If you're a monster hunter fan like me then you shouldn't even think about anything...just go buy the game! I am 100+ hours into the game and i still haven't beaten it. First you have the village quests that took me 60+ hours to beat and i still have city quests to do. I have done low rank, and high rank quests (which still are not completed) and I just unlocked G rank. (Great Rank) G rank quests are the hardest quests in the whole game so i am expecting about 75 hours of those types of quests. There are 73 total monsters in the game and 51 of them are large monster that require you to take time to kill them. The graphics in this game are AMAZING! Though HD graphics on the wii U would make the game a little better. The controls in this game are great except for the camera controls for under water. (Only if you don't have a circle pad pro) It gets a little clunky when you're moving around in the water then you have to slow down to turn your camera. Luckily, the "target monster" button on the bottom screen helps with that. This is pretty much the only thing WRONG with the game...it has no online what so ever. The only multiplayer it has is with local wireless. No download play, no Nintendo network. Just local wireless. So, Capcom, in the future, please put online multiplayer on ALL of your Monster Hunter games.

I currently have 170hr gameplay on the 3DS (without a circle pad pro)
Even though it isn't a 3DS-XL or Wii-U, the graphics are still neat and the gameplay is awesome.
Without the circle-pad-pro, the camera angle kind of sucks, especially in the water, but the auto-camera makes up for it, but I would recommend getting a circle pad pro.
My roommate has MH3U on Wii-U so I often compare the two platform.
Other than the fact the images are smaller, due to the small screen in comparison with a big TV screen, the gameplay isn't that different.
3DS only gets to play with other players on LAN, but if you are a MH-Vet, you usually go hunting by yourself or with your own hunting group/pals, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.
Overall, I love this game.

I've never really been into the Monster Hunter series because I never really gave it a fair shake. I own the Wii U and 3DS versions and I've been switching my saved game back and forth between the two. So far I have over 30 hours invested in this game. When they said you could spend up to 500 hours on this game they weren't kidding. Word of advice to anyone considering this game, there is LOTS of grinding, you will fail often, and some aspects of the game are kinda silly as in Japanese silly. I wasn't prepared for this when I bought the first MH game on the PS2, and as a result I didn't really like it. But now that I understand more about this game, the more I like it.

This game has the best graphics for 3ds and the weapons look awesome. The game is pretty tough for newbies to monster hunter (like myself.) But after a few big kills and you get the swing of things. After you kill a boss you feel pretty proud of yourself and there is always something to do. Pretty cool game to kill time.

This is the first monster hunter game I have played and I love it. I bought it Monday and played it for 35 hours throughout the week and have decided that this has to be my new favorite game. Part of what I liked was the amount of content which was also a key factor in my buying of the game. Most of the game just feels so satisfying especially when you attack a monster and cut something up enough to damage it such as the tail, that just makes you want to scream out how do you like that. And another thing was the weapon choices. They made the weapons feel as if you were playing a totally different game for each weapon like if you used a switch axe and you were slashing stuff up (I have been using the switch axe the whole time but i did play all the weapons in the demo) it would feel so much different to switch to a bowgun. Unfortunately the 3ds version does not have online multiplayer; however, I have a friend who came over and played it with me just today and we had so much fun for five hours of just hunting rathians and ludroths and even the lagiacrus. My friend happened to be a seasoned monster hunter and that really helped even though he didn't have good armor, which shows that its not necessarily a matter of having the best armor but also of skill. That being said it is still very easy to jump into the game without any monster hunter experience and get the skill for your self which makes it appealing to new people wary of the game. If you are on the edge about this game don't think any longer get your but to gamestop and buy Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate!

graphics on the 3DS version are as beautiful as they could be, the sound is just great eventhough most of what you hear when hunting is the monster lol, the gameplay even on this version is no less than what i'd expect from a monster hunter game, the online gameplay is the only thing i wish was a little different cause i wish you could play over the net and not have to have someone right near you to play online but thats ok with me cause im more of a lone gun or lone hunter lol, but overall pure greatness on the 3DS version love it :)

Played the Wii Version of this game and fell in love with it. When reading the teasers last year made me excited to get this version. Exactly like the Wii version but with bonuses. Easier to play with the Circle Pad Pro, but still easily playable with the standard settings. You want a game you can go back to, buy this game.

