Silent Hill 2 has what I find as the most intriguing and depressingly beautiful stories ever made into a gaming experience. I've played through this game about 6 times now and each time I have realized/noticed smaller, pertinent details about the game and its story that I've missed in previous playthrough's. Although the details have been small, they do help to further paint a portrait of a truly tragic story that leaves you feeling haunted even once the experience is done. My all time favorite game. I highly recommend. If you can deal with somewhat awkward controls and lots of darkness, you will not be disappointed... Well, I hope not at least, haha.
Im not one for writing reviews on basically anything and this will prob be the first and last one i do. I love survival horror games. There are not many out there anymore and the Resident Evil games while still fun, have grown weak in their scare factor. Silent Hill 2 is the king of all scary games. I remembered when i first played it when i was 14. I had my friend reading me the walk through and i was doing the manual work. I would not play it by myself, only when he was there. 5 years later when I was 19, I purchased the game again. I sat alone in my apartment with the lights off and played the first 40 minutes. I finally got so scared that i turned the console off and never played it again. Now again 5 years later, I want to play it but i lost the game and have searched every game stop and back ally video game store within a 50 mile radius of me and have found nothing. The music, the poorly lit buildings, the fog, the monsters, the camera angles, the cut scenes, the story, and of course pyramid head. All make for a master piece. And the 2nd scariest game to me all time.....Clock Tower. Im sure no one has played that game because its from 1995 but look it up.

The moment this game came out i found myself staying up all night for multiple nights playing this. It balances an epic story that grips you to the very end and gameplay that sets you running for safety. A perfect game for puzzle gamers and horror survival gamers. It is also, in my opinion, one of the best silent hills to date.

So I had heard years ago that this was an awesome, super-creepy game, but it was only recently I picked it up (was waiting to find someone selling it for less than $60 - no kidding, I saw prices that high & higher). After getting it, I still waited a bit to play, as I wanted some dedicated weekend-time to really commit to it. So when I found myself with a 3-day weekend due to a snow storm, I was ready to go. Of course, I played well into the night, deciding around 2am (after dying a stupid death) that I would come back to it the next day. Needless to say, I was thoroughly creeped out & it took a while to relax enough to really think about sleep. Before I died (but not the cause of it), I had my first real encounter with the dreaded, iconic Pyramid Head & had palpatations while running around that small space trying not to die & cringing at the sound of his Great Knife dragging on the concrete. So imagine my terror at about 3am when I hear the same sound outside my window! Turns out, someone was shoveling the sidewalk (snow storm, remember?) at that ungodly hour, making it near impossible to sleep 'til daylight. Anyways, in addition to the scare-factor of this game, the soundtrack is wonderful (fully worth buying wonderful), & the psychological aspects are astounding - everything has a significance, from the base monsters to the secondary characters to Pyramid Head himself. My only complaint about this game is that the controls were a little tricky to get used to, but other than that, it was a perfect experience.
