This game is terrible.
PostedJune 11, 2009
First off I just wanna say that the campaign mode on this game was really fun. Then comes online gaming. I began to like the online play and really got into it and even joined a clan. The controls were not very responsive until the new update for this game came out. This is when it all went down hill from there. The new update for Killzone 2 messed up the game in many ways. Before the update players had a type of juggernaut for about three seconds when they spawned out of spawn grenades, now its changed alot. Players do not get that three second juggernaut. You automatically take damage when you spawn. Every campers dream. People camp at spawns and wait for you. Oh and what makes me mad is they even put C4 on spawn grenades so you automatically die when you spawn. Im sad to say that I will never play this game ever again unless it is fixed. Also, this game is too messy. Too many players in one little room with grenades, RPGs, etc. sounds fun. Not really when you die every second. This game is too crazy im thinking about trading it in for the purchase of Modern Warfare 2 which comes out in November. Forget Killzone 2, play COD4 and then MW2.

Best game right now!

No one could have suspected that the sequel to 2004's Killzone would be this good. Killzone 2 is a tremendous package, offering an exciting campaign and terrific competitive online play, neither of which create new paradigms for first-person shooters, but rather set new standards in subtle but significant ways. From groundbreaking visuals to well-crafted multiplayer maps, most of Killzone 2's individual elements stand out in a crowded genre, making its meager attempts at storytelling easy to ignore. PlayStation 3 owners looking for a shooter to keep them busy for the rest of 2009 and beyond need look no further: The fierce action will keep you glued to your television screen for some time to come. What makes Killzone 2's single-player campaign so much fun? First and foremost, the weapons are a lot of fun to shoot, even the standard assault rifles that form the core of your loadout. The M82's effective scope makes zooming in on your target a breeze, yet this rifle is effective at close range as well, establishing itself from the beginning as a formidable firearm. The LS13 shotgun is also powerful and rewarding to fire; though you may only shoot off a foe's helmet with other weapons, you'll watch entire heads explode with a single blast from this close-range powerhouse. The bolt gun is another favorite, skewering enemy soldiers onto surfaces and exploding a short moment later. Though you're traversing a sci-fi setting, your weapons are decidedly modern-day, from the sniper rifle to the vicious flamethrower, with one exception: the lightning gun. This mighty instrument showers enemies with overpowering jolts of electricity, and though it's not available for long, it makes short work of robotic and humanoid foes. Each of these weapons feels just right; fantastic spurts of blood, outstanding animations, exquisitely detailed weapon models, and explosive sound effects fuse seamlessly and give a satisfying sense of impact every time you land a shot.

What's the Hype?

So.. I was looking for a great PS3 game to buy, seeing as my PS3 just sits there and I own no good games. I hear about Killzone2 being the best game EVER for the PS3 so I go out and get it. Don't get me wrong, it has very good graphics and all, but it starts getting really old. I never played the original Killzone, so when I start Killzone2 it's your average kill all the aliens story line. The BIG problem is that it is so repetitive. The same old stuff keeps happening over and over. 'Quick, get to the bunker!!!' 'OH [BLEEP]!!' 'Take 'em down!!!'... That's pretty much the same thing you'll hear over and over.. While killing the same looking guys with red eyes over and over. There is no way to compare this to Halo or other games.. Halo actually had a great story line, while in this one I keep finding myself going to save some other troops while taking out a bunch of red eyes to get there. Not to mention the whole lot of yelling and cursing. Also the controls are a bit weird, but I hear a lot of PS3 games are like that. I give it an 8 just because of the great graphics and all.. Who knows maybe it's a lot better online.

Good, but I don't see the hype

This game was good at really displaying the "chaos of war". But almost a bit too much. There were a few hitches in the game, such as a dysfunctional cover system (which didn't exactly seem original given that Gears of War had a similar cover system in 3rd person). This occurred as I was playing both through the single player and multi-player, where I would take on fire and could not take cover against a clearly defined object right in front of me. Another thing is that your friendly AI is not all that intelligent for what others say it is. Your friendly AI has a tendency to get in some tight situations, such as running-and-gunning until they were downed in the Middle of the fire-fight, after which you would have to go over and resuscitate him (which Also seemed unoriginal due to Gears of War). Finally, some of the weapons were straight up lacking. The resuscitate beam used to revive friends looks like something out of a low-grade sci-fi film, and the flame thrower is painful to watch. Single player campaign is something that should be saved for an after-multiplayer experience. The storyline is much like Gears of War 2 (besides the enemy being on another planet). Something that began to bug me as I was playing single player was... you're remarkably short. Enemies could melee your head and pretty much kill you, even though you've melee'd them 12 times in the gut. Oh well; you have a knife. The controls, for other first-person shooter fanatics, should be changed/reviewed before you play the game. Seriously. You will get frustrated when you attempt these controls without an instruction manual. These things aside, however, multiplayer is a greater investment of time than some of the other first-person shooters I've played. The ranking system is well-planned out, as well as a fair amount of customization. Multiplayer is much better played with friends than the AI (as explained above).Overall, Killzone 2 has caught my attention as a step-up from the average 1st-Person Shooter. Though, this is No Call of Duty 4. However, it does supply enough action for any casual/intermediate shooter fanatic to enjoy. Now, I'm pretty strict to some when it comes to giving games ratings. But I'd have to give Killzone 2 a 7.5 out of 10.