Slaying giant monsters is always a great way to pass the time, that and the sense of challenge will always keep you on edge. With your character able to arm himself with multiple weapons and armor styles your character can look awesome in lots of different ways. Note if you do get this game get a circle pad pro, it will make things easier on you and take away the completely unnecessary challenge of controlling the camera while dodging the merciless and unrelenting monsters. My one criticism is why didn't they use two analog sticks for this game yet I mean really Monster hunter is the last new game that I know of in existence that doesn't use another analog stick or L and R buttons for easy camera control.

I've played monster hunter freedom 2, monster hunter freedom unite, monster hunter tri, and monster hunter portable 3rd(which I imported from Japan since there wasn't a US release) before getting 3 ultimate. Collectively I probably have almost reached 1000+ hours in the monster hunter series which each game having 200+ hours. This has become my favorite game series and never ceases to bore me. And I've never needed the multiplayer experience since the only time I had it was for monster hunter tri. With the multiplayer the game does become much more fun, especially with friends, but even so I've had a great time without it. Once MH3 Ultimate was announced for US release, I instantly bought myself a 3ds. I had no games for it and never touched it. I bought it solely for Monster Hunter release and now that I have it I can say there is no regret. This game is all I expected and more. This game can be really hard on the newbies but I love finding other Monster Hunter players which happen to be so rare nowadays in the US. I offer any help I can give whether it be through advice or multiplayer to help any newbies out. So I'd love to be seeing more people get in the Monster Hunter game series. So my only advice is you have to give this game time. Trust me once your past all the grinding and gathering in the first hours of the game, it becomes an instant joy ride when you just have to focus on jumping, slashing, diving, and lunging at the countless monsters you get to fight in the game. Sure it takes a while but it only makes it more rewarding once you get it done.

This game is far superior to the original tri in almost every way. More monsters, weapons, quests, and armors for the most dedicated hunters. It is still a little bit easier than unite but still just as amazing. If you love monster hunter tri then you'll love this port.

