I have been a spyro fan for most of my life, I've played it since I was 4. Anywhoom, Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is the third game in the new begining series. The Animation is exelent for the most par is exelent, but there is one scene (on top the wall in the dragon city) where the backgroud was terrorable =P I mean honestly, it looked like simething out of an NES concil. other than that slight draw back the grafics score high. The music in this game is of the best I heard in many years of gaming. I do fell that the length is a bit short. I am capable of beating it in under 6 hours with the aid of cheatcodes. Ywt with out the cheat codes it provides a truly chalenging game with non stop elite enimies. If you have played other game in the spyro new begining series the plot will make more sence than those of youwho don't play spyro regulary. In conclution, I suggest this game for spyro fans and maybe a few opean minded gamers. Great game 8 stars ******** Peace

This game is perfect for: party gamers
As I said, try this game. If you don't like it you can return it within 7 days. Funny i didn't know about this, my gf mentioned it, and the cashier confirmed it. any who. This is a detailed breakdown review. If u want a simple “it’s good/it sucks” read other ones. I will keep spoilers out.
With that said, I played spyro back on PS1, good ole days back when I was a skinny kid with abbs. I can barely remember it as it was so long ago, but I do remember it was fun. This one is like all classics that are modernized. The game is much more difficult, much more fun, much more things to do, paths to chose, side paths to explore, but there’s also things that are worse. There are cinematics (in game videos). The problem is that the lines are a little bit cheesy/goofy, and the voice acting isn’t that great. To be fair, this is aimed at the younger gamers, and for them I’m sure they wouldn’t care. For an adult gamer, it is what it is. Is it enough to ruin the game? No, not by a long shot. It’s still a fun game.
The game mechanics, fighting, and moments where quick reactions are make or break, are great. For an experienced hardcore gamer that enjoys complex games, this one is still pretty good. On one hand I feel even younger gamers will eventually get the controls, mechanics, etc. On the other hands, they made one of the most basic mistakes. No compass, no in depth objective listing, no direction of where to go or what to do. For example. One mission has 3 different sub objectives to complete the first objective. In a cinematic they list the 3 sub ob’s, but don’t specify where it is. On one hand it gives the player a reason to “explore” but for the younger mind, with no sense of direction, they could end up searching the same area dozens of times before finally reaching the objective. Also, say they see the cinematic, then turn the game off for whatever reason. When they come back later, if they don’t remember the cinematic, they won’t know what to do. When you press the objectives menu, all it says is the main objective, nothing about the 3 sub objectives. Theres no companion reminding you of what to do (like some games) again no compass, no loading screen saying it, notta. So ultimately you either need a good memory, or you need to play the game and only stop between missions. Also, theres been a handful of occasions where they clearly say what to do, and once those things have been done it won’t work. One mission you need to get a raft on the river to ride it. My gf n I did everything explained. But the raft wouldn’t move. There was a side thing we had to do to get it to move, that the cinematic never explained, much less even mentioned. Took us almost an hour, seemed like days to figure it out.
The entire game is team based (can’t stress that enough) between spyro and some female dragon who I guess has a dark past (which slowly gets unraveled throughout the story.) Even in solo play, you work with her as an npc. Again I barely remember the old spyro, but I don’t remember her being in it. I would say she is a perfectly balanced side kick. Donkey kong for example, diddy is most players fav as he is more agile, in the new one he even flies. In this one the two teammates are perfectly balanced. Each has four spells. Spyros is fire, earth, lightening, ice. The others is I think fear, shadow, wind and… something else I forgot. They are different, but equal. Some special bosses require one specific element as the weekness, but once the spell is used they lose some enchantment, and then all elements and attacks work on them. Also spyro’s health levels up faster, but mana takes longer to level up. Where as hers is the opposite. Ultimately you both have roughly the same amount of speed/health as you level up together. Speed, agility, melee, and everything else is the same. Trust me they are balanced. The only real thing worth arguing is if you are a fan of a specific element (Pyromaniac means you likely prefer fire, gothic means maybe shadow I guess) or if you have a preference of character gender (boy vs girl) or if you prefer how they look. I think the female one actually looks cooler, Spyro kinda looks cheesy with giant cartoon eyes and the odd gold horns on a purple type body.
