Better than the first one
PostedDecember 26, 2008
Rock band 2 is better than the first one in my opinion. Obviously, it adds tons of new songs, and that number will keep growing with downloadable content. But it adds a new interface and a few new modes, like Battle of the Bands. The game is just as fun to play with friends as the last one, and the new songs definately make the game feel a lot fresher, as some of the songs from RB1 could be getting stale after playing them for so long. The song variety is great, and includes songs from a lot of different decades and genres. I cannot speak about the new peripherals, as you can play the game with the original RB1 games just the same. I plan to get the guitar, as I hear the strum bar has been improved, but probably not the drums or Mic, although I hear the drums are also greatly improved. Rock band 2 is more of the great fun you found in RB1, but with new content, that appears to be more difficult this time around. Rock band 2 is a must if you own the first, and if you didn't buy the first, then now's the time to join the Rock Band party.

Best Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PostedDecember 21, 2008
I got the original Rock band in March 08 and I thought it was the best, but after playing through Rock Band 2, I thought the original sucked. Some people think RB2's graphics aren't any more different from the first game, but if you look closely, you have new outfit choices (such as masks, bandanas, and a new clothing section called Thrift Threads), new venues and backgrounds, and the game is actually brighter than the first. The new peripherals are amazing. The new drum set is more quiet and responsive than the first one, but if you play expert, the kick pedal will still break. I never got thew new guitar, but I heard from one of my friends that it worked well. Singing is exactly the same as the first game. My favorite part of the game is actually the song list. It is MUCH better than RB1 and it contains some genres you wouldn't even expect on RB, like screamo. The mix of classic songs, cheesy 80's songs (like Round and Round by Ratt), and songs from the new millennium will make players smile. The character creator is actually deeper than RB1. It contains new outfits, faces, hairstyles, and accessories. I was actually able to create some celebrities and TV and movie stars (such as Indiana Jones, Ozzy Osbourne, and even Dr. Phil). Some of the lady faces look weird, but most of the guy faces are gonna be used and it will crate an almost spitting image of you. I know what you are asking yourself: Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour? Well, the Rock band instruments will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour, so if you are gonna get it, just get the game, but you will probably spend more time with Rock band 2 than any game.

Best Music Game (and its not even close)
PostedDecember 17, 2008
Rock Band 2 is the pinnacle of music games. I've been playing music games since Guitar Hero 2 launch and I've beat everything since that. This game is just plain fun. Before you go into features, graphics, setlist, this game is just fun and lots of fun at that. Its a blast to play alone but as a full band there is no other game that delivers the kind of experience that this one does. Best part about the game, DLC. Downloadable Content for you casual players out there. New songs EVERY week. I guarantee if you go on the music store that now has almost 500 songs available in addiction to the RB1 and RB2 songs you will find a band that you have wished would be in a music game. They have everything from thrash metal to No Doubt to country music. I dont like country music but i can appreciate its inclusion because it is fulfilling somebody elses request for their music in the game. I mostly play guitar, bass, and sing. Im terrible at drums but I occasionally still play them for fun. I loved guitar hero 2, guitar hero 3 was ok, Aerosmith was a waste of time, so I've been through the ups and downs of these games. I can honestly say that Rock Band 2 exceeded my very high expectations for it. Online play allows me, now that im in college, to play with all my buddies who used to live down the street from me. Setlist is epic check it out for yourself. RB2 instruments are phenomenal. I hated the RB1 guitar and I love the RB2 guitar. Harmonix made the necessary improvements to these devices. Before people spout off about Guitar Hero World Tour. Just don't waste your time. Guitar Hero may outsell RB2, but ONLY due to the "guitar hero" brand being more well known, not because it is even close to being a better game.Guitar hero has been absorbed into that monster known as Activition who just insists on taking good titles and ruining them (tony hawk anyone?) The only thing it has that RB2 doesn't have is the studio mode which was a phenomenal idea that isnt all what its cracked up to be. Songs are capped at 3 min. and the sounds that you can create sound horrible. Great idea, bad execution. I'll take massive DLC available over that any day. The GH:WT interface really bothers me too. Its cluttered and the design of the guitar hero menues and such ever since GH3 have been bland. In all honesty GH:WT is a good game but it feels like it came out before Rock Band one. Everything GH:WT did has already been done better in Rock Band 1 and with RB2 being a big improvement over RB1 it really is just no contest between the two. The only way you should get GH:WT over RB2 is if you have a Wii or a PS2 and can't access DLC AND your a huge tool fan because they have 3 songs on GH:WT. Otherwise if your like 95% of the population and arent going to buy a game for one band then Rock Band 2 is an excellent choice. RB2 has my highest possible recommendation. I could write more about its integration with rockband.com or battle of the bands (daily updated online competitions) or new and improved world tour mode, but just do yourself a favor and go buy it yourself.

Quite possibly the best music game out now
PostedDecember 9, 2008
Hands down, this is the best music/rhythm game on the market. Guitar Hero: World Tour--no way; Rock Revolution--seriously? Whether you loved the first game or you just like music games this is the one for you. Of course, you can get the game with the instruments. The guitar is better built, as are the drums. I bought the game when it came out as just the disc in September. I just used my old Rock Band 1 instruments and an old X-plorer controller. If you choose to go that route, it is not a bad choice. The songs are top-notch. Hardcore players will download new songs from Xbox Live Marketplace (highly recommended if you don't already). Combining disc songs plus downloaded songs, there really is something for everyone. I've played many music games in my time, and I keep thinking about how inept they are compared to Rock Band 2. I think I'll go play it now!
