Capcom has done it again. This is everything a sequel should be. Adding new touches to the gameplay while keeping the rest the same. With the exception of the story, stages, and bosses of course. VJ2 starts right where VJ ended. Part of the ending of the original is the opening of VJ2. If you're thinking about buying this and haven't played the first, stop reading and find a copy of VJ right now. Anyway, In VJ2, Joe and silvia learn their new enemy is "The Black Emperor". His plans might be a little too cliche for me, but luckily VJ2 doesn't focus too much on plot. However, because of how little plot focus there is, the final fight feel too much any other boss fight in the game. Speaking of bosses, if you played the first game, you know how most of the the bosses were incomprehensible. Not in VJ2. Now that I've covered that, lets move on to gameplay. Joe's moves are almost the same as they were in the original. When you hold down X, Joe uses Yamarashi, a Judo move where Joe grabs his opponent and throws them over his shoulder (once unlocked of course). Holding down Y allows Joe to use the Voomerang. Silvia's moves are a little different. Silvia uses her pom-poms and handguns to take out enemies. Silvia can use the Shocking Pink bombs (although she doesn't whistle the Mario Bros. theme) and Desperado. When you hold down Y a shield surrounds Silvia. If there are any enemies in the shield, Silvia will unleash a flashy gun combo on them. They can also be powered up through slo-mo. This move can be improved (to a maximum of eight) like Joe's Mach speed. Silvia actually can't use mach speed. She has replay instead. Holding down R and attacking an enemy repeats the attack two more times. If you take damage while using you'll receive three times the damage so be careful. In my opinion, it's not really useful in combat but it is necessary for certain puzzles. You can choose who you want to play as at the beginning of each level, but if you press Z, you can switch between characters. If you have a full VFX meter, holding down Z will call upon the Six Cannon. It has the ability to eliminate all enemies on stage, but it's can be had to use when there are a lot of enemies. I could keep going, but I should wrap this up. Gameplay: 9. The gameplay is just as good as it was in the first, but Silvia's replay move is kind of useless for combat. Graphics: 9 Graphics are unchanged from the first. Sound: 8. When the action gets out of hands the sound gets a little wonky, but "Henshin a Go-Go Baby!" still sounds great. Lasting Appeal: 10. I never get tired of Viewtiful Joe. Once you start playing, You'll have a hard time putting it down. Well, there's a lot more that I wanted to cover, but I think this is long enough. If you read this, thanks, and don't forget to actually buy this.
