Metroid: Other M

For decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games, and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus finally tells her own tale in this revealing, personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation. Metroid: Other M is an unprecedented collaboration that blends the slick, action-packed production of the world-renowned Team Ninja development team with the game design talents of the creators of the original Metroid. Metroid: Other M is a dramatic new direction for a legendary franchise and a bold new blend between cinematics, storytelling and the best in interactive entertainment.

I like that its a shooter that's rated teen. It is a fun game with nice weapons, armor upgrades, boss battles, etc. I like the way it switches between 2 d side scrolling and 3 d gameplay so its like two games in one, a wii game and a game boy advance game...

Let me start by saying that I was 8 when the first metroid came out on the NES, and was a proud owner of every Metroid game that ever existed since then. I am only about half way through this game and feel that it is a good one to have. The game itself is what I would expect from Metroid. Everytime you get further in the game, you feel rewarded. My biggest downfall is that there is no scanning. Although I felt that in the prime games scanning was quite annoying, it at least gave you an insight on how to beat the bosses, in Other M, you are kind of left to guess. I found this true when it came time to fight that lava creature thing, it wasn't until the second time I faught it that I found out that you had to grapple beam it's open mouth, then pull it out of the lava, and missile its belly. As for Samus coming out whiny, I felt that this actually made her more human, with thaughts and emotions towards a group of people that she worked with in the past and had a large love and respect for, enough to where she would be willing to take orders from her former CO (Commanding Officer) to assure that they were safe. If that makes one come off as whiny, then you have never been put in the situation, and don't understand the brotherhood that soldiers get for one another when put through the life or death situations they go through. The other complaint that I had was the FPS switch over, where to fire missiles, you have to go from holding the wii reomte sideways, to pointing it at the screen, this was only annoying at first, but after a while, it becomes quite fluid. it just takes some getting used to.
In conslusion this is a game that will have you entertained for hours, you just have to take the complaints you have for it with a grain of salt and not let it discourage you to continue on, if you can see through it, then you will realize the true goodness this game has.

this game is yet another awesome addition to the metroid series.GAMEPLAY: very fun, basically a third person shooter, but with platforming, epic melee finishing moves and puzzle solving. CONTROLS: ok, in normal mode you have to hold the wiimote sideways,to switch to first person mode you point it forward, this seems a little difficult at first but becomes easy once you get used to it. it was a little disappointing that you can no longer get items from enemies instead you now hold the wiimote up to regenerate missiles. It was also disappointing that you cannot move in first person mode like you could in metriod prime trilogy. STORY: if your a metriod fan you will probably LOVE it. if your not a metriod fan or you haven't played super metriod you might not get the super metriod references but you may still find it interesting. My only complaint here is that Samus lets Adam tell her what to do which I found very annoying. VOICE ACTING: for the first time in a metriod game you get to hear Samus talk, while this is very nice and refreshing unfortunately she talks a little too much and can sometimes just ramble on. GRAPHICS: extremely impressive for the wii, possibly even the best graphics of any wii game.

This is a good game. Even if you didn't play the SNES version, it is still fun. the challenging puzzles and gameplay will give you a taste of old school gaming, but with revamped graphics and better ability to tell a story. If you didn't play the SNES or NES or GB titles, you can probably find a summary of them online. This game is really fun and highly recommended.

Metroid: Other M is not a first-person shooter like the Prime games, nor is it a 2D platformer like the Metroids of old--it's a 3D, third-person action game that forces you to swivel the Wii remote forward to enter first-person mode in order to perform certain functions. Yes, this is awkward at first, but most enemies pause long enough when stunned for you to switch views and fire missles, ect.--so it's not really a problem. As for the story and cut-scenes, outside of the occasional corny dialogue there's not much to complain about; the in-game graphics and cinematics are some of the best I've seen for a Wii game. The auto-aiming feature helps out when camera views are less than ideal, which negates situations that would otherwise be frustrating. Also, even though the main suit upgrades are now unlocked via story-driven events (instead of finding physical items), there's still a fair amount of hidden missle and energy upgrades to satisfy your inner explorer. Overall, I've found the unorthodox decisions in Other M to be a breath of fresh air for Samus and company. That said, would I recommend that the next Metroid game follow this design? Perhaps not, but Other M is still worth a playthrough or two.

I agree that there is way too much talking in the game and really long cutscenes. Also I didn't like the new run and gun focusing. I liked how you moved in an first person view the whole time in the Metroid Prime series. This game is great in graphics and controls and overall, the story is fine. I didn't beat the game yet, but I'll beat it some day before 12/21/12 comes up. (JK we won't die, but still that's my deadline.) It's so awesome that I can't put my Wii Remote down! BUY IT!!!!! IT'S SO CHEAP AT GAMESTOP!!!!!

This game wasn't like any metroid game I've played. I bought this game because it was only $9 and I was bored of all of my other video games. It sucked because you had to keep switching between different views and it really got annoying. Also, there were too many items that you had to find in the game, and if you missed one item, then you were screwed. If you do buy this game, DO NOT buy it at a retail store because they sell it for $50.

