Wasn't Memorable

Ok so I was soooo ready for this game when it came out, pre-ordered it and everything, I got home and wa sin awe on the world I was in, such detail!!!! The animation of a person walking where flawless and the body movements of people as they talk where the same, voice acting was top notch, but alas This game fails horribly, all you do is run around doing jobs for people for like the 1st 4 hours of the game, then "OH MY GOSH WHATS THIS!!?" is there a plot finally starting to form after 6 hours of gaming!? WOW! But yet again its a "go here kill these guys get this item then come back to me" type of missions, thats what you'll be doing through the whole game, the weapons are your standerd shooter game weapons. "shotgun, maching gun, pistol blah blah" The games says "you can upgrade your weapons" cha you can but theres only like 2 upgrades for the shotgun and like 1 for the machine gun. Now the story....ITS SHORT! after the 6 hours of gaming the story starts up and around 4 more hours the game ends... now in those 4 hours of gaming all you did was 2 missions... 2 missions that didnt explain anything about what was going on, why where the people doing this? why are these people here? what happens after the ending? what happend to that one guy? none of those questions are answered. Now the game has racing! WOOHOO!!! right? WRONG! I won every race in the game with little to no effort. A 7 year old could win these races with a blindfold on. The racing, the running around killing people and collecting items for people get boring FAST. when you reacht the end of this game you'll want your money back, Did I forget to mention that there are a ton of invisible walls in this game as well...just thought I'd throw that out there,,, GOOD GRAPHICS, AVERAGE SHOOTER GAMEPLAY, HORRIBLE RACING,GOOD VOICE ACTING AND ANIMATIONS, HORRIBLE STORY, MISSIONS GET REPETITIVE, After you beat the game the 1st time you'll prolly never touch this game again

AMAZING!!!!!

So I bought this game about two days ago and have honestly loved how you get a sense of real survival from it. The third person buggy idea was awesome at first I was worried because I don't care for racing games. Then I took my turn on the wheel so to speak. The options for customizing your ride and the fact you need to constantly have ammo shows that even though its a short portion usually it's vital to survive. The missions don't have the repetitive feel like other FPS's which is good. You actually get a sense of being someone in towns when they go from not talking to you to being friendly every chance they get. Simply put Bethesda did it right yet again. The enemies in this game are not bullet sponges they will adapt and try to take you out to an extent overall I think if you like Bulletstorm by epic then give this a shot it's worth the 6 hrs I have put into it so far.

Impressive but not so impressive....
onOctober 17, 2011
After much anticipation, dating as far back as 5+ years ago, I have finally played Rage. The short description of this game, is, Fallout meets Metro 2033 but not as cool as Fallout in many aspects (namely, depth). Graphically, I was impressed but not impressed. I chose to buy this for PS3, since it is only one disc (Mass Effect 2 taught me to never buy a multi-disc game again, it's so Dreamcast era). Apparently, however, I made the wrong choice, as the 360 has much better draw distance and graphics all around. On the PS3, everything within a 25ft range is extremely blurry and low res, as you turn or walk in any particular direction, you are actually passing textures that have never loaded. If you walk at an incredibly slow, tip-toe rate and stop for a few seconds, the nearby textures will finally load. It's ugly as heck most of the time because of this. In looking at some 360 footage, the draw distance (as usual) is much better and things like grass and wall details are higher res and pop-in is next to non-existent...it just looks better on 360. There is technical reasoning to this though, all the way down to Microsoft's better development tools (same tools as used to develop for PC, which devs are more familiar with, thus easier to port from PC to 360, or vice-versa), the fact that the 360 has blazing fast and additional EDRAM on the GPU, and because the development Xbox 360's are 1GB memory, which makes developing games to take full advantage of the full 512mb's that are the consumer models, much easier, since space does not have to be reserved for debugging. I wish Sony had 1GB PS3 developer consoles for this same reason. As far as the weapons go, ID talked up a storm about their upgrade features and let me tell you, it's no different than any other game that upgrades weapons e.g. Bioshock, Fallout etc. With all the hype ID placed into their weapon upgrade system, way back in 2007, it sounded like you would be able to attach coke bottles, pencils or coffee cans to your weapon if you very well wanted...meaning, complete custom and unique weapons nobody else out there would likely have. Somewhere along the lines they must have bailed on the plans. Get this for 360 to have a closer PC-like experience.

Good but short

This game definitely had me hooked but you can beat the game in less then a day (14 hours to be exact). I'm not even a huge FPS fan but I liked this one so when it ended I was upset. Also the racing in this game is really fun as well but I didn't like the Rallys (I usually don't like racing games either). The only other negatives I can think of is that there is no auto saving when your in a mission area and it gets annoying if you die almost all the way through and never saved it. Also the multiplayer stuff isn't anything special just some rallys or a short co-op mission. I'm guessing they are going to throw a lot of DLC's at this game to make as much money as possible.

Is this what Fallout's beta was like?
PostedOctober 15, 2011
I bought this game with very high hopes for it and got a good deal when it first came out from Target. When I got it home and put it in my PS3 I had my first what the heck moment, the only video option is brightness..ok so I adjusted it..the opening movie is awesome and shows the impressive FMV graphics but I dont know what id was thinking after that..texture pop-ins are insane more than I've ever seen in any other game, aiming with the thumbsticks is difficult especialy when you hit L1 (For aiming) on many guns it makes the reticle disappear which makes aiming harder. Overall the game just feels like a Fallout 3 beta (I havnt played New Vegas) For me if you added the elements Rage doesnt have from Fallout (VATs would be amazing, and work in the story since the character has nanobots) but kept the story it would be a much much better game in my opinion.
Pros:
Soundtrack
Graphics (When they're loaded..the sky is amazing.)
Getting to drive cars
All the minigames are a nice touch and a way to make extra money.
Cons:
Plays like a Fallout beta
Texture pop-ins totaly ruin the immersive experience
Lack of upgrades (There are a few but not nearly enough)
Lack of character customization and speech (You can change NOTHING about the main character and he never speaks)
To wrap this up, the game is fun overall I'm enjoying it but it could've been alot better and if I hadnt got the deal I did I would feel a bit cheated. Wait for a price reduction.
