Killzone Beats Halo!
PostedOctober 24, 2010
I got this game after downloading the demo. If you think the demo is good. Then the game is amazing. The graphics are out of this world. This game beats halo, Bar None!!! The storyline is amazing. After you play it once you won't want to stop!!!! And especially the lowest price being at a rock bottom 25 dollars. This game is a complete steal!!! Definitely buy!!!

Best PS3 Shooter
PostedOctober 10, 2010
The original Killzone was in of itself, a good game, but it had the horrible luck of being deemed a "Halo" killer, and in that sense, the game failed. It portrayed a gritty war zone that felt realistic but did not have anything unique to the game. It wasn't a great game, but it was a decent shooter for it's time.
However, its sequel, Killzone 2, is such a phenomenal step forward for the franchise that it is just unbelievable. Being that the game was in development for over 4 years, the game has an enormous amount of production value, with impressive detail in the graphics in just about every screen of the game. It not only proves what the PS3 is capable of doing in terms of graphics, but it is a big step forward for what FPS games should have, in their multiplayer at least.
The single player campaign is rather hit-or-miss. It starts off fairly well, but quickly becomes a tedious, repetitive series of firefights that don't have anything different about them at all. What I mean is that the game lacks variety, in both game play and in color. The entire campaign is either grey or brown, unlike the variety of colors in other FPS games like Halo or Call of Duty. While everything looks very good, it would be nice for some variety in the environment.
The game play of Killzone 2 is the best part of the game. It is more realistic and the guns have a noticeable kickback which add to the realistic feel. Their is a cover system in the game that may be one of the best cover systems I have seen in a game. When you stick to the surface that you are hiding behind, you can't see what is on the other side, feeling much like in real life, as a result, you have to poke your head out and fire a couple shots before getting hit yourself. The melee combat isn't very intuitive, but that doesn't matter because you wouldn't want to charge towards an enemy with a rifle pointed right at you.
So, back to the the single player campaign, after a relatively good start, the game quickly loses it's edge and the Helghast never change, so your constantly shooting the same guy over, and over, and over again. It's not bad, but there should be a variety of enemies, because there are about only 2 different types of enemies. The twists and turns in the story aren't very surprising because the actual twists themselves aren't very dramatic and felt forced. The characters in the game are cardboard cut outs to the extent where the character itself is a cliche. Rico in particular is the worst, he constantly utters swear words and his impulsive actions caused so many problems that I wanted him to die instead of other characters (names hidden to avoid spoilers).
So the campaign is a bit of a disappointment, but the multiplayer is so good, it's almost inconceivable. The game has different game types, however, the best game type is Warzone. It has a series of different game types, ranging from team deathmatch, to capture the flag, etc. This keeps the game interesting and is what gives it an edge over other shooters on the market. That being said, the game lacks balance, as a single bullet from a sniper rifle will take you down, and most of the time, I see someone suicide bombing with the rocket launcher, something which to my knowledge, has not been patched.
In short, Killzone 2 is a great step forward for the franchise, and it puts itself as a game Sony can hold over Microsoft and Nintendo's head. It's a great shooter with some faults here and there, mostly in the campaign, but the game's multiplayer is enough to warrant a strong recommendation to any PS3 owner.
