What Mario Kart wanted to be.
PostedMarch 26, 2012
This game is simply epic. It's Jak and Daxter's classic racing only with more guns, challenge and more everything but the kitchen sink. Mario Kart 7 is awesome but just like all Mario Karts it pales in comparison to Jak X.

Virtually Unbeatable

As a big fan of the Jak and Daxter franchise, when I stumbled upon Jak X at the store I was thrilled. Just the thought of a new game starring my favorite duo was enough to warrant a purchase. Well it's been seven years and I have still yet to beat this game. Now normally I would blame myself for sucking at a game or rage quitting, but when I started the game up again, I quickly learned why I stopped playing this game in the first place: the game crashes all the time.
Now, I don't know if it is just me having awful luck or genuine poor design, but whenever I get to a save point, the game crashes, and I am stuck at a never-ending save point. To make matters worse, whenever I would restart my PS2 to try again, the data corrupts itself. Now I have heard of ways to counter this, which I am 100% willing to try, but when I try to start a new file, I run into another problem, the game won't create a new file. I have checked my memory card time and time again (makes me love hard drives so much more) and I have the perfect amount of space needed to create a new file, but the game thinks differently.
As for the game play itself, its really good. The graphics have never looked better, the writing is still top notch, the characters are likable and the racing is fun and challenging.
If it weren't for the game-ending bugs (or just my luck), this game would stand alongside the excellent trilogy of games that came before it, but as it stands, Jak X is just another racing game, only with more bugs.
