One of the worst ports of all time.
PostedFebruary 21, 2012
No matter what you say, there is no hiding the fact that Sonic Genesis on the GBA is one of the worst ports of any game of all time. People think that this is 100% the exact same game as the original on the Genesis. NO IT IS NOT. Yes, the level designs are the same, but it isn't the same game since it isn't on the same system. There are too many problems with this game that people seem to overlook, it isn't the same game that was on the Genesis. It's a port of a game. A "port" of a game is when an old game is brought to a different console in an attempt to revive the classic games on new systems. This game failed MISERABLY, and did not come even remotely close to living up to the fan demand and just made us even angrier after Sonic 2006. Let's get into the nitty-gritty with what this games problems are. First off, the camera is zoomed in WAY too close to Sonic. This makes making specific jumps too difficult. Second, there is TOO MUCH SLOWDOWN. The game hauls like an old woman pulling a Boeing 747, it's slow beyond belief. Not only that, but the game is too glitchy. Sometimes, you will clip through the floor and fall to your death in a nonexistant bottomless pit, and other times, enemies will kill you without even touching you. Also, this game has some SERIOUS physics issues. You can jump up and hit bosses in a way that you couldn't before in the classic games. Honestly, this game has too many problems to list, and there is a reason I traded in my original cartridge to begin with. This game is a perfect example of "Genesis Does what NintenDON'T".

Sonic the Hedgehog is a great game. All the reviewers seem to hate this game though. Now I do agree with the reviewers about the bad frame rate, and there is a bugginess in the game, but can't you look passed that. I mean come on, you're playing Sonic the Hedgehog in the palm of your hand. This game is great. Most of the songs are awesome! The level layout is great, and you can run at the speed of sound. The bosses are actully harder at the beginning then the end, but they are quite enjoyable. Although I hate that water level and there isn't much replay value. There are two endings depending if you get the six Chaos Emeralds or not. It was the 16-bit generations, and most great platformer such as Super Mario World had alternate paths you could have taken. Regardless this is a great game, and if you want it you can get it on X Box Arcade, the Wii Shop Chanle Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collections.

This MADE the Genesis, and is back for the GBA!

I've read these reviews, and I can stand to see my blue friend being trashed. This game is great, fixing glitches that made the original a little annoying at times. The signature Spindash is also added as an optinal technique, which would make this easier for any kids wanting to play the classic game. I'm looking forward to Sonic Generations for 3DS, and the Classic Era is gonna make the game for me. And come on, sidescrolling action, a fat evil scientist, and one cool blue hedgehog? That is pure awesome coming from a true Sonic fan, only missing 3 main story games.

If you think this game is great, think again.

This game is horrible, and I can tell you why. First of all, fixed glitches? THERE MORE GLITCHES IN THIS GAME THAN THE ORIGINAL. And the spindash? Is that really all you had to say? Spindash and glitches? Now, here's whats bad about this game. The music, the frame rate, the zoom up, the glitches, ETC. Seriously, if you think this is anything but good, you're not a true sonic fan.

Way to knock all the fun out of the original.

The original Sonic for the Genesis stands as one of my favorite games ever. But, as promising as a portable Sonic sounds, this game sucks. The framerate is absolutely awful. I gave it a 6 in lasting appeal because of the bad taste it leaves in your mouth.