Metroid: Other M is not your regular Metroid adventure,Nintendo and Team Ninja made some big changes to this game in the Metroid franchise.First thing you will notice is that samus has a voice now, while for some this might take some geting used to,I personally like samus with a voice because it finally gives emotion to a character that no one really knew about.Another thing your probally going to notice is that the game has a very cinematic way of telling its story, which means your be seeing some long cutsense to fill you in with whats happening.By doing this the story really begins to hook you and some of the characters you'll actually care about. Now gameplay wise the game is awsome, unlike other games in the franchise its emphasis is on action instead of exploration. This makes for some intense fights against huge bosses and even regular enemies, showing that this is the most action packed Metroid ever made.Controlls are pretty weird at first, you hold the wii remote sidways like an NES controller,so you'll be moving around in a 3D space with a d-pad.Now I know this sounds hard but its actually quite easy. The weirdest part of these controlls is an implementation of a first person mechanic.By pointing the wii remote at the screen you turn into a first person view, much like the Metroid Prime games.Although you can't walk around like this, you have to use it to fire missiles and kill some enemies. When you start to get the hang of the controlls it becomes really fun and addictive, combine that with some amazing melee attacks and tons of misslie upgrades and energy packs to find all around the space ship after completing the main story and you get one the most unique Metroid games out there.

This Metroid game is different from the others in the plot, playing style, and over all feel of the game.
In the plot you explore the back story of Samus, and figure out why/how she is the way she is, which breaks her from the mold of just being a silent butt-kicking bounty hunter roaming across space. Personally I thought it was nice to finally see that Samus is in fact human.
The playing style is incredibly simple. While you might be a little perplexed at first, it's incredibly easy to get the hang of things. The simple Wii-mote only control design made the game playable for even the beginners. Plus, when you know how to pull of her "finishing moves", they look pretty amazing to watch.
The overall feel of the game is nice the first run through. Everything starts to make sense as Samus narrates what's happening throughout the game. It's overall feel is one of a sort of dark mystery. After you've beaten the game, there isn't much else to do aside from play though again on hard, but the game is pretty easy. It lacks the hidden caches like in the Metroid Prime series, and there aren't many hidden places to discover.
Overall, the game is a great one-and-done kind of game. It's worth it's price, in my opinion, and it is incredibly different from the other Metroid games. You shouldn't knock it until you try it. It was an interesting, easy, well-designed game to play.

this game was a disgrace to the metroid series. The story is complete dung, the restrictions with the items are stupid, the controls are awkward, there are so few items, the focus thing was dumb, and overall beating the actual game was too dang easy. I got 100% on my first run through and I still can't get 100% on super metroid (best metroid game by the way buy for the snes of vc). There are nowhere near enough secrets or places to explore which was in fact the main pull for the metroid series when it started and also I miss sequence breaking and lack of excessive dialogue and this game really makes you miss those simple things. The big thing about samus is that she is mysterious and keeps to herself instead of narrating everything that happens to her. Even talking about this mess of a metroid game makes me want to play super metroid and beat the bosses in reverse order and I will do that. This game's bad, play the old ones and the prime series

this game was good i liked that it brought back memories from all of the metroid games. I like the moves that you could do like when you jump up on them and shoot them really good. I thought it was a good game but i think my favorite metroid game was probably metroid fusion it was a really good game.

My friends have all told me "This game sucks!" "It's the worst Metroid game ever!" etc. Well I purchased this game brand new for like $10 (at other stores it's like $30-$50) and I was amazed at what the cheap little game had in store for me. Samus finally can talk, the game has a whole crew of good sounding voice actors, the platforming elements of the game is great, and the storyline of the game kept me wanting to play it until the end. The only bad things about this game is the unneeded missle/scan control mecanism, some fights were a little hard for me to get past, and the fact that the final boss fight (main story wise) was WAY TOO EASY! So if you are a hardcore Metroid fan get this game, but if you can't get past the fact that Samus can now talk or any other prejudices against this game, then at least try it before you blow a console up.

Awesome storyline, loved the gameplay and godd graphica and sound. Overall this was a great game, but it was a little short. I'm pretty sure in the beginning they mentioned a sector 4 and 5 but why didn't Samus go there? P.S. The boss fights were epic.

This is the best Metroid yet. Almost everything was absolutely perfect. The cinematic scenes were gorgeous. I almost cried when (spoilers) Adam died. The ability to mix first and third person was genius. I found three problems though. When you want to fire a missile, (which can only be done in first person.) you have to either find high ground, or run away for a second or two to make sure that you don't get hit by an enemy. Also, enemies won't drop missile or health. When you run low on missiles, you do something call concentration. Basically, you hold the Wii remote upwards and hold down A. The same goes for your health, but that will only work when you have a tiny but of life left. Another thing, The fight with Ridley was so darn fun, I wish I could've done it again, but alas, you cannot. To anyone who's beaten Metroid Fusion, this game explains why Ridley looks like a statue. Other than that, the game is perfect. Tecmo Koei pulled off the exploration perfectly. There's a ton of Items just begging to be found. Once you have 100% items Hard mode is unlocked. If you want a real challenge then beat Hard mode. It is team ninja that made this after all. Anyone who thinks this sucks has no Idea what they're talking about. Buy it.

This game is way too underrated. (1) A main complaint against this game is the fact that it is cinematic, VS the prime games where you would piece together the story through scans, and entries in your log book. The voice acting is rather good, and the role of Samus was cast well. She may sound like she's just reading off of her piece of paper, but how do you think you would sound with barely any human contact for a few years. (2) The controls are another main complaint, sure an analog stick would have been nice, and using the D-Pad to move in 3D space may be inconvenient, but the controls are in no way broken. Due to the lack of an analog stick you might think that dodging would be hard but by pressing 2 at the right time you'll perform a cinematic dodge and sometime perform a counterattack. Overall I believe this is a worthy successor to the Metroid name.

I have had a good time playing this game, but like some other reviewers said, the cinematic parts are way too long and you can't skip through them which is a little ridiculous. My favorite part about the game is how you play in 3rd person but you can switch to 1st when needed! Overall I think this game is pretty fun, but after I beat it, I will trade it in.
