If you still break out your PS2 for some quality gaming time, going without Devil Summoner 2 is almost a sin. Taking right after its predecessor, this game is about as solid as a game can get for this generation. The graphics are extremely well done for a PS2 game, the music really sets the proper mood, the controls are tight, and the story is as refreshing as can be expected from a game that comes from ATLUS. The customization is also a huge plus in this game. As with just about every SMT game, you can raise the stats on your main character the way you see fit at every level up, and you have a large variety of demon companions to choose from. The battle system itself has gone through a few tweaks and refinements as well, fixing everything that might've been tedious or just plain annoying with the first game. Examples include more sword skills, unlimited ammunition for your pistol, and a more classic and rewarding way to capture demons to your side. The only single complaint anyone might have with this game is that (as with many RPG games) there is a lot of dialogue, which might turn away some newcomers. Thankfully, there isn't much more than there is a need for in the plot. And as with the first game, the fetch quests may become monotonous to some. If you haven't played the first game, there might be some parts of the game that won't make sense to you right away, but for the most part, the game does a good job filling in the gap for new players, even going so far as to ask the player if they 'remember' certain parts of the past game, and explaining what they don't. In this generation of competitions to see which system has better graphics, systems like the PS3 and the 360 tend to favor games of the First Person Shooter and Sports genres to showcase said graphics. This tends to leave little room for RPG's in the new age, and Devil Summoner 2 is just such a gem crowning this genre that has almost since forgotten its place in the gaming world.

Review 2 for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2
Can't Wait

Huge Shin Megami Tensei fan and just finished the original Devil Summoner game. Pick it up cheap if you haven't played it yet. I loved the 1920's setting and hope they keep this theme going. The battle system on the first game was cool, where you can capture minions to help fight with you all the while keeping the same type of battle system as all the other in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Also while your waiting for this to be released, try Persona 4 and/or the Shin Megami Tensei online - cool stuff - can't wait.
