RAGE has been on my wish list since i received a 2006 play station magazine holiday guide, when i heard of its release i thought "well, its been a while since i've seen anything for it, so i'll try it out' and i was overwhelmed with how well this game turned out. The game play for RAGE is something different from other shooters I've played mainly because of how the enemies react, not only do the enemies with rifles provide a challenge, but even the enemies that run at you with machete type weapons prove to be a challenge, mainly because they can free run off of the walls and throw their weapons at you. The game is perfect for hardcore gamers because of this enemy system. The graphics are quite impressive as well, they can be good enough for someone to actually imagine their selves within that environment, and yes its a fallout type setting, but seeing that it was also made by BETHESDA should that really be an issue? I think not, because it is better then fallout due to having a vehicle you can customize and drive into other areas. Bottom line....Buy this game.
I finished this game in a little over 15 hours and I did all the missions I could find... But the missions were all errand boy missions. The graphics, however, are incredible and the controls are great... the car racing and driving are intuitive. I just never felt emotionally connected to my character and it's so NOT open world at all. Basically I enjoyed the game but it was way too short and in today's marketplace, I expect more for my $60. I feel suckered. I was thinking Fallout/Elder Scrolls and what I got was about 25% of a game on rails.
looked forward to this game for months, had it paid off a month ahead of time. Picked it up, got home, though wow this game is great. An hour in I realized there was no advancement, no character customization at all(improved skills and the like). Was disappointed but it was still a fun game.
Few hours of playing later I realized what looked like an open explorable world really wasn't that open and explorable. A little more disappointment but I though heck its still a good game and was having a blast in the races.
Few hours of game play later I was out of races to do so followed the storyline and hunted bandits in my car. Still having fun but was getting the feeling the game was already getting ready to end. Another hour goes by and I'm watching the credits roll by thinking how I just wasted 60 bucks for a few hours entertainment.
All in all, with doing all the races, spending a good amount of time just croozin in the car after bandits and feltrite, and 2 hours with the game running while on the phone with my EX. The game ended with just over 12 hours playtime on the save.
Could have been a great game, I was expecting something more like fallout3 or borderlands or elder scrolls. the company makes great long lasting games, this one just fell way way short of my expectations. Still a fun game to play but to short, I recommend renting it not buying it as it will be beat in a weekend or two.
I will say, i had expected this game to be a lot different than what it is.. This game is all about variety.. if you're not sure about this game, play before you buy.. but if you go into this game with no expectations you will be very pleased.
