I play a LOT of MMOs. I'm attracted to the progression, the social aspects, and the co-op nature of being part of a team -- whether healer, tank, dps, or other, and working together to make meaningful progress.
RIFT is the only game that's not dumbing down for 'accessibility' (to let non-core gamers still 'win' ). This game is unapoligetically complex, with a ridiculous amount of class customization. You truly can create whatever you want to play -- a mage that tanks? a warrior healer?, RIFT has it! And there's a strong 4th role added to the 'holy trinity' in the 'support' classes, whose job it is to monitor and apply or remove buffs and debuffs, to crowd control, to interrupt enemies, so the DPS can focus on damage.
The story is a little on the weak side, and single-player questing is not it's strong point -- but I never do any single-player stuff. It's SO easy to get into a group either for co-op questing, instances, or PvP.
Once you hit level cap in other games, a whole new experience awaits. For me, the elder-game in MMOs is not fun at all. It's a repetitive grind to get gear that will be outclassed as soon as the next expansion drops. In RIFT, nothing really changes at level cap -- I still enjoy the exact same activities I did to get there.
RIFT has the BEST F2P model -- they do not sell anything that gives anyone an advantage, so it's not Pay 2 Win. Further, the don't even sell expansions -- all content is totally free to all players, and always will be!
Still, I choose to subscribe and I earn extra XP, extra currency including end-game currency (marks, tokens etc.) etc.

I played WOW for several years but got burned out on the killing.. this was just more of it in a lesser quality game.. graphics are not nearly the quality of WOW.. but then nothing is.

I do not write many reviews but i felt it was necissary for this game. I recieved a promotion to play it for free and hated it. I got hrough about 10 minutes of the game and had to stop. I can see the appeal for some, but to me it felt like a cheap knock off of Aion which is also a MMO and a heck of a lot better. But this is just my impression. If want a good MMO try Aion it has everything this game lacks, and if you think this game is good try Aion anyway its free to play and you will see what im talking about.
