A new way to communicate
PostedDecember 20, 2009
Madcatz has innovated the industry of Xbox 360 headsets with this device. We all know that there are many third party headsets out there, like Turtle Beaches. However, this is the first throat communicator I've seen for the Xbox 360! Since it is the first throat communicator, it won't be perfect, but it functions pretty well. For starters, the default settings are completely wrong. Just because they're default doesn't mean they're recommended. On the little piece of plastic, there's a switch that you can turn ON or OFF. That's the MUTE switch, which means that ON means it will be muted, and OFF means it won't. Also, the volume should NOT be all the way up high. This produces a lot of static and other unwanted noise, not just for you, but the players too. The optimal setting is at half volume, but feel free to adjust according to your needs. Now for reasons that this mic is better than the OEM wired headset. You won't have something in front of your face, so you can still drink while wearing it. If you have long hair, this headset won't mess it up like the OEM headset will. If you're tired of the foam piece on your ear and would rather have an earbud, then this mic is for you. For reasons this isn't better than the OEM wired headset. The sound quality isn't as good, but that's just because you're communicating from your throat. It also makes your voice deeper. Finally, the jack you plug in is looser than the OEM headset, and also the volume/mute controls are a bit too high. I don't recommend buying this headset if you have a really thick neck, because these will just choke you. Also, this mic picks up quite a bit of background noise, so if you sit really close to your TV, or you have a "gamer chair", don't buy this. In conclusion, this mic is a pretty good one for the first military-inspired throat communicator. The sound quality isn't as good as the OEM headset's, but other people will still understand you, and the earbud works great! If you get this, remember to adjust the settings according to my second paragraph. I hope this review helps!

Good Mic
PostedDecember 7, 2009
I have been playing xbox live on the 360 since the Christmas after the 360 came out, since then I've been using the standard Microsoft microphone. The first one I had lasted me for about a half a year, the next one about the same, but then for some reason only have been lasting me a month or less for each one I've had after that. So I figured I needed a change. I tried another wired microphone that was extremely uncomfortable until I figured alright, I'll try this Modern Warfare 2 microphone. Before I heard that MadCatz made fairly unreliable console peripherals and I had that experience with their products myself, but that was a long time ago. This new microphone has good and bad qualities. The neck piece itself fits tight but comfortably around my neck. Though the earbud fits good in my ear it starts to give a kind of dry chafed feeling in my ear which starts to bug me. The jack to plug in the microphone is a little bit loose but isn't a problem for me. I think it fits better in my controller though due to the Chat Pad I have in it as well. When speaking to my friends on xbox live they seem to understand me just fine and one of my friends said I sounded louder than normal, this may be due to the microphone I had between this one and the original Microsoft one as it made me sound quiet. The quality off sound coming into my ear is also fine except when I was talking to one of my friends who also bought this microphone. He has a gamer chair and has speakers right behind his head. So his microphone was picking up his gamer chair. I could barely hear him. I think the main thing that should decide whether or not someone wants to get this microphone depends on how loud their surrounding is while playing their 360. If they have speakers next to them, sit too close to their television, or have some other noise near them then they should not buy this microphone. This is because the microphone will easily pick up that noise and make it harder for people to hear you.

Master Blud
Adjustable Throughout
PostedNovember 22, 2009
Well the day I got it I was psyched to try it on. I love the headset don't get me wrong, The only problem I have is that you have to adjust it so it will pick up your voice. Thus meaning put the mic part in front of your neck if you have a thick neck all others should be just fine. It still feels comfortable yet not so clear on their side. When hearing friends or other gamers it sounds little muffled in the headset like if you were to talk over a CB radio. Otherwise I think this product is also great for collectors and loud gamers. If you also are the quiet type of person this headset is not for you. It solely depends on your vocal box and your way of pronouncing words. Also if you want to get really good use out of this put the mic part in front of your neck as explained before for better quality for your friends to hear.

Good concept, not for thick necks
PostedNovember 18, 2009
I was looking for eyeglasses-friendly headset and thought this would be it. The concept is great but unfortunately I won't be able to use it. For the curious, the part that goes around your neck is not adjustable. I have a rather thick neck (I wear size 18 neck dress shirts) and the mic just hardly gets past half my neck (just below my sideburns). This may be the reason why the quality of my voice to my friends was rather bad. Inspecting the mic, only one of the two ends has a hole which I assume is where your voice is detected. Shifting the neck piece around to have that hole closer to my throat improved the quality a tiny bit but not that much. My friends said I sounded "sick" or "talking through cloth". As for the ear piece, I find it had too much bass. Being an in-ear earpiece definitely affects how much of the game sounds you get to hear from that side. Because of the MW2 "logo" printed on the neck piece, I guess the ear piece is designed to be worn on your left ear. I don't have to mention the position of the volume and mute controls. They are way too high on the wire preventing you from seeing it while wearing the headset. The mute control is this tiny switch which is quite challenging to toggle. So yeah, too bad this product could've been great. I'm back to using my wireless headset.