Co-op. This is what made me get this game. My Girlfriend isn’t into the bloody and complex games I’m into (not even racing games) and we wanted something to play together when we are out of energy. It is great with co op. I know some cases will say “1-2 players” in green aka same screen co op, but will ultimately be lying and be system link/online only. This one is indeed same screen. But it is not splitscreen. Let me explain the difference. Split screens is two player views on one tv/1 console/1 game copy. Same screen is one player view, with two players in it. What this means is that you must work as a team, or you will fail. There is no “oh I got this you just sit there”, you HAVE to be patient with your teammate, work with them, etc.
There excuse for going with Same screen rather then split screen is that there’s a leash on both dragons, and they are magically binded together. In other words they can’t part more then maybe 20 feet apart. If they do, it’s just a tug of war equally matched with no winner, both ultimately lose as it is boring. So parents note, if the kids playing this don’t get along. They will either learn to work as a team, or they will argue so much that you will want to chuck electronics across the room. The leash effect is actually an interesting concept, as there are several points where it is helpful. Example is one person can climb high, and another person can use the leash to swing like a vine, to a ledge far to the side of the first person. Sticking together is the main struggle. Even though my gf and I get along, we always try to get the camera in the right position for the other, it still gets frustrating. Sometimes the camera won’t spin around to what we are trying to view, sometimes one of us gets snagged on an odd ledge, bush, whatever, and we have to backtrack to get both of us forward, when climbing if one of us falls, we both have to backtrack and both ascend again and again until both of us get to the top at the same time. There’s plenty of climbing. Jumping from ledges, swinging to ledges, climbing vines on walls, etc. Yes it’s a dragon game, they can fly, but they mostly hover. As in fly a set amount of feet off the ground, say 10-20 feet. Where as some paths are 100’s of feet up, so you must fly from ledges, vines, etc etc etc. It’s still fun. It’s relatable to the modern Mario, but not near as hard.
Parents also note. This game is very appropriate for children. No blood of any kind, no n-u-d-i-t-y, no s-e-x-u-al references, no drugs, etc etc etc. It’s a good cartoon type action game. You set enemies on fire with the flame breath, but it’s not a “skin melting” type set on fire, it’s just a “they are outlined in flame”, nothing else. There’s clawing as a melee attack, no blood or anything comes out. As far as this goes, it’s appropriate for all ages, HOWEVER, due to how complex the game is, I think it should be for ages 10 and up. I doubt a 5 year old would grasp most of the concepts. Then again if it’s a 5 year old who does nothing but play games, maybe he/she would pick it up quickly.
For more serious gamers, The game isn’t that long, but it’s not as short as some other games. There aren’t side quests, but there are sub objectives. There are crystals you must find to level up, hidden chests that give your dragon armor, and hidden “elite bosses” which are always very strong, very difficult to defeat, but always pay off in armor (very rare, gives you character bonuses, and trust me they are well worth it.) There are achievements for the achievement hunters out there. Ultimately you will have fun playing it through the first time, maybe the second time. The fact that it’s couch co op gives it a longer tray life, but ultimately there’s not any “path choices” or “perk choices” or ways to ever play through the game different then any of the other times you played through it. So the 35$ used (at the time I’m writing this) is fair. The lower the price goes, the more it is worth it. If I paid 60$ for this, I would’ve still been ok with it, but not near as happy about it.
My final summary is this. It’s a fun game, good plot, fun game mechanics, fun action, fun effects. Graphics are cheap cartoonish, reminds me of the original one, wondering if they meant to do that. Not a deal breaker. Sound effects, there aren’t many. There’s a flame sound, there’s a slashing sound, there’s a flying and jumping sound, aside from that it’s just cinematic/dialogue. So it’s limited as far as graphics and sound, but again this is a cartoon/child’s game. My biggest complaint is the camera sharing for co op. I agree with working as a team, but I enjoy games where if I want to go after one objective I can, while my teammate goes after another objective. You simply cannot do that in this game. So is it perfect? No, is it passable, heck yes. I’d say it’s just under perfect. I usually play zombie games, RPG games, FPS games, very gorey games. Or racing sims (where the mechanics are very complex, not simple racers like Mario kart) so it’s a nice change of pace for me to play something that I don’t get such a headache from. I would no doubt recommend this to others. If it was split screen rather then Shared screen, I would happily have rated it 10/10. Since it isn’t, I’m giving this a 8/10. Trust me that means a lot as I prefer gorey, FPS, RPG sims, RTS, etc. Games with online, or a in depth world that you can play several times over and still see new things.

