25+ hours of Gameplay before replaying!
PostedMarch 16, 2011
I have been a Resident Evil fan since 1998 and even played the bad titles Survivor and Dead Aim. If a Resident Evil game has flaws, I will still mention it. ---GAMEPLAY--- Single Player gameplay that has a close third-person-view with over-the-shoulder aiming with most weapons and scoped view for those that have scopes equipped. There are quick-time events everywhere in this game from regular gameplay to cutscenes and you will need to be quick in order to beat this game. There is a variety of different pistols, 2 shotguns, 2 sniper rifles, a sub-machine gun, mine-thrower, rocket launcher, a knife, 3 different grenades and unlockable weapons that almost all can be upgraded multiple times in either strength, speed, reload time, clip-size, and a special depending on the gun like being able to penetrate multiple enemies or critical shot percentage. There are several different healing items that can be combined as well. The inventory that you have is upgradable but may not be able to fit all items sometimes. There are more than 30 variations of enemies and each have a specific weakness(es). There are about 7 bosses that pretty much all look grotesque and require some stradegy. At some parts, running is the only option or ammo is sparse and it can get tense. Sometimes you will have a defenseless girl to protect and guide through the game. You can command her to hide or follow. Monsters will either try to kill her or take her out of the area and the game will end if either happens. If you die, you can continue very close to where you left off. There are plenty of save points that are all marked out on the in-game map. ---GRAPHICS--- Best the PS2 has to offer. Very detailed characters, monsters, environments, and backgrounds. All of which fit the horror theme. Plenty of animations for the characters, and monsters and they all work great with the situations they are in. ---SOUND--- Creepy and tense soundtrack. Good voice acting but very bad dialog. This game's dialog and story strives to be like a Sci-fi channel movie, B-film, or classic horror film so don't expect to be awed by the story. There was only one instance where the wrong name was said but you may not even recognize it. ---LASTING APPEAL--- The story takes about 15-20 hours to complete the first time playing it. There is tons of extras and replayability in Resident Evil 4. After beating the game, you can start a new game with all the equipment and upgrades from the previous playthrough. Also you have costume select. There's also the option to play on Professional difficulty. There are 2 different stories unlocked, Separate Ways where you play through the original campaign as Ada but it tells her story of what happens through her journey with new cutscenes that add seveal hours of gameplay, and Assignment Ada where its basically just fast-paced fighting through different areas. Mercenaries unlocks after the first playthrough where you select from 5 different characters, 4 areas, and try to survive for as long as you can while racking up points from kills. It is very fast-paced and the most difficult mode in the game. Also you can watch all the cutscenes from the main story after beating it and Separate Ways after you beat that. ---OVERALL--- A very good game with the most hours of original gameplay compared to any Resident Evil and also can be very addictive to replay multiple times. Its borderline survival horror and action horror. Like many other Resident Evil games, the story is very unrealistic but achieves the horror theme. ---MY ADVICE--- BUY RESIDENT EVIL 4! If you enjoyed any of the Resident Evil games, this a must own.

Great for all who love guns and zombies.
PostedMarch 3, 2011
Resident Evil 4 was great to play, it kicks off right from the start with an eerie village, killer 'zombies' and lots of action. Warning: doesn't give proper control tutorial, so from start, play around with controls a little...or you're dead. One moment your walking past some trees, shooting birds and stealing their money, the next you'll be fighting a dude with a chain saw. The pacing is very evened out with new environments, challenges, and a good amount of guns to buy and upgrade, unless you're used to stuff like call of duty black ops, or soon gears of war 3. This version is rather down graded for its lighting effects, due to being a port and all, but even with this I've played through 6 times. But if your still on the ps2 buyer market and looking for a good gun game, with zombies, head splattering, a few eerie moments, and a good amount of extra options, then...here ya go. Also, if you want a story, that's here too, not the deepest or the best, but it's satisfactory enough.
