soundtrack is great, gameplay can be a tad confusing at time, but once you get used to it, it's fine. There one problem with this game, however. People are fast to call this a masterpiece - the story sure is. But the game itself - well, there isn't enough actual gameplay for me to give it a solid 10/10. The Big Boss emblem is proof of that - it tells you that actual gameplay on it's hardest difficulty is roughly somewhere below five hours. Most of the game is cutscene, and the ending is about two hours long... and it's all cutscene. I will admit this game is one of the greatest games I have ever played - but if it were released now, I would think it would get harsher reviews and how short the gameplay actually is. Also, I'm very sad they took down Metal Gear Online - I got this game after the servers were shut down. Hopefully they start another one next-gen, or else I'll never be able to experience it.

I've been a fan of Metal Gear Solid since the first one and will consider this one of the best ones. I bought a PS3 just to play this game. This game had a pretty great storyline and gameplay. The GAMEPLAY in this game is shifted to a free-form game similar to MGS3: Subsistence and other modern 3rd-person shooters, you can change your suit similar to the camoflage system from MGS3 but it is called the octocamo, you blend the environment by holding a wall or crawling, like if you are on grass your suit changes to grass color. You can either sneak without being seen or just shoot at enemies if you are impatient because i consider it stealth-action game. You get to even change Snake's face to Young Snake, MGS1 snake, Otacon, Campbell, Raiden, and more. Whatever costume or face you wear, some of them can have the enemies react. You get to play dead to fool your enemies which is also what I love doing. There is also a gauge below the health meter called "Psyche Meter", similar to the stamina gauge from MGS3, but instead of hunting for food, you have to make sure snake is active because the lower the pysche Meter, the more trouble you will have with shooting or concentrating, being spotted by the enemy, temperature, extremes, but in order to get it higher you listen to an iPod in the game and you can find songs hidden throughout the game and Snakes Psyche Meter will go higher, but theres more to it than that. You can crouch while walking this time. You can also use the Mark II which is a little robot that can be useful by being invisible and knocking out enemies for the player to advance. You can still grab enemies and slither their throats like MGS3 and you can put a gun in front of their face so you can take away their weapons, items, etc instead of them giving them to you and you can knock them out. You shoot enemies, robots, and have a REX VS RAY battle. There is also a feature called Drebin system in which you purchase ammo and weapons. After you purchase the weapons you can keep them and you don't have to buy them the net to you play the game after you finish it. There are plenty of weapons to choose from. There aren't that many codec calls from the previous games which was sad. Boss battles.. well i don't want to spoil them. During cutscenes, there is a flashback mode to where you have to press X to see the flashbacks. The STORYLINE in this game is pretty depressing and the final chapter of the series, but may be confusing for those of you that never played a Metal Gear Solid Game.If i were you, Its best to play the previous ones first, like get the HD Collection and you will understand what's going on, and download the first one on PSN and play Portable ops on PSP. The story is about Solid Snake now called "Old Snake" because he looks drastically old which will be explained in the game, it is a story that is emotionally well-devoloped and talks about politics, war economy, genes, and sense .The characters in this game have a lot of background and deep stories and it has connections from the previous games. Cutscenes are pretty great, but some can be kind of to the point to where they don't have to make cutscenes way too long and shortens the gameplay and the whole game is pretty long when it comes to cutscenes, Its fun in the beginning. You will still see all the characters you seen from the previous games. The ending is even better. GRAPHICS in this game looked great back when it first came out, from what i see its one of the best PS3-exclusive graphics i've ever seen. The SOUND for this game sounds like these war movies and it matches the game and David Hayer sounds better than ever voicing snake with an old voice and the other voices for other characters match. LASTING APPEAL for this game is that once you complete this game, you will have everything that you unlocked and you can experience the game a little bit more and its best to save a game file for one chapter so you can enjoy replaying that mission when you want. and if you are a hardcore die-hard Metal gear fan, those that like movie-like cutscenes, hollywood films, and deep story-telling, this is a game for you and it had some nostalgic moments this is one of the best ones. For those that are new to Metal Gear and for casual gamers, play MGS: HD Collection and MGS1 on PSN and MGS portable Ops on PSP, and you will understand what the story is all about and if you don't want to see the cutscenes, skip them continue onto the game and once you are done with the game, replay it and watch the cutscenes because they play a larger role in each game, but more longer in this game. The good thing is that now you can play this game withouth having the game to be loading in-between chapters because of the new installation of the trophy patch. The only bad thing about this game is that the online is no longer in service. Overall, its worth it for hardcore fans for a grade of 90 and casual fans may or may not like it for its very long cutscenes which may be a grade of 80, and the trophy patch may increase the value a little bit but i enjoyed the ending a whole lot more because that was a fantastic way to end the series. Just wait for MGS: Ground Zeroes and MGR: Revengeance to come out, and MGS5.

