Almost perfect, but I will focus on negatives mostly

By all accounts, this is an excellent game!! Really, I would be lying if I said it isnt the best sports game ive purchased, and ive been playing video games for about 25 years of my 32 years of existence. The graphics are absolutely top of the line. Along with the sound and controls. The GM mode is my favorite part personally, as you can spend literally an entire day between seasons adjusting your roster, making trades, signing free agents, the draft, editing your lines at the NHL level and for your minor league club, getting your team cap compliant, while keeping an eye on the future, etc. You have full control of every part of the organization, and its excellent, better than any Franchise mode Madden has ever put out, and thats saying something because Madden has had some pretty good franchise modes. During the season you can make trades obviously, put players on the block and ask what you want in return or are willing to give up, and than the computer will offer you deals. As GM, you get points based on certain achievments, and you can than use those points to upgrade your scouting department, medical staff, assistant coaches, etc. Upgrading scouting gives you better reports on draftable players, thus making draft decisions less of a science. Upgrading the coaching staff means those draft picks will improve at a faster pace, which is important when that verteran player gets too old or too expensive, and you need a good, young , cheap replacemement. The stat tracking is flawless, keeping track of hits, takeaways, turnovers, +/-, assists, goals, basically everything!! Again, the best stat tracking of just about any sports game ive played. The controls are very good. Left stick moves your players, right stick controls the stick and the types of shots you want, and the triggers controls passing so everything just feels comfortable offensively. Defensively, same thing as far as controlling the player, but the right stick delivers checks, and the triggers control pass blocking with your stick, and blocking with the body. But everything is flawless. The few knocks that I have, and the main one that bothers me, is the camera angle on penalty shots. It zooms way in, and at an angle, making it difficult to comprehend how close you are to the goalie, which in turn makes it hard to know when to do the extra juke, or fire off a wrister over his shoulder, etc. They really should just keep it at the same angle the rest of the game is played at imo. Also, getting the game adjusted to your skill level can be a pain in the you know what. At rookie level, you can virtually skate around the rink with one player in control of the puck for the entire game if you want. Goals are very easy, as are compiling shutouts. Its probably good for the younger kids, but than when you switch to pro, it is polar opposite, literally a 180! Now to combat this EA puts in loads of options to adjust virtually every part, but it will take you some time finding the balance so it isnt a blowout either way, and you are still challenged, but also rewarded for your smart play. Anyways, my headline was a little misleading, as there really isnt a flaw to this game. Maybe one thing I'd add is the ability, similar to Maddens franchise modes of the past, to set ticket prices, concessions, tv deals, coaching salaries, and based on performance and fan support, etc, you could build new arenas, or move your team to different cities, etc. It would just add that final touch to GM mode that I think would make it literally flawless. All in all, this game is a perfect 10, I put it up there with COD 4, Fallout, Mass Effect, Knight of The Old Republic and some of the other elite games. It is a must buy for any hockey fan, or sports fan for that matter. Just an excellent game, period!!

Pissed off Battlefield fan

NHL 2010!

Simply the best NHL game to date, blowing the 2k series out of the water. NHL 10 introduces new features like board play, a first person fighting engine, smoother game play, and a new "Race For The Cup" mode. Not to mention the new GM mode. Users who play this game will love this game and find it hard to put down the controller! The Be A Pro mode that was a new feature and very popular in NHL 09 has been refined and they have added a new feature which allows you to be play a prospects game, where you will be drafted into the NHL depending on how well you perform. In addition to the Be A Pro refinements, you will now be able to edit you player even more by unlocking or buying new helmets, sticks...ect. I would recommend this game to any hockey fan or any gamer who wants a truly amazing game!

"NOT ONLY THE BEST SPORTS GAME OF ALL TIME, BUT THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME"

I'm so happy and excited I bought this game that I don't even know where to start! This game is nothing less then PERFECT!!! I was thinking to myself..."What else would I change if I had the power to"? I thought of ONLY 1 THING! I would make the goalie mask designes as they are for real, and thats it! The graphics are way better then 09 and the gameplay is absolutely stunning! Do you know what else is AMAZING about this game? Don't you hate when you play a game and the settings are just not right? Dont you hate when its either way to easy, or way to hard(winning every game or losing every game)? Well all the games b4 this had that problem but now with NHL10 they have totally fixed that in the most amazing way! Once you get your settings to the way you like it, theres a separate setting which is "Difficulty Of CPU" Which means you dont have go and play around with all the setting you just have to move it up a notch or 2, or whatever suits you. On default its not set at all, so all you have to do once your done fine tunning is move that setting up IF you need to. This game is beyond brilliant! Honestly I played a season in 09 and I never played again. I bought the game so it hurts to say that but its true. NHL10 is so realistic and has so many great new features the options are endless. I was hooked on Arkham Asylum b4 I got NHL10 and since then I havent played it once. The board play is absolutely amazing and the fighting is FINALLY REALLY REALLY FUN!!! This game is so perfect that I cant imagine what they could possibly do to make it better??? This is a MUST BUY!!! This is my first time writing a review and im doing because this game has blown my mind and I want everyone to know who AMAZING IT IS!!! 10 OUT 10 IN EVERY WAY!!!!

This game is almost perfect. The control is amazing, the graphics are amazing, and the game is just so much fun. It has a ton of settings so you can set it to be like a real hockey game (for the hardcore fans) or more of an arcade style (for casual fans). I'm playing on a higher difficulty and higher realism and it's just like playing real hockey. You can't make blind passes, hit someone from behind, hook/slash, or get your defenseman caught without paying for it. Goals are more realistic now. If you run into a hot goalie, you will need to hack away at a rebound or score a "fluky" goal. I had one that was deflected twice and my winger deflected it in with his skate as he was skating through the crease (with no "kicking motion" of course!). There are so many game modes, I doubt i'll get to play them all, but the GM mode is awesome. It's like EA took all the best features from Madden and NHL and combined them. Some sports games have great coaching and GM modes and lousy gameplay. Some have great gameplay, but lousy GM modes. NHL 10 has both awesome gameplay and awesome GM modes! I highly recommend this game. It's NHL '09 with everything that was missing added. Note: You will need to adjust gameplay sliders and settings to get the gameplay to be what you want. At the default settings, the game is slow, sloppy, and boring. Any criticism you see of the gameplay is probably because of this. Definitely turn the game speed up and then play some exhibition games and adjust the other sliders until you get what you want. Doesn't take too long and then the game is extremely fun.
