Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented

Taking the popular Japanese Horror theme to a whole new terrifying level, Fatal Frame III: The Tormented is a complete Japanese Horror interactive experience as the player takes on the role of Rei, a cursed young woman whose overwhelming guilt and tormented dreams lead her into a formidable world where the lines between reality and nightmares are blurred and the only way out is to solve the mystery of the tattoo. What the player will see in Rei's dreams is only the beginning of the nightmare, making Fatal Frame III: The Tormented the most terrifying virtual experience to date.

This game was awesome! I've been a fan of fatal frame since the first game came out and this installment doesn't disappoint! The controls were good, just like the first two games, only the button to access your camera is now triangle instead of circle, which kind of threw me off for a few minutes but it's pretty easy to get used to. The sound and graphics were fantastic, they were probably the best in this whole series. The storyline is very deep and manages to connect events from both the first and second game, both in files you pick up and actual playing characters(you can play as Miku again!) The game took me about two days to beat, but that's because i rushed through it. The levels have some length to them as the game is divided into nights. Inside each night you can be awake and develop pictures in the darkroom and further some plot devices or you can fall asleep and actually 'play' the game. The only real problem i had with this game was the amount of backtracking. Since the entire game takes place in one giant manor, you end up seeing the same places repeatedly. And once you start messing with the candles, it can get somewhat annoying because the candles are only in certain rooms and if your candle goes out, it can pretty much lead to death. Overall, it's a fantastic game, with a very detailed plotline that should be checked out.

I have played many a survival horror genre game, and if you are looking for one that can inspire rapid heartbeat and sleeping with the light on-look no further! Fatal Frame III uses all of the elements of the prior games-spooky atmosphere, creepy sound effects and surprise techniques to make it one amazing experience. Former players of the series will appreciate the return of characters from the first and second game, and locations that still make your skin crawl just remembering what happened there the first time around. While the backtracking did get somewhat bothersome at times, it did not detract from the overall gameplay or storyline, which flows very nicely and sequentially, so you are not left jumping through hoops to understand what's going on. The designers even had the idea to throw in a couple surprises that help make you even more terrified. You can also pick this game up as a first time player and not have too much difficulty getting into it. Overall, I'd said it's probably one of my favorite games of all time. Oh, and be careful not to throw your controller without pausing first. ^.^

This game is horrifying, and remains one of my favorite games of all time. It's so frightening! I got stuck, and I actually haven't completed this one yet ad I've had for a while, but I plan on playing it again soon! The entire fatal frame series is amazing and you can't go wrong getting this.

The beginning is amazing and the journey to the end is suspenceful and well writen. One ending will leave you feeling greatly happy while the other will sadden you and leave you with questions about the other characters. This game has alot of good scares. A great game to play in the dark.

Like the "Review Summary," there were more pop-ups and scenes with spirits/ghosts/etc. in this game than the two before this one. I gave a low sound rating because there was basically no sound, only a kind of creepy wind sounding noise (not affecting my overall score)...
The story... is basically the same as first Fatal Frame... love and taboo... I was expecting some scary...
The gameplay is exactly like the other two—camera, aim, wait, shoot, dead. Though, because of bad translations between Japanese and English, it was hard to understand some of the camera functions that you get as the game progresses—I did not know how to use the specials and etc., I just click X to shoot... Doors are still saviors of time for random spirits. Because the game transitions between the main characters and because it scene changes from the house to the mansion, the items reset so you can go to the same place you found a herbal medicine the next time you go back to the mansion. Some of the spirits are hard to kill because, either they move too fast or hitting at the critical time is hard to do.
The graphics are... PS2... (Watch the videos for a better look)
Overall, the game is similar to the other two before... just that it was not as hard as the first one and not as easy as the second one. The girls and scene from the other two are in this game as well, suggesting that there is a connection between all three games. Only one part freaked me out which was the Crawling Woman (I believe that is what they were called). I do like the peek-holes and the item resetting. Not much different ghosts, just some little girl, old men, and a tattoo-ed lady that walks around... I would not say that Fatal Frame is scary but it does a good job at attempting. I did not finish the game—because my analogue would always turn off only at the boss (which is kind of weird)—but I most likely know what is going to happen at the end. I gave it a seven because there was not much of a difference in the story compared to the previous games...
If you want more scary games (minus the spirits), try the Penumbra Collection or zombie games (the ones with running zombies).