This is more of an overview than a review but I felt like SOMETHING needed to be posted about this game. Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) Ultimate is an expansion to 2010's Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii. In addition to new monsters from Portable 3rd, this games also brings in new monsters like the White Nargacuga and Guran Miraosu. Unlike Tri, all 12 weapon types are back. Another new addition is G-Rank quests which are MUCH harder than High Rank. Every thing from Tri has returned such as random gather spots to underwater fighting. The 3DS version ONLY has LAN multiplayer but it does support save game swapping so if you get a Wii U down the line you can use your save data and go online with it. Another new thing that us MH vets would appreciate is the starter armor set. Leather Armor is the new starter set. Leather Armor is known universally as THE gathering set. The first 10-15 hours of every Monster Hunter game will unfortunately be spent farming for money and materials to make potions, weapons, traps and so on. Having Leather armor helps speed up the process just a little bit. The graphics are also very good. MH isn't known for it's graphics but they look much better than Portable 3rd's and could even give Tri a run for it's money especially when 3D is cut on. Gameplay is basic Monster Hunter stuff. Hack, slash, block and evade. However, the touch screens allows you to customize your UI a bit. You can choose to have your Health bar/ map on the top screen or the touch screen. Basically anything in the start menu can be thrown on the touch screen for easy access. Another new feature is the monster lock-on. Basically, it centers your camera on the middle of the monster every time you press L. This feature can be turned on or off on the fly so if you hate it don't use it. This is helpful when you're underwater or if you don't own a Circle Pad Pro (which I HIGHLY recommend). For those of you who don't have a circle pad pro, there's a virtual d-pad on the touch screen that lets you adjust the camera that way. The circle pad pro definitely makes a big difference with camera controls especially underwater. It takes time to get used to it but honestly, if you're a newcomer to MH you're going to be pulling out your weapon when you meant to use an item and vice-versa A LOT. If you don't get what I mean you will when you star playing lol. Make sure you buy a pack of HIGH QUALITY alkaline batteries. The circle pad pro takes one battery but it lasts a really long time (100+ hours). Unfortunately, I can't give too much info on the quests because i'm still on my first 10-15 hours in the story mode. However, around the 4* area is when things really get to pick up. There's also village high rank quests. Generally, village quest monsters are weaker than their Tanzia guild counterparts. Solo Guild monsters are weaker than Multiplayer Guild Monsters. So there's three tiers of enemies. Moga Village, Solo Guild, and Multiplayer (Lan) Guild. Also, expect High and G-Rank quests to take a LONG time when you solo in the guilds. 10-15 minutes is normal when you're on equal fighting strength with monsters. Basically, what I mean by equal strength is fighting a High- rank monster with a high rank weapon rather than a g-rank weapon. G-rank (which is only accessible at HR7 in Tanzia Guild) can go from 20-40 minutes from what I've seen but in the end this is all based on skill. Might be faster, might be slower, it all depends on you and your skill. If you can beat this game entirely solo you will be 1000x better than the guys on Wii U who rely on help from 3 other people. In the end, we'll gain more skill and be the better hunters at the expense of longer play time. If you're faithful and make it to G-rank expect playtime to be around 300+hours. Also, if you have an internet connection at home be sure to download the DLC. All of them are free and it gives you 5000 resource points, titles, backgrounds and quests. Most of the quests come with tickets that you can use to create special event weapons/armor so be sure to check that out on a regular basis. A few tips: 1)Don't spend too much time getting Low Rank armors. Stick with one decent one (I use Great Jaggi) and focus mainly on weapons. The best weapons in the game (King Atiilart) start from the weapons in your item box and need to be upgraded into. Another good low rank set is Lagiacrus. That'll last you until High Rank. 2) Level up your farm a.s.a.p. This will save you from having to run to Moga Woods after every quest for herbs, honey, blue mushrooms...etc. 3)Take breaks. If you find yourself farming for the dreaded Rath(ian/alos) plates/rubies take breaks. You will stress the &*^# out over trying to get those materials. Take it slow and EVENTUALLY you'll get them. Same goes for all rare materials. I hope this helped the guys who were on the fence about this game. Monster Hunter is a really fun game and for those who have it, Happy Hunting!

I am an avid hunter keeping up with any and all news on Monster Hunter games and when I found out that this was to be localized I almost had a heart attack. So I reached deep into my pockets and shelled out $40 knowing that when I get this game, my social life will trickle down to nothing. With all the farming and tense moments, needless to say I cannot wait until I have it in my hands.

Want to clarify that this version wont be able to play online just LAN. with your friends, I choose this version because I don't care about online play and I want the portable experience back.

I have never played a Monster Hunter game before, but I have heard they are fantastic. I think I'll give this one a try.

Monster Hunter has been good ever since I first tried it out on the PSP. The graphics have mattered little to me, because the gameplay has been so much fun.
I'm stoked for this game, but it's too bad that the 3DS only gets LAN capabilities.

I don't know about the rest of you who have ever played this game franchise, but i simply cannot wait to get it. I was foolish enough to fantastic demo that is available on the 3DS market for free, and realized that this one would be just as good if not better than the last one. The only difference is really i can carry it around, new monsters, and as a result new weapons. Monster Hunter Tri was the only game i have ever regretted turning in for in store credit and i was just thinking about this game again when i found out about the new one coming out. I can personally say ill be at the midnight release, ill see you dedicated gamers there.
