More pro's than con's

I'll start out by pointing out some of the bad parts of this game. When controlling outfielders, there are a few glitches in running speed and errors. Also, the "shortcut" menu is really annoying. You find yourself going through a sequence of 5 or 6 menus simply trying to quit a game and start another. The online interface is also pretty bad, and the games are incredibly laggy. On the other hand, this game contains many great qualities that put it ahead of The Show. The graphics are amazing, and are accompanied by terrific, smooth-flowing commentary. The pitching interface, while difficult at times, is really fun once you get used to it. Instead of simply pressing the x button, you actually move the right analog stick in accordance to the style of pitch. Sometimes, you mess up and throw horrible pitches, but this is a fun, innovative method of pitching. The batting interface is fine, but I haven't heard many complaints about it anyway. Franchise mode and home run derby are both fun, and the idea of earning cards by accomplishing certain tasks for specific players isn't too bad either. Overall, once you get past some minor glitches that can be avoided by simply playing the game more, the better aspects of this game shine through and provide for a fun, realistic baseball gaming experience.

Glitches Galore!

As a baseball fan, I have to say that I'm happy with MLB 2K9. Plenty of teams, player variety, fields, and, probably my favorite part of the game, the awesome, smooth commentary. As a gamer, however, I must say that this game is probably one of the bigger letdowns I've had in a game in a while. And the reason is the gameplay. When the game starts, with you being your favorite team and facing off against a rival, (for me it was my Tigers vs. those Indians), you get excited by all of the noise and the atmosphere. I must say that this game does a very good job of capturing the atmosphere of the game. But, when you very first go to pitch, you begin to scratch your head. Problem number one, the pitching is way too complicated. It requires that you flick the right stick in a bunch of directions in order to throw different pitches. For me, this seldomly worked, and caused me to throw a slow one right down broadway. This led to an ungodly amount of contact, and also exposed the next problem. The fielding in this game is terrible. This is mostly due to bad controls and terrible glitches. Twice I hit inside the park homeruns because opposing fielders couldn't pick up the ball. And I can't count the number of times that I've fielded a routine infield grounder just to throw it to the first basemen and not get the out because he somehow forgot to put his foot on the bag. If the controls were better, this gae might be able to compete with the Show, but as it is it's just not worth the time and money.

A different Style
PostedApril 8, 2009
It is a pretty distinct difference between the 2 available games. I prefer 2K9 simply because I enjoy having to do more than press a button to hit and pitch. As far as graphically this game is not as nice as The Show, but I think in their own right they both "cover all the bases" so to speak. They both contain glitches in the animations, so when you make your decision you have to choose, do you want a game or a simulation. 2K9 is a definite simulation type game where The show is a game. Then again I never enjoyed The Road to the Show either. You really can't go wrong with this game, you actually have to try and learn new stuff in order to play well. So go buy 2K9 or even better just go rent them both and make your decision. I can tell you though, this game takes skill and practice, much like the real game, in order to do well.

Good Baseball Sim !!!
PostedMarch 16, 2009
This game is a baseball sim. It is a really good game. The graphs are great and the controls are awesome too (easy to use but challenge) . The interface was great. The statistics were enough and good. The challenge is good and close to real baseball game. The sound only is good. The best way to test if a sport game is realistic, is in CPU Vs. CPU games; MLB 2K9 pass this test (with some adjusts to sliders). Another feature I looking in sports game is the spectate mode (Madden and NCAA FB). This mode let me watch (CPU Vs. CPU) or play any game with any team in franchise or season mode, independent the team I choose to manage and play in the start.(NHL, NBA Live and FIFA dont have this mode; please give this note to EA Sports) I recommend this game to any baseball fan.
