Review from more than one perspective.
PostedNovember 12, 2010
I bought Kinect on november 4th I figured I should wait one week to review and evaluate it. Since I had I played in multiple enviroments to see if the hardware was durable and could adapt the way it should. I first played at my fiance's house Big play space nice lighting. There were kids walking in and out of the Kinects sight and Kinect did well staying on me or the person in play. I played at my brothers house limited space and ligting recognized and adapted better than I expected. Finnally as a college student the one concern I had was could I use in my dorm? The answer is yes. My dorm is very well lit. but small space I am in a single by the way. Kinect reads perfectly. The hand motions are superb but the gameplay with dance central is more difficult. It can be done but it is limted. So all in all Kinect adapts well in many enviroments. Moving on to voice I give it a 9. Kinect reads you clearly unless you stutter or mumble but what person can understand that. Now that I evauated the gamespace and voice next would be if it reads movment accurately. In my experience and this may vary It reads my movements fluidly. I have seen it register my fiance's 5 year old sisters every movement from sitting and jumping. Now all this is fine but does it work in game YES. Dance central and Kinect adventures are prime games to see kinects potential. I honestly believe Kinect can have an FPS one because of sense of depth. Two because of full body recognition. and Three voice recognition. Im gonna end on this note just because no light gun or sword was displayed yet does not mean one can not be added. Sensors that require controllers from start however can not be taken away.

A Huge Step Forward
PostedNovember 11, 2010
I know there are alot of ppl out there who are really trashing the Kinect. Complaining about the price and performance issues. Is it perfect??..... no it isn't, but nothing is! What it is though, is a huge step forward not just in the gaming world, but in technology in any form. This is something that has never been done. So I don't really see the $150 price as being all that steep or unreasonable. Especially when you consider that it wasn't to many years ago that we were paying $400 - $600 for the 360 and PS3 consoles. Then consider that it comes with a game, and your really only paying 100 bucks for the sensor. Which is less than the cost of a cpl games or a handful of movies. As for the performance issues, the complaints and poor reviews i've read, speak of lag from your movements to the characters on screen movements. The fact that it doesn't work well in low light, and that it sometimes fails to track the player or even loses them durning gameplay. Well..... my response to this is simple..... I've had my Kinect and 6 games for a week now and am not having any of these problems! I don't notice any lag at all except for one particular game, and that is a software problem and not the kinects fault or inability to do its job. I will be honest, after reading alot of the early previews, I was expecting a faulty product full of bugs.... but thats not the case at all and i'm still surprised just how well it tracks and mimics my movements. Especially in KInectimals and Kinect Sports (In my opinion the two best release date games). As for not being able to perform and work properly in low light conditions...... this is something else i'm not really having much of a problem with... and my house is always pretty dark, being the hermit that i am. I will say that, when it comes to taking your pictures and videos for in-game replays (which i could care less about), they are of very poor quality in low light, but it tracks my movements for gameplay just fine. it could be that the people having these problems just aren't using a newer, good quality tv or good cables. Good high quality HDMI cables do make a big difference in every aspect of gaming, just ask anyone who is in to extremely competitive or even professional multiplayer gaming. Anyway, I can't imagine there are to many people that wil regret the purchase, be disappointed or feel like they didn't get their monies worth. whether they be families, ppl looking for a new way to entertain at parties, or just anyone who enjoys all types of games without major bias to a particular genre!

you pay for a over priced piece of hardware, some did a taredown for kinect and it only hard 56$ worth of hardware in it. whitch is sad the playstation eye has better fps the pseye tracks at 120fps while kinect does a measly 30fps. ud be better off getting playstation move cause it has better games for kids and core and hardcore gamers

Big Fail for a Small room
PostedNovember 11, 2010
I own a Ps3,xbox and a wii.. Since I played Move first since it was the first to come out, I had a blast with my family and friends. I was hoping The same with Xbox's kinect . But I was wrong. hooking it up was a exciting but a Pain, As I played for a few hours with my friend It became more of a game finding where to stand and what Room Do we have so the kinect can pick up are bodys. I also was really hyped for the voice command But you are limited to what the commands are. If you just getting this for Commands Then DONT! The Xbox Doesnt turn off like it was Showed at E3 nor does it even turn on wen you say "XboxTurn on", MS really went out of there way to make those trailers look good. And if u live in a small apt or Room and is tall then 6ft you will bang your head on a roof trying to jump . AND The Commands dont work On NetfliX! MS lied about the whole thing. Look it up on google for more Info before you buy..

DRock, the main reason it does not have the command of Xbox off/on is because they decided to go green. If Xbox on/off were commands the system would always have to be on using some power so that the commands could work. And I'll just say a lot more people are enjoying Kinect than those who are not.

The most awesome motion System
PostedNovember 11, 2010
This is awesome and a really great value for your money. This is cool. When I first got it I was impressed by its sweet features. Most people will enjoy the voice command which allows you to tell it to play pause start disks and launch things on the menu or even sign in to live. It is amazing how it recognizes your face and automatically signs you in when you wave at it. Navigating the menu is easy and super sweet. $150 might sound like a lot but the Play Station Move is $100 and comes with one move controller the camera and the game and if you want to do multi player you have to buy more controllers and the other kind of controller which will cost $50 EACH. So to do a 2 player game with both kinds of controllers it will run another is another $150. And it doesn't even track your whole body like the kinect does. So with the kinect you only pay $150 and you can do multi player without having to dish out any more money for controllers. This is an overall sweet system for a really good value.
