Good Game but unpolished
PostedFebruary 5, 2011
---Gameplay--- There is a good amount of different game types in Dark Cloud 2 but they mostly feel unpolished. For combat, theres only 2 different attacks and 2 blocking moves that make the game feel very repetitive especially for being over a 60 hour storyline. Also, this game is above average for difficulty especially towards the end of the game where you can die constantly just to be sent back to the main menu. Spreda(golf) is more difficult than real golf. Imagine if you don't reach par, you lose, or if you go out of bounds, you lose a turn and go back to where you shot from. Plus the hole only works if the ball bounces either even or odd amount of times. Also, there are many obstacles in the way and in some areas, pretty much everything is a hazard. Fishing is simple and can be fun for awhile. Building towns is fun because you can build the way you want after meeting some guidelines. ---Graphics--- The graphics are decent in this game but there aren't too many character animations which can make some sequences look ackward. Most of the game are dungeons which are randomized maps that have the exact same enviroment for that area. This can really kill your motivation to advance when all you see is the same thing for a few hours. There is no CG in this game which I like but usually games with no CG you have seamless cutscenes but this game has a 5-10 second black screen in-between each part of the cutscene. So a 10 second clip can be followed by a 5 second black screen, then another 10 second clip and so on. Good thing there aren't many cutscenes in this game until around the end. ---Sound--- The themes and sound effects are good but when theres only a few different actual areas in the game, it can get very repetitive. Plus, if you kill an enemy as they are about to do something, it still makes the sound effect like they did something after they died. ---Lasting Appeal--- The script is so childish and illogical that the main characters usually speak about pointless things. This story feels on par with Final Fantasy XIII which was hit or miss with fans but this game is less mature. I can see this game going 2 ways with gamers, either you love it and can't get enough of it, or you find all the issues I listed above so annoying that you nit-pick nearly every aspect of the game. ---Overall--- It is a good game but unpolished. This series has a lot of potential but feels like it lacks the man power to make it great. I only played this game for the first time this year so my standards are much higher than that they were when this game first released but even then, a lot of the issues were still relevant. ---My Advice--- I don't recommend this game for buying unless you've enjoyed the first one or played this game before. For $20, if you have a PS3, pick up Demon's Souls instead.

Bright colors, amazing environments, and entertaining character design. Great battle system. Engaging plot; exciting, light-hearted and amusing.
Easy to pick up and play. A deeper understanding of the game 's Building and Synthesizing mechanics are not necessary to enjoy the game, making it a great title for younger or newer gamers. However, as an adult I have found this to be a rewarding RPG that I would recommend to any fan of the genre!
Had this title for 5 or 6 years now and I've replayed it at least twice.

One of the Best Games I've Ever Played
PostedApril 21, 2010
Dark Cloud 2 is one of the greatest PS2 games you could possibly buy hands down. The gameplay is interesting and at times can be challenging with it's Georama, but this game is DEFINATLY worth getting. The music is nothing short to amazing, the composer is a musical genius and I hope to hear more from him. The only thing I could possibly point out wrong about it is at the beginning of chapter three there is a giant voice misplacement when Max is talking to Dr.Dell. Instead of saying "Alright let's go!" as the subtitles suggest, he says "Not good at all, a few more days like this and she's done for". Other than that this game is perfection wrapped in a beautiful CD and in my opinion, way better than any Zelda game you could buy. I hope to see more masterpieces from level 5's musical and writing genius.
