A long-lasting thriller
PostedMay 24, 2011
I got this game back in 2006, and I loved it... I recently went back out to Gamestop and re-bought it because I was just so in love with it. It is very addicting game to people who want Action/Adventure/Crime in their games!
Pros:
>A very Immense map for a game made in 2005 (about same size as GTA IV)
>A great weapon selection
> Great in-game balance
Cons:
>Bad vehicle handling

True Crime: New York is Better Than The Original!
PostedMay 11, 2011
You play as Marcus Reed, a young gangster-turned-cop who is out to clean up the streets of New York City with his own brand of off-the-books justice. Reed is the newest member of the Organized Crime Division in the NYPD, and he's eager to make a name for himself by taking down the biggest crime syndicates in the city. There are four major cases to solve, and each one involves taking down the same kind of stereotypical thugs and mob bosses you've seen in countless cop movies. Each case is broken down into several smaller missions that follow the same basic pattern. You get a tip about a bad guy, locate that bad guy, waste all his henchmen, and then interrogate him until he tells you about yet another bad guy that you have to bust. You then head off to do the same thing all over again in a slightly different location. The missions are extremely easy, and it doesn't take too long to complete each one.
Game Play: the story is a good mixture of mystery, suspense, crime and revenge. The controls and camera angles are difficult to adjust, but when you do, they’re pretty good. The frame rate is certainly at a playable level, just not super fast. You have the choice of how you play the game; you can play as a good cop or a bad cop. There are also many different weapons and fighting styles available for you to use in the game. Driving is good, but it's hard to navigate the traffic even if your car has it sirens on. The variety of random crimes is a nice feature, but it does get some what annoying some times since you kind of feel obligated to respond to the crimes, even when your trying to do something else (like drive to the store). There are lots of small features in the game that are cool. First, you can issue traffic tickets to motorists in order to gain a few dollars. Second, you have the ability to extort storeowners so that they give you money. Third that I find cool, but doesn't really serve a major purpose, is the ability to store weapons in your trunk (nothing like responding to an armed bank robbery, and pulling out an M16 out of the trunk of you police SUV). There was one mission that annoyed me, it was a mission where you had to trip up and apprehend a runner on a track inside of a gym. You would have to chase her, and when she saw you, she'd sprint out of distance, which can be tiresome when trying to complete the mission. In terms of leveling up, you will be promoted to various ranks throughout the Police Department. As you level up, you will be offered a new tier of weapons, new vehicles, etc, that are available from your headquarters. This adds to the game, and makes you want to complete more missions and arrest more people. As with the first game, you can plant evidence on others for the sheer enjoyment of arresting them. However, you may evoke some points on a bad-cop meter for doing so.
Graphics: in terms of True Crime: NYC is quite good and better than True Crime: L.A. The character models look decent and the cars are quite believable. Also, things like the reflection of city lights from standing water on the ground look great and very realistic. The game freezes up easily, which results in you having to reset the game quite often. The story ends very quickly and many of the missions are very similar.
Sound: is quite a mixed area of highs and lows. If you’re into rap, your going to love the sound track. There are quite a few other music genres to listen to, but rap is the main one. The songs are all from major artist, and really fit the whole mood of the game (action packed, and gritty). The voice acting is really good. There are several big name Hollywood actors whole lend their talents to the game, and the dialog is decent (above a cheesy cop movie, but not fantastic). On the other hand, the dialog from the pedestrians on the street is horrible. Everything they say has profanity, and a lot of the things they say are quite cheesy and annoying. The variable soundtrack, including Sam Scarfo’s Homicide Chat track, helps add excitement to the game. TC: NY allows you to customize the soundtrack to your liking; allowing you to play tracks you like and dislike can be taken off with relative ease. The sound effects aren't up to par, but that's quickly negated by the game play of the game. Overall, the sound effects are decent, but nothing too exciting or exhilarating. The sound is good for the car engines, the gunshots, the cars blowing up, the people cursing at you for just driving on the road...that kind of stuff.
The sound is like your typical GTA and with lots of variety in voices along the street.
Overall: a good game, but if you’re a good gamer you can complete the main story in a few hours. Still, there is a lot to do when it is completed. When you have 100% completion it will unlock a mini game (Redman Gone Wild) I think. You just shoot your way to the goal that is ages away. If you are into GTA you might like this game, or if you are looking or a good action game this might be it. This game is a very basic very simple gunslinger/advanced fighting/driving game that’s always usually worth playing. The game has fun story missions, fun side missions, decent audio, good controls, and is overall entertaining.

A Perfect Game For Serious Gamers
PostedMarch 11, 2011
If you play videogames all the time, love games such as Grand Theft Auto or the original True Crime, you won't be disappointed. This game is challenging, fun, and original. Who wouldn't want to be a under-cover cop for a day? Without getting cussed-out or shot at...
