The best DS game ever
PostedNovember 4, 2012
This is without a doubt the best DS game i have ever played. It might also be the best game i ever played. The story was incredible it kept me guessing and intrested from the time i started playing. The music was always apropriote at all times which i think is underated in games. the twists the turns and the emotions kept me on edge to see what was next and it saddens me to see such a incredible not reach its true potential just because its on a handheld and not a console. Over all a great game by atlus that i think everyone should play.

I needed a new DS game and this one cought my eyes. The minute I started playing i didn't want to put it down. The ability to time travel is one not a lot of video games (Maybe any video game) has. the story was great, the battle style was awsome and it was so worth the money.

One gem that will go overlooked

Radiant Historia is without a doubt a great game, but it's never going to get the popularity it deserves. The DS just isn't the right platform for a game like this, though the interface worked perfectly on the dual screens, the audience just isn't hardcore enough. The DS has never been a venue for hardcore RPG's, maybe the 3DS will change this, but that doesn't matter because this game will never get a sequel. Any hardcore RPG fan needs to buy this game, it's not for casual gamers, maybe someone in the midground would enjoy it.
The story in this game is great, it's not as predictable as a lot of games I've played lately but it's no KOTOR either, it's great, not anything that will go down as "Greatest game story ever" but it's still great and without a doubt worth hearing. The place where this game really shines though is it's combat. The system is beautiful and I've never seen anything like it, it's confusing at first and it can be a little simple at times, for the first half of the game the only battle I ever lost was because I didn't realize that some spells functioned as Wards, but it's innovative and clever and it does something that most games don't. It asks the player to make a sacrifice in battle, give up a turn and expose your characters to attack in order to combine their energy and land a devastating combo blow.
Unfortunately the thing that the developers seemed most excited about, the time travel aspect, was the thing I was the most disappointed with. It's interesting sure, and it forces you to live a double life and experience both sides of the story, which was great fun and basically doubled the size of the game. The thing that made it so frustrating was that every time you went back in time you had to run through the same environments over and over again and often found yourself doing the same thing, which doesn't just make the game feel repetitive, it makes the game repetitive.
Even with this one flaw, the story is still great, the combat is amazing, the movement is streamlined and the powers you obtain during the game to help you along punctuate it with nice little side quests and ability.
So what am I saying? Play this game, just play it.

How can you say the DS isn't for RPG games when:
Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest
Lunar
Rune Factory
Pokemon
Chrono Triggar
ect,.
have all been placed on the system?

I pre-ordered this game because I was and am a sucker for bonus content. The box was great, and the music disk was pretty good, but the magic of Radiant Historia that will pull someone in is the game. To make it short and sweet, it has a gripping storyline that becomes hard to put down once you get used to the gameplay mechanics; an awesome, and I mean AWESOME, memorable soundtrack; really cool fighting system that requires strategy; and again, a memorable story that will keep you wanting to do it again. On another note, the difficulty of gameplay ranges from relatively easy to beastly/impossibly hard, depending on the mission, however, it is great throughout. The only cons I can see are that sometimes you will get dragged into a repetitive fight and have only a little health, but on the plus side, you can run away from battles. This is an awesome game and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys challenging rpgs.
