awesome but...

so check this out. this game is awesome, i have always loved mlb the show but this one is a little different. i read most of the reviews on here before i bought this product and was concerned bc a lot of people said this was too hard. it is not hard to hit home runs, then again, im a die hard yankee fan and always play with the yankees. i have also made some pretty good fielding plays, however, there are times when i just cant get my guy over half an inch to make the catch. when this happens it overwhelmingly feels like something is keeping you from being able to make a good play so the cpu will win. also, no matter what difficulty level you put it on , the cpu team makes NO mistakes. none whatsoever. its very frustrating bc it does not matter what team it is either. this game is awesome and i highly recomend it to baseball fans. especially if you like the mlb the show franchise. just be prepared to get your game face on bc you cant make one mistake or you will lose the game. if you are not a baseball fan and you are just getting it bc its a best seller and you best friend has it then dont. you will get so frustrated you will want to break the disc in half. overall great game.

Still the best sports game.

Every year I fall more in love with this game. In my opinion the best sports game out there, well now that 2k does not do 2k college basketball (Please come back). I played 08 the whole year until 09 came out. The career mode is addicting, as is franchise mode. A few things I wish would/could be added. (1) Creating your own franchise, city, stadium, hiring a gm, etc. (which all sports games should have.) (2) Better recognition of pitches well out of the strike zone (3) Some sort of camera angle or coaching interaction (audio or video) giving you an idea if a line drive is going to be caught or not when running the bases. The only interaction is to advance. (4) Offer suggestions to pitching rotation, line up, etc. In career mode, my top pitchers have sometimes all been in triple A, meanwhile the starting rotation consisted of the 3rd to 7th best start pitchers in the organization. No wonder some teams get beat so badly when simulating. (5) The new baserunning is awkward. It would be cool if pitchers tipped runners or hitters off sometimes. (6) Audio coaching comments in G to R ratings. (7) More in depth roster names throughout the organizations with scout suggestions of who to trade for or keep an eye on in other organizations. (8) Multiple announce teams to choose from or custom pick your announce team (another must for all sports games.) I get tired of hearing the same audio. (9) Common sense attendance, interactions, and celebrations for franchise and player milestones. In both 08/09 The Show, I broke the single season consecutive game hits record, and hit 400 on legend level. Yet did it in front of a sparse crowd, no celebration, no articles or headlines. (10) news updates with players request to be traded, etc. . FYI's on hitting. Always guess fastball at various locations. Like real baseball, fastballs are the easiest to hit consistently. Also when you get BP with single faster pitches (fastballs, sinkers, sliders), Swing with POWER, the majority of pitches are in the strike zone and you have alot of points to accumulate. As for hitting, it helps to have a good understanding of what kind of movement each pitch type has. Swing where you project the pitch to be, not where you see it heading. Work the counts, I tend to get better hitting pitches when I am ahead in the count. Great game, but nonetheless still has potential to get even better. Have fun all.

Very good game, but I would have to rate this a 3 controller game (amount of controllers I will break during the season due to frustration). My friend and I get a franchise going every year so we are hardly rookies and our records right now are 1-17 for me and 4-14 for him. We started out on 4th hardest before moving it down a notch after my 0-10 start. Definitely a tad too hard. As for gameplay I have a major gripe. If a non fly ball is hit to the outfield the players never charge the ball to make a play. Instead they stop and hesitate before throwing. This drives me crazy. It's almost as bad as last year when the SS or 2B would lob to second when you needed a quick throw. Is it that hard to incorporate sense of urgency into the game engine?

This is definitely the hardest sports game i have ever played. If you put the skill level on rookie you should be able to have fun and easily get hits and runs, but instead it is still incredibly hard to hit. They try to almost be to realistic and take the fun aspect out of it. Sure challenge is great but that is what skill levels are for, and if you want to be able to get hits and score a ton you should be able to do that, but this game does not allow that. Aside from ridiculousness of the hitting, it is a very solid game. There are great graphics and sounds along with custom playlists. The Road to the show feature is very in depth and extensive (only problem is that you have to be a pitcher because hitting is just too hard). There are some other cool features and all together this is a good game. The hitting is just way to hard and it sucks out all the fun.
