Almost as if this was planned before FFVII in '97
PostedApril 1, 2011
Contains spoilers: If you own a PSP, you must own this game. I honestly only pick up my PSP for this game, KH BBS and MGS Peace Walker. This is a must have for any FFVII fan; even if you're not too crazy about the battle system, the story and how it fleshes out the plot of FFVII is worth buying the game. **spoilers** What I think some people don't remember(it has been quite a while since I played FFVII myself) is Cloud thought he was Zack for nearly 80% of FFVII, even though Zack himself only appeared briefly in the original game. In Crisis Core you basically see the main parts(mostly in the latter half of the game) of Cloud's past in FFVII only how it really happened; it being actually Zack's life and how he and Cloud developed a special bond, enough that Cloud would take over his persona altogether. The 'extra' characters such as Angeal and Genesis are still relevant because they help develop Zack's character and keep Crisis Core from trying too be too much like the original. Even though FFVII gamers can kind of guess the ending, the game still keeps you on the edge of your seat and has enough twists to make you wonder how it'll tie up all the loose ends, especially since all of the 'enemies'(The Turks, Sephiroth, Shinra) in FFVII all seem good at first. I think this also explains why people like Zack or Cloud would even be involved with such characters/associations to begin with. Crisis Core also gives a big background of Aerith's relationship with Zack. But enough with the plot.** You will either love or hate the battle system; the random DMW boosts/scenes keep battles interesting but gamers who like to have a set strategy will want to pull their hair out. The battles can be frequent but you can avoid them by walking near the edges/walls of paths, they only really start if you walk in the middle of an open area. Leveling up may seem random but there is an invisible EXP counter; if you keep battling you'll level up, obviously. The game itself can be beaten rather quickly without much need for training, but the endless amount of missions can keep you busy for days. The major flaw of this game is it does not explain materia fusion enough, that getting to level 100 doesn't give you much of an advantage if you don't max out the stats of your materia. It is also a rather complex system, I would recommend those who're really stuck to consult a guide online. I like materia fusion system though because you have the option to make materia incredibly powerful, especially useful when you finally get the break damage limit accessory. I think the missions don't have much of an appeal because they don't really supplement the plotline; I've beaten 55% of the missions already and the only ones that are really interesting are the few that involve Yuffie. I think missions/sidequests would have benefited greatly if they had more of an impact on the plot. Those who want a challenge will enjoy the missions though because they get ridiculously difficult; IMO some of the ones toward the end are nearly impossible. The music is 3/4 the same as FFVII but they're redone so beautifully that the soundtrack is worth buying as well. The graphics are amazing and the best I've ever seen on the PSP, the cutscenes so beautiful you'd want to rewatch them rather than skip them. It's enough to make me wish Square would remake FFVII. I wouldn't say this game has much replay value persay but there's a lot for you to do the first time around. It's still an awesome game, and basically the only spinoff worth playing. Buy this if you haven't already, especially since it's only like $9.

This is a top 5 game for the PSP and has ruined all other Action RPGs for me. I was happy paying full price, now that it has dropped it is a steal.

I LOVE IT!!!

I got this game being a fan of kingdom hearts and though they are very different this is still one of my favorite games. I love how whenever I see a character that appeared in KH i go, "Cloud" or "Aerith" or "Sephiroth." I also love how instead of having to go backsomewhere in the game to level up, there are missions at save points. I reccommend you get this!!

Amazing and leaves you wanting more

Lets first go over what I didn't like about this game. The music when you enter a fight is not diverse enough. Also the roulette for the special summons is a little annoying. Would rather be able to control which one you activate. Other than that the game was a excellent addition to the final fantasy franchise. The story was excellent, music was great, interesting enemies. Final Fantasy Crisis Core is a emotional roller coaster that makes you want to pick up a copy of Final Fantasy VII to continue the story.
