Overheating in less than an hr?

You would expect good quality if you trade in a $400 value xbox360 and still end up having to pay for this ps3. Not with this one. I get this ps3, go home, set it up (noticed quite a few scratches so I can tell the previous owner didn't take good care of it), hop on. First thing I noticed was that the fan was running constantly and the game wasn't even in yet. I put in MW3 and get online. once I started playing I noticed the fan began to work EVEN harder? within less than 1 hr the system shut off on me, the ps3 was hot in the back and I was left unsatisfied. not even 3 games played. I just didn't get my fair share of the deal. Game Stop should make sure the system was "tested, cleaned, guaranteed" before putting a label on it -_-

This player is not a happy camper.

Fat PS3s are infamous 4 over heating

I noticed in the summer time, i could barely play my PS3 even on a rainy day. The system was not built for climates with a temperature sustaining 80 degrees. The fans main pull of air is through small slights in the front and even smaller ones on the bottom and top. I cut my face guard with 2 giant vents for more even flow. The flow is so constrained dust can actually clog the slits. I thought they would fix this on the PS3 slim, but they made it worse. Now the main intake is only 2 line slits ( 8 in long & 3cm wide ) under the button guard. They made cooler processors, but they should have tried and resolve the flow. XBOX Slim fixed this problem through adding giant vents on the top. So when you lay it down the heat can go right up and out. I suggest having a small cooling unit. I noticed my fat PS3 in front of the AC unit would play FALLOUT 3 with minor non-crippling lag. ( with a 11mb save ) without cooling the game would freeze on a save that size.
PS; An air cooler not a fan. A fan will short fuse your PS3 fan.

Very upset with Gamestop

I bought this Playstation, my 3rd ps3 and Gamestop sent me one that didn't even say the word Playstation 3 on the cover. It also had a broken door to get to the ports. The playstation is great but Gamestop sent me a bad Playstation. Didn't look refurbished to me...

refurbished means the insides are new but the shell is already used that's why the word playstation was missing the old user must have scratched it off

Just get the New One

If you are going to buy a ps3 buy the new version.This version gets this yellow light of death.I only had it for like 9months and its broken.cool device but buy the new one so you wont have to phone sony. in process now of gettin it fixed sony 150.00

My friend had this xbox and it got the yellow light of death and he got the 320gb one for christmas so he GAVE me the 80gb one for free. i took it apart bought thermal compound and fixed it for 10 dollars. its not that big of a deal.

my opinion on this..is simple...when by a used car that it considered very reliable, and had not been properly maintained and abused ...it will surely break down sooner than later. If your PS3 was abused..say not kept in a well ventilated area when being used, never tried to vacuum the vents every month or less...as I said early about a car proper maintenance equals longer life...same goes for the PS3 open it the thing up clean it out and change the paste equals longer life....I'm not saying YLOD will never happen...
