This game is perfect for: casual gamers
New Super Mario Bros. Wii melds the side-scrolling gameplay of the classic Mario games with slick 3D graphics--and the result is pure platforming bliss. There's a little of everything here that made the NES and SNES Mario games great, including a few surprises. Along with the standard assortment of power-ups, there's also the Ice Flower, Propeller Helmet, and Penguin Suit to add a fresh twist (and yes, Yoshi does make an appearance in this game, albeit a brief one). Also new is 2-4 player co-op: Players 1-2 assume the roles of Mario and Luigi, while players 3-4 play as yellow and blue Toads. Things can get pretty hectic in co-op if you can't get everyone to coordinate their efforts--but it's still a blast, and less experienced players can always enter a bubble by pressing A to let others do the tougher portions for them. Aside from the main game, there's also the Coin Battle and Free-For-All modes to extend the multiplayer fun.
The controls are tight and play just like a Mario game should. You'll hold the remote sideways like an NES controller, with buttons 1 and 2 for jumping and actions. You can shake the controller to do a spin jump, as well as pick up items when next to them. Tilting it allows you to manipulate certain platforms, ect. It WILL take some getting used to, but the motion controls are never overused...so it's not an issue.
If you haven't played a Mario game in a while, fear not. Even though the later levels are filled with perils, checkpoints and extra lives are plentiful. If you die several times in any level, a Super Guide block appears in it. Hit it and you can watch as Luigi runs the course and shows you how to do it--an ingenius way to give beginners a boost. And if that isn't enough, you can also spend Star Coins you collect to watch gameplay videos that demonstrate how to farm for 1-ups, ect.
There's a lot to love about New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but Nintendo did drop the ball on a couple of things. There's no online support, which is strange for a multiplayer game in this day and age. Plus, Yoshi is only present is a select few levels. I'm not sure why Nintendo decided to do this; perhaps they wanted the new power-ups to take precedent.
Nevertheless, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a stellar platforming game suitable for all ages. If you grew up in the 8-16 bit era, you may enjoy it even more than the Galaxy games.

Let me start by saying I'm a kid, so if you want some adult review, look elsewhere. This is an amazing game. The graphics are great, the music is good, it is not very glitchy.(I have only had it glitch once or twice) It is pretty hard, but I'm typically better at super Mario galaxy. It took me 2 years to beat, but I hardly ever played it. The co-op it great, But my little sister just runs as fast as she can through the level and always kills me. (I like to try and explore instead of flying through the level) I'd say it is good for ages 9+.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a great game for everyone. You don't have to be a "hardcore" gamer to play it. It brings back those feelings from playing Super Nintendo Mario games. Ahh, I remember those days. But anyways, the Nintendo Wii I feel is going to be forgotten, with the Wii U with the new Mario game.

This game is pretty good. The game itself is very fun. Mario, Luigi and blue and yellow toad are the players you play as. You go through 8 worlds and an extra world if you beat the game. This game is fun and exciting.

Awesome game lots of new worlds and suits such as the ice suit, the fire suit, the propeller suit, the penguin suit and some others cool things you can change into as Mario. Another thing is four players can all be playing at the same time on one screen it can get pretty chaotic but it is very fun. There are four different characters you can play as Mario duh, Luigi, Blue Toad and Yellow Toad.

This game is fun like the nes one.I like that 4 people can play together. The last castle with bowser is real hard to beat. I like it when Bowser get big and he chase you out of the castle and you have to surive it all. Every mario games get better and better.

this game is awesome! i got it as a christmas present but after a month the game stopped working , and i know I didn't mess it up because since i bought it i kept it in the Wii.so i guess there is something wrong with the disc. And later today I'm gonna buy the Disc Skip Fixer Pack with Cloths from Gamestop. I'll see what happens! Wish me luck!

This game is a great, more challanging sequel to New Super Mario Bros. DS. This games power ups are awesome. The propeller suit, the pengine suit, the ice flower and more! It has a lot of content, but they did take off the mini games found in DS. This game is a must buy for wii!

Not a sequel. New Super Mario 2 is. This is just a version designed with multiplayer in mind and New Super Mario Bros. U (I dub it New Super Mario World) is this one's sequel.

This game is perfect for: kid gamers
This is one of my most favorite mario games, unless if I'm playing single player. The gameplay is basically just like any other super mario game. It's a flat 2D world. 99% of enemies will die if you hop on their head. You can earn a certain power up by hiting a power-up block with your head or doing a ground pound and then touching the power-up that comes out of the block. Most power-ups will be very familiar such as fire mario, ice mario, and mini mario. Some power-ups won't be familiar like propeller mario tha allows you to fly for a certain amount of time and penguin mario that allows you to shoot ice balls and allows you to swim well. Some powers will be missed though, such as the power-up that allows you to grow super huge. The story is pretty basic. Princess peach gets captured by Bowser, Bowser jr., and a bunch of mini Bowsers. You then go and attempt to save her. When playing through the story you will go through eight different worlds. Each world has more then ten levels. After completing a level, you can move on to the next level. Sometimes there will be multiple ways to go throughout the story. There will also be these mushroom houses that you play a game to try to get power-ups that you may save and use for a level. The game goes like this, there are a bunch of levers and each has a power-up or Bowser/Bowser jr. face on the back of it. You need to get to of a kind to get the power-up, but if you get two Bowser/Bowser jr. faces the game's over. There will be two boss battles in each world. Each world has a different boss you fight two times. The story may be played with up to four players. The game is much easier with more players. They will be able to play as Mario (P1 only), Luigi, a yellow Toad, and a blue Toad. Coop in the game also changes the gamplay a little. Instead of having to restart the level after dying, you may respawn in a bubble and will be able to play after another player pops you, the only way you would have to restart the level is if all players die and have not yet or can't respawn. Unless your playing coop the game is a little to difficult and boring. Luckly people playing the game in solo will be able to skip the level if they died to many times on the level. The story is sadly to short and you'll have nothing to do. There is another game mode you can play that requires two to four players. Whoever get the most coins before the time limit runs out wins. This is a game mode that you'll get bored with after playing it once. There is also no Wi-Fi, so if you have no one to play with at your house your going to have to play alone. The gameplay is basically an upgraded version of New Super Mario Bros. The graphics are no different then New Super Mario Bros. so when playing you'll see cartoonish looking graphics which is not bad at all. It's just not 100% perfect. There will be sounds that you will here all the time but won't annoy you. And I got to say, their music is very catchy and unique. The game sadly has nothing to offer after beating the game. Yet it is fun to play all over again with different people. This game deserves a 8.5/10. Hope you like my review!

this is the best Mario so far me and my kids play this one all the time. We love to play every man for his self. Oh to just hear them yell dad is priceless. We beat the game also like five times so far its just keep getting better cause the better you get the better the game is.

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
While I have enjoyed the past 15 years with 3d Mario I always yearned for something more akin to my nes and snes favorites and this is that game. The perfect update to the 2d franchise steps into a realm of gameplay more like super mario 3 and world combined, with new power-ups and a bit less level exploration then world had. The challenge is a bit soft as far as completing each level the real fun comes from collecting all star coins and playing the very fun and challenging levels of star world.I highly suggest this to any long time mario fan its truly a must have along with all stars, Now if only we could get a zelda in this fashion to go along with mario and donkey kong.
