World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions

World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions takes a story-based approach, putting players on the Pro Circuit as a new pro and protege of Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Players test their skills at the premier Circuit Events in hopes of qualifying for the winner-take-all, invitation-only Tournament of Champions at the Rio Resort in Las Vegas. Along the way, they face-off against more top pros than ever before, including Joseph Hachem, the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, and Jennifer Tilly, the Academy Award-nominated actress and World Series of Poker bracelet holder, among others in hopes of bringing home the Tournament of Champions trophy.

Career mode in WSOP: TOC has only Texas Hold 'Em. If this is your best, and/or the only variety of poker you know, then it could be your game. However, if you're the type who prefers some or all of the other choices of HORSE (Hold 'Em, Omaha, Razz, Stud, Eight or Better), then your only choice to play these varieties is outside of career mode, either in quickplay or tournament (neither of which offers rewards for progress). The lack of poker varieties in career mode make it repetitive. You have to earn a certain amount of points during circuit events within four different locations to finally unlock the "Tournament of Champions", which is, again, the dreaded Texas Hold 'Em. The ONLY variety in the game is to choose either Limit, Pot Limit, or No Limit. In reality, the WSOP and its circuit events is all types of HORSE varieties. The one thing that Activison got right is the licensing of characters. Also, the animated cutscenes require their own loading period, and are done poorly.