GUMDEALER
I know the last spyro games have been hard and mediocre, but this one looks amazing, and i'll explain why. One thing is they really pushed up the graphics. They are incredible. I am surprised not too many people have noticed, and the gameplay is like a kid's version of god of war. Don't believe me? See the trailer on the internets. In conclusion, i am buying this game on the weekend and if crash mind over mutant was good, this should be 100 times better.

I've been playing the Spyro games since PS1 and this one..wow, the graphics look bloody beautiful, and the story is kinda a switch compared to the last couple of games..which were kinda bad in my opinion. I'm gonna pick this one up when it's out, I recommend it to any long time Spyro fans.

I used to be an old spyro fan but now that i got this, and spyro is all i can think about, and that's coming from a teenager! The sound effects are FANTASTIC, graphics are better than the other systems( yes i have tried them on all other systems!) gameplay- i played through the story five times and also when you beat the game you can go back and replay any level. You can play as spyro and cynder and fly whenever you want! I can't wait till they announce the next new spyro series(not that spyro skylanders piece of c*ap.)!

I played the original spyro games and when I played this one I loved it. I like the graphics, voice over, and game-play this was my favorite one so far. This was probably my last spyro purchase because skylander looks stupid and is only targeted for kids. So hopefully they will make a spin off about Spyro and Cynder later on in the years to come only thing to hope for now.

I've played the past two spyro games, and i thought both were good but short. This one looks a lot longer and maybe the last of the spyro series. (I said maybe.) The graphics look lots better than the other ones, and the storyline seems pretty good, because it follows the last two. The two player mode seems okay, but better if you're stuck on a part. I just beat "The Legend Of Spyro: The Eternal Night" and this one comes out tomorrow and i can't wait!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a hardcore fan of Spyro- Actually, it was the first game I ever played. I have played every Spyro game they've comeout with and am waiting with baited breath for the next one. However... This game makes me a very sad panda. This game is good the first time through, especially if you're a Spyro freak like me. Ahem, anyhow... The game picks up where it last left off in the Legend of Spyro series with Spyro and Cynder encased in a large crystal made by Spyro to protect them from the collapsing cavern. Some minions of Dark Master are seen approaching with a box. They break the crystal and attach two snake necklaces to the two dragons. This is what bonds the two for 2-player mode. Then it picks up with them trying to get to the Dark Master.... Yet again. The graphics are pretty impressive considering Spyro's past. You also have a nifty ability- Flight! However, this is more annoying than anything. The flight is controlled the whole time by little air currents that push you down or force you up. Another awkward flight moment is, say there's a big drop into nothing. You CAN'T fall into it. You won't die. Lots of odd glitches as well. Although the controls are very easy to catch on to. Pretty much anyone can pick this up and play it. But that usually also means The game was WAAAAY To easy to finish. With Very poor replay quality. I've played and beat it a total of 12 times... Hated it every time past the first. All I can say is I've got my fingers crossed in hopes that the next will HOPEFULLY Be better.
