Will not read discs
PostedDecember 27, 2015
Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my roommate since their ps2 broke and they wanted a backwards compatible ps3, when they went to set it up and insert a disc they system is refused it. The ps3 was also not wiped properly as it still had the old user information!

Best System in Gen 7
PostedAugust 28, 2015
You can't beat backwards compatibility even if you have the original systems because the PS1 and PS2 games just look better on the PS3, plain and simple. There's a few things the PS3 did right in the 7th generation of gaming and a few to list is 1) the built-in blu-ray player. It's something the other consoles of last gen (Xbox 360, Wii) didn't have. Because of the blu-ray compatibility it makes the DVD's you have look great and they make the game discs built to last. 2) Free online gaming. That's right, PSN is free so you don't need to pay to play with friends or others. But most importantly to me is 3) the first-party developed games. God of War, Uncharted, Sly Cooper, and Killzone are all fantastic games and a wide variety of genres, not to mention the other franchises I didn't list that were exclusive to the system that really added to the playing field. There's something for everyone with this system ranging from fighters, racing, first person shooters, third person shooters, platformers, just about everything you could feel like playing. It is important to note however if the selling point of the system to you is the backwards compatibility that its only available for the 20gb & 60gb models. The PS4 has been out awhile now as well, and if you haven't had a PS3 yet I suggest owning one before the PS4 as there are tons of great content already available to this system so there's no need to feel like you need to pre-order a game just to find out the game isn't as good as the ads made them look.

Partially Works
PostedAugust 3, 2015
I would have rated this a 10 but mine seems to have a hard drive issue. Any PS3 game that requires installation doesn't work, instead when I try to play them the PS3 shuts off and I get a blinking red light. The only PS3 game that works is COD WAW (which doesn't need to install). Blu-ray movies, DVDs, PS2, and Original PS games work fine though. I thought these are tested and guaranteed to work? I guess I'll take it back and wait another week for another one.

Good but only for certain people...
PostedMay 12, 2014
I bought this to be mainly my replacment ps2 with some ps3 features, it works great and can play all of my ps2 games asides from "genesis collection" without a issue. If ou plan on playing mainly ps3 games then I'd recomend buying the 60gb ps3 due to most games being 4-5gb's now and that will eat up your harddrive fast...
My advice is buy this if you plan on mainly playing ps2 games with a few ps3 games. Buy a 60gb if you plan on playing a lot of ps3 with alot of ps2 games. Buy a 80gb 4-port if you mainly will play ps3 games (80's don't play ps2 aswell as 20/60's) or buy a new ps3 super slim if you only want to play ps3 games due to the fact these have some serious overheating issues that the newer models don't have.
