A BEAUTIFULLY done 2D style Fighter!
PostedJuly 1, 2009
BlazBlue is a friggin awesome fighter than im pretty sure you and your friends will have a blast playing. The game single-player is pretty tough if u put it on the harder difficulty levels but its not really the hardest out there. The gameplay is great for beginners. Its really easy to pick up which is good if its your first time but for me and maybe other experienced players, it might be a turn-off because its OVERLY simple, depending on the character of course. But either way its still very fun. The characters are very well made even though there is only 12 (which i think there shouldve been at least a few more). Each character is unique in both personality and fighting styles. The characters are actually even in their own way. Anybody should be able to beat anybody which is great because there are many "broken" characters in all fighting games. An example would be Sagat how he can throw projectiles high and low at a very fast speed. The graphics are nicely done. I liked the high def 2D characters fighting on very beautifully designed 3D backgrounds ( like Marvel vs Capcom 2 only better). The only thing i have to complain about is the special moves. Although they are flashy, they are nowhere nearly as great as Guily Gear specials. I think it is lacking in that. I've never really been a fan of English voice acting over Japanese but it is nicely done. The music is actually pretty sweet just like Guilty Gears. Not as great but we cant keep comparing it to Guilty Gear right? The story is actually impressive, which is rare in fighting games. It has a branching storyline with each characters and i think it was nicely done how it introduces the background of each character and then shows the link they have with the story of BlazBlue. It should take about an average RPG length to get through all. BlazBlue has tons of unlockables, which shouldnt be mistaken with download content. It has lots of gallery pics to unlock, and audio interviews of character voice actors but in Japanese only without subtitles unfortunately. Limited Edition version is worth the money, seeing how its same price as standard edition and it's out a whole month earlier than standard for pre-orders only (sorry dudes). It has nice casing, the game of course, an instructional DVD with tips and strategies for each character, and a few other bonus contents like trailers and such. It also has a 2 CD soundtrack with like 48 songs or so. FINALLY, online, like street fighter, is just as fun if not better because it is much faster. Overall BlazBlue is a game you should definately pick up if you're into the hardcore, fast action fighter. Its great and it has waaaaay more pros than cons. I recommend it. (4.5 / 5)

A must buy for Capcom fans

When I went into the playing of this game, I was expecting a Guilty Gear/Darkstalkers remake, but what I left with is a game that reminds me of Marvel vs. Capcom 1 blended together with Darkstalkers/Mortal Kombat, and music from some action packed movie. The controls are easy, but the combo's are difficult to pull off, which I believe makes it easier for newbies to get into these kinds of games without feeling totally crushed by an experienced player. I am having trouble deciding if it is easier to use the D-pad or the Joystick, but I find it a little disappointing that, instead of having to learn the combo's for each individual character, all you have to do is move the Left Joystick to the Left, and you perform a "Combo". The menu is fabulous, with complete refinement in how it’s set up and how it feels. The ability to control almost anything you want in-game is quite a thrilling experience. Music is phenomenal. From the righteous guitar solos to the symphony-esque performances, the musical qualities of this game far surpass some other games that just make you feel like you were left hanging. For a 2-D fighter, the graphics are incredible, especially on HD. The graphics in the background have amazing depth, and the contrast between colors allows you to play in ah of the background as well as be able to accurately track your characters around the screen. Overall, this is an incredible game that I will surely bring to parties when people get sick of playing COD WaW and other games like that. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would have to push IGN a little farther and say a 9.6. This game will hopefully shape the expectations of people who play hardcore fighting games, and make them expect a game of this quality in the future.

Great Game, possibly needs a bit more though

BlazBlue is an excellent game. The Story, Versus and Arcade modes are all top notch!! There are lots of great unlockable achievements for the 360 version. It has great gameplay and great character moves, as well as excellent animation. Though it is a 2-D game, I would highly recommend it. The reason I rated it somewhat poorly was for 2 reasons. 1) I believe the 10-person character base is somewhat limited. I feel there should be a few more characters that are available for the Arcade, Story, Versus, and Networking modes - sort of like the previously created game "Guilted Gear", or even a game like "Street Fighter IV". And 2) I feel that the downloadables need to be expanded upon. The only real downloadables for XBox 360 are more-or-less Ultimate versions of 4 out of the 10 characters on the game, which can actually be unlocked just by playing out the story and arcade modes. I think if the creators are able to add in a few more characters to the game, through downloads on both the PS3 and XBox 360, this game would be rated 10 out of 10 stars with no questions asked!!

BlazBlue is a must have Fighting Game!!
PostedJune 30, 2009
BlazBlue is not only a very challenging and wonderful game, but it is also stunning graphics wise. Even though the game consists of 2D fighting, the visuals and the backgrounds are something to awe at. The luscious color in the background and the vibrant contrast of the lighting in the fighting locations are amazing. But enough about the graphics, this game is overall wonderful. The fighting is complicated and very intriguing to say the least, but it isn't too hard for a beginner to grasp. This is my first 2D fighting game and i picked it up fairly easily. You can set up the controls the way you want them and set them the way that suits the player. Even though there are only a dozen characters to choose from (including the unlockables) each is unique in their fighting style. Mastering one character takes much time and effort but it gives you a major sense of accomplishment in the end. I definately recommend this to anyone who is new to fighting games or is used to them. It's really fun
