For real fans of the best sport in the world
PostedMarch 14, 2009
First off i have played both MLB 2K9 and MLB 09 the Show and i can tell you the show blows 2k9 out of the water! There shouldn't even be a discussion. With all the major bugs in 2k9, it shouldn't have even been released. Everything in the show is superior to 2k9 including graphics, gameplay, sound, etc. The crowd in this game is as realistic as i have ever seen. It really gets you into it and makes you feel like your in the stadium. This game even on rookie, is very changeling. There are a few faults. There are way too many foul balls hit and it gets frustrating after a while. I wish that the pitching was like 2k9's though where you throw with the left stick. But what else can i say it truly is the best sports game out there right along with nba 2k9 and nhl 09. If you like baseball stick with the champ!

I'm glad everyone is saying it's hard because after throwing my remote a few times I had to come online to see what the deal was. This by far is the most realistic baseball game I have ever played. But, like others have said it is really hard. Camera Angle is outrageously great! Controls I gave an 8 because it is a little frustrating to advance runners with so many buttons to press. Interface I only gave it an 8 because one thing that really annoys me is when you want to check number of pitches or even where you swung on the last swing you have to wait until the pitcher is ready to pitch and then I can press Start, Select, etc... doesn't give me much time to analyze how my last swing was and before you know it when I return to the game the pitcher is ready to pitch right away. I should be able to press start, select whenever I want. Stats are a 10, I haven't seen any errors with that. Challenge as I said it's really hard to win in this game. I play with the Mets and the Reds have kicked my but a few times, the Reds are horrible by the way. I totally understand how others have said that previous baseball games are way too easy and I must agree totally with that. All I ask is if it was a tad easier like .5% it would be more enjoyable. I get frustrated when I get creamed by scrubs. I will try playing with the sliders a little and see if it makes a difference, but I don't wanna make it too easy either. I play in Veteran mode. Graphics, best graphics I have seen in any baseball game 10 10 10! Sound is great haven't noticed any issues with sound. Team/Player Variety is fine as well. Overall I gave it a 9 because the waiting to the last minute before I can pause the game is really really annoying and the difficulty is a little too hard. But, I will keep playing it because it is that hard. Chances are if it was easy like previous b-ball games I would stop playing by the all star game in July. Buy it, there's no other competition out there.

The Show vs 2k9
PostedMarch 14, 2009
I am an owner of a 360 and I just recently rented MLB 2k9. I played it for a couple hours last night and I enjoyed it, however, there were several areas of the game that I thought were unrealistic. The hitting was very easy as I scored 9 runs in the first 2 innings. The pitching was pretty easy but if you caught more than an inch of the plate the AI hit you really hard. The graphics and presentation were pretty good but the fielding seemed to lag heavily. THE ONE THING that I really hate about the 2k series is that 95% of ground balls and line drives in the infield are caught. Infielders in 2k9 have way too much range. That being said, I went over to a friends house last night and played a couple games of MLB the SHOW 09. I can honestly say it is the best baseball game I have played in years. The first thing you notice about the game is that it is more difficult than 2k9. I started out pitching with Johan Santana and the pitch meter was extremely quick. When hitting, the AI threw very hard and you had to be quick about your swing. It only took me a few innings to get used to it however. In the third inning I singled with Reyes, stole second, and scored on a double to right center field by David Wright (by the way the player stances such as Reyes and Wright are absolutely PERFECT). I ended up going 7 innings with Johan and striking out 9. So it was harder than 2k9 but it will only take a few games to get used to it. You have to pick your pitches and spots on the mound and you really have to learn to manufacture runs on the offensive end. The graphics were absolutely amazing. Stadiums were beautiful, fans were chanting and booing. The presentation and sound was amazing. You could literally hit the ball anywhere on the field and it correlated to your exact swing. If you hit the ball hard enough, you COULD HIT A GROUNDBALL 6 inches from and infielder's glove and it could get through to the outfield. Amazing. This was the most realistic baseball game I have ever played. Seriously, the only thing I liked about 2k9 over MLB the SHow was the commentary, however, the SHOWs commentary is not bad at all. I could see myself getting bored with 2k9 eventually because of the lack of features and variation within the gameplay. MLB the SHOW is so detailed and varied plus the fact it has Road To The Show which I haven't played but seen and heard great things. I could never get bored with MLB the SHOW. I'm literally going to buy a PS3 and this game because I'm such a fan of baseball and 2k9 just does not pull its weight compared to this game.

Only people who hate baseball dont like this game.

I went and picked this game up the day it came out and i was happy that i did. I had a 360 since that came out and i finally got rid of it because i got a PS3 for my birthday, and it has come full circle for me now since this game is out. 2k really screwed up their game this year, and by that i mean everything. The show is awesome. It may be challenging but it is fun. First of all, hitting is very realistic. I am a month into my franchise and the most hrs anyone has on my team is 3 and the most stolen bases anyone has is 2. Its hard to steal bases in The Show, but when i played 2k i stole 4 in one game, with a guy that was about 75 speed. Now onto pitching. It is a little ridiculous that i cant hit my spots early on but striking out at least 3 or 4 guys in a game is no problem if you have a descent pitcher. People that think this game is "too hard" go play a stupid arcade baseball game like backyard baseball, or if you wanna go way back, buy a game cube and get Home-run King. Thats right HRK with the almighty jeff bagwell on the front, that game was so easy that i scored 97 runs in one game and hit something like 25 hrs. O and i also struck out 18 batters in the game with the same pitcher. I give MLB 09 The Show a solid 5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves baseball and wants a realistic baseball sim. Don't waste your money on 2k9.
