SPORE stripped down beyond recognition
PostedOctober 12, 2008
Okay. You are either going to love this game or hate it. The game has been dumbed down/watered down to the extreme. The only challenge (up until the space stage) is trying to find all the parts, avoid getting squished by epic creatures and trying to resist the urge to punch your screen after you spend hours designing a really cool looking land combat vehicle only to find out that the visual effect of it shooting is the exact same as if you had just put any gun on a box with wheels. The speed, health and firepower all vary, but it doesn't matter if you have 50 in firepower or 5, it is all about instant building of units. So if you have enough money (which is easy to come by) you just build, build, build, attack. Very lame.Space is punctuated by pirates attacking your worlds every 5 minutes or so. I had the super gun and it got destroyed and my cities leveled. Yes I was playing on easy. This game could have been so much more, but for some reason got stripped of so much content, and there are next to no options to select if you want pirates to attack (or how often). I could go on and on, but I got this game the first day it came out. I played it for about a week, restarted it three times during that time, and never played more than 8 hours into the space stage as it lost any resemblance of being fun or enjoyable. Don't buy it if you don't want to waste the money.

Fun Game...Not Worth $*****
PostedOctober 2, 2008
This game is fun! It is taking a lot of crap about the DRM issue, but I have had NO problems with that personally. Some people on other websites are even trying to boycott it for the DRM. That being said, the first stage is in the water and you swim around and try to eat your way up in the food chain and evolve into a land creature. When you do get on land, which is the second stage, you either make allies or kill other species, it's easier to just kill them. I could never make them happy. You also go around and try to find new body parts so you can upgrade your creature. The body parts are glowing and they look like skeletons on the ground. The third stage you become a tribe and you again either make allies or conquer other tribes. It's easier just to conquer them! The fourth stage you become a village you do the same as w/ the third stage, make allies or conquer. For the fifth stage, you are in space, and I can't even describe how big space is, it really is endless. You do missions from your planet and you help other planets out by doing missions for them. The space stage is the hardest and the most frustrating, this is my least favorite stage because it is more complicated and I even have it set on easy! You try to build colonies on other planets and you either again conquer other planets or make allies w/ them. It is hours and hours of gameplay on just the space stage itself, I have heard some were into 100 hours of gameplay in this last stage and still not close to the end of the game! WOW! The reason I said it's not worth $***** is because the game is very restrictive with its DRM issue. You only have 3 installs, you can install this game onto 3 PCs if you like, you HAVE to authenticate it the first time on every PC you install it on once you start up the game to play, so you have to have Internet connection for that. This game does allow for more than one player to save a game on it. I counted 8 slots, when you start up the game and your at the main menu you will see a galaxy, there are 8 stars, each star is a "new" game file where you can start a new game and save your progress as you go along. So my kids each have their own saved game even though they share a computer. Once you use up the 3 installs there are no more left, so if you make big hard drive changes like a new hard drive or you reinstall Windows after a PC crash if you don't have any installs left you can't play the game on that PC anymore. You have to go through EA to get permission for more installs and that, they say, is a case by case decision if they will allow more installs. I would say this game is worth around $***** or at the most $***** but not $*****, wait till it goes down in price and all the bugs are out of it! I would have kicked myself in the butt if I bought this for $***** but thank goodness I didn't, I got mine used with some installations left on it!

Create and Destroy (both very fun)
PostedSeptember 27, 2008
This is my favorite game BY FAR! But I'll admit, it's not the best. The controls are all right, sometimes you might push a mouse button by accident and the camera will shift to the other side of the world, or universe depending on what stage you are at. Other than that, the controls are great. The sound isn't stuff of legend, nor crap, just good. Vivid sound at first but receptive after a while. Excellent graphics, even on the low setting, which I would recommend for most people without an awesome video card because it lags bad on high. Also, you will need to exit out of other applications or it will effect gameplay. As for realism, got nothing to say about it, only that its got little to do with what would really happen in a creatures evolution. The gameplay is awesome though! It's a bit inconsistent but there's so much to do, so much to see. You will probably love this game if you have a creative imagination. But if you really want to enjoy this game, you will have to be willing to spend a lot of time creating and evolving. Rushing through is not a good idea as you will get bored quickly, just take your time enjoying it and getting your creature or tank or whatever to however you want it. I spent a half hour designing my boat to look like a coast guard ship, another half hour making my tank a bulldozer with guns, and god knows how long making my B2! If you want it just to be able to conquerer and not for the creativity, this isn't for you, nor if you want it just to be able to create things. If its just creating you crave, get the Spore Creature Creator. Heres the rating I would give each evolutionary stage (1-10, 10 being perfect), followed by a short summary: Cell: 9.1 You swim around eating either other creatures or plants, depending on whether you choose to be a mean carnivore or wimpy vegetarian. Grow bigger and bigger and trick out your creation, until you get what you want. Creature: 9.0 Evolve your creature on land while eating or befriending other species. Tribe: 8.2 You now control multiple units to befriend or destroy (like a larger version of creature stage). Also, you should note that you no longer have the ability to advance your creature as far as body parts and functionality. You can still change your colors, and as an added bonus you now dress your creature, configure your base camp, and use weapons! Civilization: 9.5 Obviously the most fun, in this stage you conquer the world by religious, economical, or military means. WARNING: Destroying the world by nuclear weaponry and your military units will make everyone else hate you so you had better choose your path: offering flowers and love or blasting them to smithereens! Space: 7.5 Okay so the space stage isn't all that great because it's really complicated. The objective is take over the galaxy and beyond and thats pretty much it. For the people who complain about bio-disasters and pirate raids, you have to realize that every 10 minutes is about 100 million years! Don't worry to much about though as it isn't supposed to be easy. I heard playing to the end unlocks a reward but I'm not exactly sure what. This is a great game that I would recommend to anyone that has a good enough computer and likes killing(fun) or making friends with(boring). Remember that you have to be dedicated to it to win and have fun. I hope this review was helpful to you and thanks for reading!

Game is Great/addicting
PostedSeptember 27, 2008
I played this game the day it came out, and I loved it. As someone else previously stated, the only people who don't like this game are people with no creativity. Sure the DRM policy is stupid, but hey I think it's worth it. I also think something that helped me enjoy it though, was the fact I wasn't driven crazy for the three years it was supposed to come out or so, was because I didn't even hear about this game until the day it came out, but it is awesome. A lot of the commercials and videos make it look like it's for little kids, but it's not like that at all. I think people of all ages would enjoy this game. I have already made two accounts on my game, because the first one, which is in space stage, is so huge. There a thousands of stars to go to(No Joke) and they all have planets in their system, sometimes six or seven per star. This is obvious proof of the unlimited vastness of this game.
