Nostalgia...? Barely.

Being an avid Sypro fan since birth, I was looking forward to the newest installment of the series. The last Spyro game I had played (and enjoyed; Enter the Dragonfly is a completely different story) was Sypro 2: Ripto's Rage, and after so many repetitive plays I was looking for something new. The first turnoff I experienced when I unwrapped my Christmas gift was the cover art. Had Spyro really changed that much?Okay, so Spyro isn't the same kid friendly dragon I once remembered. I suppose I could deal with that.Since I didn't play the previous game, I was a little lost in the story at first, but that wasn't much of a detriment. Everything seemed so much darker and brooding, and what happened to gems?! The story seemed overdone and unnecessarily dramatic; I could immediately tell (as I'm sure others could) what would happen with Spyro and Cynder at the end. Although I wasn't happy with the overall game, there were some additions that I was pleasantly surprised with. For example, Spyro could now kick power moves with one of his four elements. That was pretty awesome. I could switch between Spyro and Cynder and have them work together to kick someone's ass. That was pretty awesome. The cut scenes and voice acting were well done. You can't go wrong with Elijah. But, the fact that I had to use cheats to complete the game because it was too hard doesn't put it very high on my list; I remember when Spyro was fun to play.

Possible Spoiler: the legend of spyro trillogy is a trillogy that follows the life of everybodys favourite little purple dragon. this is not like the old ones where you go throw portals this is like what a dragon would be like in real life agter finding out that hes a dragon. like in the first part of the trillogy spyro was just an egg in a temple. but it was no ordinary egg it was a purple egg a dragon that only comes around like every ten-thousand years or something like that. the the temple was under attack so ignitus ( spyros closest family) saved him and put him on a mushroom cap and let him float down a river. famous last words time. " May the ansestors look after us ... may they look after us all". and then flies off. but cynder was also a purple or black girl dragon that was taken by Gual the final boss in eternal night. the there is Sparx. Sparx and Spyro were almost like brothers. they grew up together Sparx being the trouble maker. then when one of Cynders minions took sparx and put him in a cage. oh ya cynder was poisoned by darkness if you wondering why she is evil. sparx almost got crushed but spyro... blaaaah fire everywhere trees on fire mushroom burning. ya a bit sarcastick. spyro talked to his "parents" ( not really they are dragon flies) and told him that his journy is somewher else yadi yada yada. so hes off . sparx was talking to HIS parents and his parents said that best friends belong together.they go through this swamp and meet up with ignitus. ignitus is suprised thyat spyro is even alivein this case shoked to actualy see the purple dragon.they talked ignitus was sad to say that it was to late but spyro is determined to vanquish Cynder. let me shorten things up for youspyro learns lightning indantes freezer, ice in tall planes, earth in the refinery place with lava, then fights cynder in a place once thenin some weird realm. who knew. the weird realm is where spyro turns cynder vack to herself and she is now a dark colour because of that evil that poisned her. spyro flies back carrying cynder and when he leaves the realm he is all tired and cant use his powers. problem solved but Cynder (when she was evil) took the powers of the 4 elemental dragons ( ignitus, voltier, zero and some dragon that i forget his mane is) and released the dark master. eternal night starts off from that. ill make this as short as i can. spyro gets his powers back in dreams in this order: fire ice earth and lightning . (if you defeat the 5 dragon challengesyou get dark spyro. you fight arbourick thenravage rider then the exocutioner and skabb then skabb again and finaly gaulbut there is a twist. the selestial moons aline when you have fallen through a big hole when gual trys to kill you and you go dark/evil. you fight him then kill him bymaking him stone and then making him crumble whith his dark fury. then because of that malifor mountain or the well of souls start to collaps. then spyro remembers somthing that the cronilcler said for spyro to do. ride out this storm and live to fight another day. thats what he does. he saves himself sparx and Cynder in a giant crystal thing as the place is collapsing and going kabooom . now our feature presentation. da da ta da. dawn of the dragon. its starts right from when spyro save himself and his closest friends. the crystal. some green thingys smash the crystal open in tyhe future and wat do ya know ur a teen. get out the proactive. just kiden but ya ur a teen same with cynder and your now a team with her? well i guess so because you chained together and you have to fight with her. your stuck in a arena type thing and you have a thing holding you in that thing you fight break the thing you still chained to eachother ya. when you get to a mana crystal you learn all of your elements again. spyro is fire ice earth lightning. cynder is shadow poison wind and fear (fear make the opponents scared).but before all that you meet up with hunter and he actualy looks like a hunte

When you think of successful game franchises of the past, the one thing that comes to mind immediately is continuity. Not just of the storyline, but of the overall gameplay experience as well. Minor improvements get thrown in as the game developers mature and learn how to get more out of a particular system, but the controls are usually evolving for the better. Unfortunately, this installment of the Legend of Spyro series totally disrupts that concept, and shatters it into little pieces by throwing any kind of continuity whatsoever straight out the window. After already having two great titles for this series under their belt, Krome Studios got the rug pulled out from under them by Activision in favor of the questionable programming talents of Estranges Libellules... wow, where did that come from? *lol* The end result is a totally different control layout that, honestly, SUCKS. Here's a news flash for ya guys... if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Why didn't they just replace Sypro with another character? Maybe some little French chef shooting croissants at American tourists or something? Compared to the previous two games in this series, the sounds are choppy, the graphics are a weak attempt at overkill, and the overall gameplay suffers for it in the worst way possible. If it weren't for the voice acting (which has proven to be great in all the games of this series) I'd call this game a total bust. That is probably the only aspect of this game that the Frenchies couldn't directly screw up. I doubt if I'll even try to finish playing it, and just return to Gamestop to trade it in on a game which is actually fun to play!! Way to go, Activision... you have succeeded in returning the Spyro franchise back to the pathetic category where it languished for years prior to the Legend series coming along.
