This is by far the best game on PS2 I have ever had. The graphics are astonishingly smooth for its time, in fact its the best looking PS2 game I've ever played, next to Heroes of the Pacific. The puzzles are quite challenging, some children would have severe trouble later in the game, some even early in the game (ex. clog duty). The game is completely free roam, almost like Fallout- minus the guns. No matter who you are, this game has something to make everybody happy.

A Game For Everyone!!
PostedJune 1, 2012
I think I like this game is because it appeals to people who like Neopets and those who don't. For the people who like Neopets, they can relate all the characters and the places to those on the site. For those who don't you can just look at the cute little animals and places just like you would on any RPG. No prejudice needed. I personally liked all the different places and the petpets. I spent most of my time feeding petets, esploring lands, and playing minigames. The plot and the characters may seem little bit cheesy. Tor is a lupe and gets kind of cocky but you probably would to if you had a chance to become a knight. Roberta may seem like a brat and very disobediant but she is at least a hard worker since she is training for magic which is forbidden for her. I think this is a great game and I highly recommend it, but if you are looking for a game with a good plot than this isn't the game for you.

Know What You're Getting Before You Invest

I would like to point out, before I begin, that this game IS based on Neopets. If you do not know what a Neopet is, just think of them as cute magical creatures (exactly what they are).
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie is a very good game for many reasons, the main one being that it can appeal to any age. Just enough difficulty to make veteran gamers smile, and easy enough for children to enjoy. With a few jokes for an older audience (not explicit, more similar to a "it will go over your head" sort of thing) and saturated colours to keep you in love with the environment, you will find yourself twisting down an interesting road as the adventure opens up.
Note that this game is NOT going to please everyone. If you're looking for gore or leveling up, prepare to be sorely disappointed. When an enemy is taken down they disappear, and leveling up is only gone through with weapon and armour changes, and using different "rare" magick is the only upgrade you'll receive in that department. You cannot steal from anyone, and while I haven't playing in long enough to tell you, I'm fairly certain that you cannot attack any NPCs either. There are plenty of mini plots, enemies, and items to keep your interest, however.
The free roaming world can be fun, but you'll find that there isn't much to explore with this game, once you've seen it all, you've usually seen it all. There is however, one majour thing that will stand out to RPG fans, in this game the dungeon crawling is back with a vengeance, and I mean this literally. You can appreciate running about underneath the castle looking for goodies while trying to fight your way to the big bad boss.
The characters may seem a bit transparent, but after awhile their traits grow on you; Bianca may seem bossy or cranky, but she's an important member of her society and is practising magick as she isn't supposed to. Tor may come across as overly noble, almost like a white knight that is as gallant as he is thick, but you truly see he has the classic "heart of gold" behind his chest plate and shield. Even the rulers of the kingdoms you will adventure in may seem ridiculous, or over the top, but hey, it's a kid's game, and they provide Perfect comic relief.
The music, gameplay, and graphics all earned a 6.5 point tally. You will either enjoy this game with it's side quests and cute sub plots (as well as the lovable history of rogues, witches, and Werewolf (lupe) Kings, or you will immediately be unimpressed with your purchase and try to pawn it off on a younger sibling.
Over all, I've given this game a 7 point rating, 5+ for appeal (since it IS a fifty-fifty chance you will ever play this after picking it up for the first time), 1+ for what I believe is a good plot (compared to the swill we drill out now anyway, this is actually a bit more original), and 1+ because I actually enjoy it enough that I would play it for fun, not just to pass time.

My first ps2 Game
PostedMarch 21, 2012
I got this game when I was about 11. A friend of mine had this and i thought it looked fun. the storyline is very typical and a little cheesy, but for gamers between the ages of 10-14 this is a good start in the world of RPG's. the cutscene graphics are nothing special but certainly not bad, rather smooth, in fact.the basic gameplay is rather simple, but the Mots are a nice add to give you that elmental advantage. What i truly like about this game is all the sidequest and the amount of areas to be explored. actually i don't think i have played another game that had this many optional areas. And it's not all for nothing, there are plenty of teasures to be found. the game is decently long, it took about a month, playing about everyday. Looking back I don't even think I found every treasure or did all the sidequest! this game does not deserve all the hate it recieves. However this game is'nt really for longtime or hard core gamers. but is excellent for kids in thier tweens or early teens, it provides enough challenge and exploration without being too hard.
