This game is perfect for: casual gamers
I picked up the game when i went to a local gamestop with just 7 dollars. it was pretty cheap and well you get what you pay for. Its no Call of duty but it does get your attention. there are speaking parts which kind of bore me as do the characters. The game play is alright and you get use to it after a while. I would recommend this if you're low on cash and want a new game it gets sort of addictive after a while believe it or not .

This is a sci fi take on the cover based third person shooter that has a great story. The graphics of the game hold up well for being so old and playing the game co-op is the best way to experience it.

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
I just recently got back into playing Xbox again, and this was one of the first games I picked up at Gamestop. I had played a little bit of Gears before, but this game blew me away. Even for 2013 the graphics are still pretty good, and the combat system is really remarkable. The game is challenging enough to keep anyone interested. I've already bought GOW2 and 3 and plan on playing them soon!

This game is perfect for: casual gamers
Unbelievable game, got it when it first came out and I still enjoy it big time. If you haven't played it yet and enjoy third person shooters (TPS) then you definately have to snag this one. At 19.99 for the first one new or 2.99 used, or just get the combo of one and two with all the dlc for it in the double pack for 29.99 new either way it's a great deal. Go pick it up and enjoy the chainsawin fun and alien warfare!!

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
ever since this game came out I have loved the gears of war series. this game obviously isn't as good as gears 2 and 3 (mainly because of horde). but like it says in the title it was good for its time. a solid campaign, different than call of duty and especially, heads flying off. now you don't need to play this game to play the second and third but I would recommend it because some of the dialogue in 2 links to this game. This game also has good lasting appeal, so definitely a game worth getting

Gears of war 1 is a okay games just has a few bad things. 1 the berserker can kill you in one hit. 2 if you get shot or hit enough you just die automatically he does not fall on the ground and crawl. I am not saying it is the worst game ever it just has a few bad things. If you want this game just be aware of those things when you play.

Gears of War was 100% one of the best games if have ever purchased and played in my entire life. It was a little gory for my taste, but the gameplay was SUPERB!!! The "monsters" in this game were very well created, and played out through the entire game. The weapons in any shooter have to be extremely well created, and Gears of War went way past the point of extreme in this game. I never thought I would find another amazing storyline like Halo, but Gears of War is definentley up there, when it comes to AMAZING storylines. Overall this game was 100% incredible. If you ever happen to come across it in Gamestop, pick this game up.

This game is great, I play it with my friends all the time. The controls are really easy to get used to, and you can't get bored of this game quickly. This is one of those classic games like Halo 3 or Minecraft that everyone loves. If you like FPS games and lots of violence with an edge of horrific suspense you will love this game.

When Gears of War came out it was a really big deal.... it's atmosphere and cover-based combat was considered near-revolutionary and it sold a bijillion copies (yes, a bijillion, look it up). I picked it up not too long ago (I usually wait 'til games are nice and cheap before I pick them up.... why pay $60 for one game when you can pay $60 for 4 or 5?) and was decently impressed despite its age.
The graphics hold up quite well and the music/sound effects are top notch. The gameplay itself is still quite nice; it makes for a fun split-screen co-op game and the campaign has good length and variety. One thing that brings this game down from true greatness is the relative lack of weapons. You have a couple of assault rifles, a shotgun, sniper rifle, and 2 handguns. (oh yeah, and a bow/arrow set.). I might have missed one or two but this list is a little underwhelming. For some this might not be a big deal but I thrive on variety and the lack of weapons kinda puts a damper on the whole experience. I didn't play much multiplayer but with Gears 2 and 3 already out I'd imagine that much of the multiplayer community has moved on to the newer games.
Gears of War is an above-average action/3rd-person-shooter that does a lot of things very well. It is a modern classic to many and for it's sub-$10 pricetag it'll fit in any gamer's shelf nicely and is fun to take for a spin every so often.
