STEAM Required, huh? I have to pass then.

I was interested in this game, until I discovered that STEAM is required to play it. In November 2004, I purchased Half-Life 2 (Collector's Edition) from GameStop. I've never even so much as seen the game menu for Half-Life 2. Why? Because STEAM won't allow it. It just pops up error message after error message. Three years after purchasing that game, I got a new computer and one of the first things I did was try to play Half-Life 2 again. STEAM pops up error after error, basically informing me that I am still not permitted to play the game I purchased. DRM like STEAM (and the many, many other types) have effectively driven me further and further away from the PC platform.

The game runs perfectly fine on Steam. I'm play it at 1080p/ w Vsync enabled and it runs at 60fps consistently. Looks like a MUCH sharper and defined console version and there are no graphical options to speak of. Regardless, it looks amazing, I do have the PS3 version and it easily wipes it off the face of the earth in terms of overall graphical fidelity.

Like another commenter said, if you're an idiot, get it for an idiot box.. Otherwise, the PC version is top notch and the game is excellent.

Problem with Steam?

If you installed Steam on a second computer and you're haveing the same problem, I suspect the user, not the platform. Fortunately, most games are available for on idiot proof platforms (PS3 XBOX) for you to enjoy. Your loss, Half Life 2 is one of the best, if not the best, 1st person action shooters out there.
