Played the Japanese import. This game is going to be an awesome game for the DS. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness has been ported to the PSP as Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness with great success. Unfortunately, quite a bit has to be taken out to fit Disgaea on a DS cart. There won't be as much voice acting, there's not enough space for it. The animations look a bit sluggish, but there are frames that had to be removed. The core of the game is still there, the hours of grinding characters and items haven't been removed. This cart will stay in your DS for some time to come.... There's also another special character to recruit. Comparing it to other forms of Disgaea:HoD is inevitable, but if the purchaser cannot afford a new PSP, this happens to be the best way of getting your Disgaea fix on the go. Long playtime, similar controls to the previous versions with an added touch screen option, won't want to put it down until you're good and finished, and with multiplayer it might take a while... Story is awesome, but if you've played through Disgaea:HoD or :AoD, you've already seen/read it. Graphics take a huge hit from the other versions of this game out there, but putting it into that small cart... it's to be expected.

I agree with the previous writer. The lack of voice-acting in the game is a bit on the annoying side, but if you have a smaller memory space, one must make sacrifices, and I believe that they chose correctly. It would have been a horrible travesty if they had, instead of eliminating the voice acting, eliminated a few of the bonus worlds instead. Frankly, I LOVE killing Baal and going through the demonhall mirror, etc. Those, to me, are much more integral to the game, even though they don't really play a part in the storyline. The graphics look relatively similar to me, but then again, i'm not very picky (i still play my SNES fairly often).Overall, this game is a definite buy for the more hardcore tactical RPG gamers in the world, and at least a rental just to see what the talk is about for all of the rest of you. If you are looking for a tactical game that takes the humdrum out of the constant grid battles with witty banter, and very funny one-liners, etc. this is the game for you.If, however, you absolutely hate to level grind, I would recommend looking elsewhere, because you will find yourself woefully under-leveled once you hit the 12th board or so.

I am a huge RPG fan which includes Kingdom Hearts, FF, Disgaea etc. but I have to say sure some of the voice acting was cut off but that's what happens in all DS games and you'll have to get used to it. The gameplay was awesome and just kills. Disgaea is a must have for all RPG fans. I mean DS's are way better than PSP's the only regret i have about this game is there is no wifi. I'm a huge wifi fan for sure. But Disgaea lives up to its expectations 100% taking into fact that it for DS and not some big shot graphics company. Nintendo just blows me away, how they can turn just decently graphic games and turn it into a best seller. Like I didn't like the Wii and DS at first but when I got a Wii for my b-day and a DS for easter then I looked at it and said WOW they are way better then most companies. Nintendo can just overcome the odds.

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
This is the best game ever. Disgaea has taken it to the next level with wifi, new features for the DS, and etc. This game was stunning for me when I saw it. I only have one problem with it and that's there is no japenese voiceover. However, overall this is a fantastic game and I recommend you buy this :D

I have always been a HUGE Disgaea fan, I have both one and two and the PSP version. When I heard it was coming out for the DS I was excited because I had to sell my PSP because I really didn't use it anymore, mostly my DS. When I finally got it I could tell almost instantly that it was kinda a let down. The biggest let down but I can understand is a lot of the voice acting was cut out to make room for everything else in the game, the only voice scenes are the beginning story, in between episodes and fighting. The storyline stays solid and sticks to everything from the original. The biggest let down is the graphics in this game. They aren't smooth at all or blend in, the only thing that does is the backgrounds and that's it. The characters are all pixelated so sometimes it cuts off part of their face when they move. Also a lot of the attacks have been INCREDIBLY slowed down from the original. That or the graphics on them are just horrible. For example Dimension Slash (ultimate sword attack) looks horrible. When the attack starts and is about to strike, the sword instead of being behind the character, moves right in front of their face and blocks it from view, then the actual attack is incredibly pixelated which is a big disappointment. Some attacks like Avalanche (spear attack) go by fast with it hits but it takes 3 times as long to complete than the original PS1 and PSP version. It is also disappointing some skills the screen goes black around them in order to complete the skill probably because they thought the DS can't handle the map and characters switching angles while completing different aerial attacks (ex: Skull Splitter). The sound also is kind of less than to be desired, it definitely sounds more polyphonic than the original and is kinda annoying in some fights where the song sounds completely stupid. While all the action is kept in, the graphics, the sound are what is pushing this game down to being priced down faster than any of the other Disgaeas because it's almost not worth buying now unless you are a dead hardcore fan like myself who just loves it. The touch screen menu's really isn't even worth it, though I do like how they set it all up as well. The one annoying thing is you were able to check out what skills your opponents knew incase you wanted to capture a monster for its skills, but in the DS version you can't at all so when you catch a monster its all about chance if they will know something good or not. The upper map grid on the top screen is definitely one of the things that makes it awesome because its much easier to position your fighters especially in the Item World when the terrain is very unleveled and you want to hit a monster or throw to the next level panel. The Prinny Commentator actually is very funny and I actually kept reading his stuff aside from the story line because they definitely put a big sense of humor and sarcasm on him. But Prinny's are always awesome so that makes it even better. I have no one to test the Wi-Fi features out with but the idea of it seems very interesting. The Music Store where you can buy music for the Item World is also a good thing because Elegant Demons over and over and over again is really boring after 2 levels or so. Anyway thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