Few games have ever questioned human qualities like compassion and love and put them into a great game like the Metal Gear games have. From every aspect, this game is incredible, and it is powerful and moving. Even the few silly moments of the otherwise sad story mix into the core of the game. As a die-hard fan of the series, I can't see a better game for an ending to the legend, Solid Snake. His story is touching, and every character is magnificent. The graphics and sound are amazing, and the gameplay is fantastic. There are tons of secrets in the campaign, so you have reasons to go back to the game multiple times. Even the new online mode is great. The only problem is that you need to be familiar with the other games to enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4. Otherwise, you'll just be confused. Either way, Kojima Productions has outdone themselves this time.

This was really good in every way except that it had mostly cut scenes and not enough gameplay. The online is shut down now but they just added trophies. And do not play this metal gear first. But overall great game.

The Metal Gear Solid series is a weird one for me. I started Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which was definitely a wrong choice. Immediately, I had no idea what was going. I knew of Solid Snake through Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but when I saw him emerge from the water and onto the tanker, I was like "...what?" Then, they introduced to new characters and mentioned plot points from the previous game that I had no idea about. So later on that year, I bought Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid on Gamecube. So everything began to make a lot more sense and, subsequently, I enjoyed and was intrigued by the story exponentially more. I have Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but I feel bad because, even though it's a fantastic game, I have yet to finish it. So, I came to Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3. I hadn't touched the game for a long time after I had it, but began to play it and enjoyed. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots continues the story of Solid Snake, a stealthy operative who intends to stop Ocelot (really possessed by Solid Snake's brother from the first game, Liquid Snake) from taking over the world with nuclear weapons of mass destruction referred to as "metal gear." There are different classes of Metal Gear, but that's not the point. Solid Snake is a very old man, given that he is a clone of his father and clones age considerably faster than an average human being. So yes, MGS4 right away introduces you to familiar faces, so if you have not played previous games in the series, please do so. There are some nex faces, but mostly, it's a nostalgic feeling that comes over the player because of how many flashbacks there are. In fact, I am going to stop right here. I give MGS4 a 10/10 it's a near-perfect experience, but to me there's one major flaw. The most relevant way I can relate this flaw to something is this: Scrubs Season 8. The game (or season) gets so caught up in the past with characters and plot elements that it sometimes forgets the present, but that is definitely not to say it completely forgets it. Other than that flaw, the game "caps off" the story of Solid Snake perfectly and is a very satisfying ending to one of my most beloved series. As for gameplay, it is very different from the first two games. It seems more Gears of War, largely, than Metal Gear Solid because they game almost entirely relies on third-person shooting. Obviously, you're gonna have stealth segments in the game. There's no question about that, but the camera angle is now behind snake at all times. There are two ways to play it, for the most part: 1. go in guns blazing or 2. go stealthy. I went in guns blazing all the time because I have little patience in video games and it's the reason I consider MGS4 to be a third-person shooter rather than a stealth game. Of course, you have new gadgets and toys, like the suit that adapts to the environment around you, much like a gecko and Snake Eye, an eye patch the includes night vision and many other useful things. The gameplay is very fun, occassionally changing it up with helicopter segments and even a part where you get to ride a Metal Gear REX (REX is a class of Metal Gear). The graphics are really good, both in-game and in cut-scenes. Cut-scenes are a huge part of the games, as they often are very long, but are very entertaining so I could not complain. The environments are nice, the character models are very well-done, but effects like explosions are not as well-done. The voice actors once again reprise their roles as their respective characters and it makes for an excellent performance. I've always liked the characters of Metal Gear Solid. The music is very good too. One of my favorite soundtracks in the industry for sure. While the single-player is one of the best video game experiences in recent memory, I could not speak for multiplayer because, in a game like Metal Gear Solid, it doesn't interest me. The game is fantastic; it keeps you interested and entangled in the story from beginning to end and is an extremely nostalgic experience, both good and bad. This is certainly one of the highlight exclusive games for PS3.

2nd best of the series so far

this game is most like the original metal gear solid, i personally didnt like 2 or 3, loved the 1st one, this one is perfect for anybody, if your unfamiliar with the series, the start of the game could be slow for you, but awesome game once you get going into it. since its a ps3 exclusive, i personally think they should have made more use of sixaxis in the gameplay but they did use it some.

Even after years after its release I still love MGS 4. I have all of the main titles and I must say it doesn't disappoint. This game right here could have ended the series and I would have still been satisfied. I do recommend you play the MGS games before this one though, in the Order of MGS 3, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, MGS 1, MGS2, MGS4, because the plot is very long, curve balled and can be confusing.
