Does the hd pvr 2 gaming edition record your voice while you have your mic plugged in and are talking to friends?

So, does the hd pvr 2 work when an hdmi cable is already plugged in, does it give the tv hd also? Also when it records, are you able to talk into a mic and have you voice in the recording?
