Cool Twist on Usual Bond Games
PostedJuly 14, 2013
First, to anyone who is looking into buying this game because they have played other James Bond games, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent is not really a Bond game in the same sense as most others set in the Bond world. The reason is simply that the player does not play as Bond himself. This game is not a sequel or prequel to the classic : Goldeneye: 007 and doesn't have any relation of the aforementioned nature to other Bond titles, at least to my knowledge. So don't expect that from this game. In this game, the player plays as a rogue agent whom after losing his eye is given an actual golden eye and becomes known as Goldeneye. Now, the goldeneye isn't just some spherical piece of gold that looks like an eye embedded in his eye socket. The eye has certain powers that the player can take advantage of. So let's get to the review. STORY - The basic plot of the game is that the agent who becomes known as Goldeneye fails in a simulation that he and 007 are charged with completing by MI6 and is dishonorably discharged. Soon afterwards he takes up work under Auric Goldfinger and becomes his secret weapon in a war he is waging against Dr. No. The story is comprised of the various missions Goldfinger sends the agent on, save the last. GRAPHICS - The graphics in this game are great for an older generation title. The game takes place in a variety of different locations, each looks great. DESIGN - The level design in this game is good as well. As said before, the game takes place in a variety of different locations which keeps each level fresh and interesting. No mission feels the same. My favorite mission was the one at the Hoover Dam. Once you ascend to the top of the dam you face off against tank after tank with what ever you have in your hands, most preferably a basooka. Such chaos, such fun. GAME PLAY - The game play of this game is that of an FPS, that of most other Bond titles, there are some extra features added though that didn't exist in other Bond games, like Nightfire, for instance. For one thing, players can dual wield most weapons. The weapons themselves are different from other Bond titles as well. Many are more futuristic. Secondly, is the ability to take others hostage once you smack them a few times with your weapon. Thirdly, is the ability to use the abilities of the goldeneye which include disarming enemies, and activating traps from a distance. These features really add to the experience. Taking hostages in multiplayer is fun stuff. Complaints I have about the game play is the non existence of gadgets, like the grappling hook, that was present in Nightfire and Agent Under Fire. Also, is the lack of vehicle driving missions. In Conclusion, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent is a FPS that, at least to me, is a classic. The game play is great for fans of Bond games, because although Bond does not make an entrance except for the very beginning, many other Bond characters make an entrance. Multiplayer is great when some friends are over. Main complaint is just that the story of the campaign isn't that great/fleshed out.

As good as the 90's!
PostedJune 11, 2012
While everybody thinks that another game as good as the N64 GoldenEye would never be created, it appears that it was. This version of GoldenEye is just as good (possible better) than the one that appeared on the N64! It is definitely a top ten shooter on the PS2 and one that you should be today.
