Note: To be honest this game was my first Yu-Gi-Oh game for the GBA. I played it for hours on end due to a lack of interest from people around me for playing the actual card game. This game has lost a lot of appeal though seeing as it is so old and out of date. This isn't to say that the game is bad, but it lacks all of the newest cards.
Story: As far as I can tell from playing this game for a few hours there isn't all that much of a story. You seem to just be playing against people to unlock more powerful duelists while trying to collect all of the cards contained within the various booster packs. Your game is essentially composed of constantly playing the same handful of five people until you've defeated all of them enough times to unlock the next set of duelists.
The AI opponent's tend to say a lot of nonsense before each duel about how they will win and then talk about improving their decks for the next duel. Though, if this works or not is beyond me since I can't recall from when I played it when I was younger and my time with it more recently hasn't shown much of an enhancement if any.
Gameplay: The game plays just like the actual trading card game. This makes this game a good way to learn how to play the actual card game.
Graphics: The game is the usual for most of the Yu-Gi-Oh games on the GBA. The cards tend to appear blank in your hand, but have a colored outline indicating if it is a magic (spell), trap, effect monster, normal monster, or ritual monster. The cards do look rather nice when you look at them in description mode during a duel or while editing your deck. You also get a good look at the actual face of the card when your monsters do battle or attack your opponent's life points directly. The game is a bit weaker graphically then Yu-Gi-Oh Ultimate Masters 2006.
Sound: The sound is rather annoying to me at least. The audio tracks seems geared towards being relaxing, but I tend to find it annoying. I also can't stand the default blips on the selection screen for who you want to play against either.
Lasting Appeal: This game is rather lacking in lasting appeal now a days. The game doesn't have an end goal really except to defeat all of the opponent's in the game and collect all of the cards, but since this game is so old it lacks monsters like the Elemental Heroes and various other cards like the Armed Dragon LV7.

I bought this game when it first came out and boy was I addicted. This game is so freakin awesome. It lets gamers duel characters from the show like Yugi, Joey, Kaiba, Marik and even Tristan. Although it does not follow a story line like its successor, it does however provide the gamer with the ability to customize their own deck. This game is one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh games and definitely one of the greatest GBA games of all time. Its really hard to get bored with this game. I can sit down and play this game for hours in a day. This game is really rare to come by. It was games like this that made the GBA and SP worth buying. I never got into the gameboy games, but being the huge Yu-Gi-Oh fan that I am, I had to try this out for myself. You can't go wrong with this masterpiece.
