Advance Wars is a great series, and this game really adds on to everything that fans have come to love about it. The bulk of Advance Wars is strategy and the gameplay, and that's where the bulk of this review will go. In the game, you play as a Commanding Officer in an army commanding troops across a battlefield against opposing COs, trying to obliterate their forces. To do this, you need to use your money supplies, factories, cities, and troops to the best of your ability. I thought the difficulty curve was great on this game. It was frustrating at times, but not to the point where I would completely give up on the game. The main story mode alone gives enough challenge and fun to most normal gamers. For those that want a little more, a hard mode, enormous War Room (where you can play dozens of maps purchased from a store for points), local multiplayer and more should be enough to tide you over for months and months. The strategy is top notch turn based combat as always, and the computer is always up for a fight. Elitists might argue that the AI is easy to exploit but I disagree; though I can see why people would play this game enough to see all the AI strategy ahead of time, it's not a worry for a brand new player or a casual fan. Everything in the game is easy to get to, menus are easy to traverse, and making your units do what you want them to is never a big deal, you move and shoot. Also, this time you can even use the stylus to choose units or revert back to the old method of the D-Pad, A, and B buttons. Both work just fine, it's just another way for you to choose how you want to play. Upgrading characters is an interesting addition, making them even more unique as you switch in and out upgrades. Old Commanding Officers are back, and many new ones have joined the fight. Though it's fairly obvious they don't try too hard to make the Commanding Officers entirely fair, each one has it's merits and is fun to use. The sound is fun, every characters theme is very distinct though can get tiresome after a while. The story isn't exactly bad, but it's just kind of odd I suppose. In accordance with the bright and oddly cheery sprite characters (they're in the middle of a war), the story makes the characters seem like they don't quite understand that people are dying, as childish taunts fly back and forth across the battle lines. I like it even with its quirks, though a gritty war game this is NOT. If you enjoy strategy at all, or just an occasional chess match, get this game. It's really that simple. It's turn based battling on the go done right, and even with it's minor faults, it is one of the DS's greatest games.

I loved the first 2 in the series on Gameboy Advance and this one takes it to a whole new level. My 7 year old has no problem playing it and wont put it down. Absolutely brilliant game for anyone who likes a strategy games and couldn't recommend it anymore strongly.

Well, just got this two days ago. I haven't played it much as I spent so long trying to figure out how to delete the saved data from the previous owner (L button + Right D-pad + Select, right after the game starts), but from what I've gleaned, it looks promising. Hopefully I can get connected to wi-fi while there are still folks playing. Shouldn't be too difficult, considering the quality of the game and the sheer fun of sending someone somewhere to blow stuff up!!! You there, review reader! Get this game, so I may command my forces to blow you up! That is all.
