A Total Let Down In A Galaxy Far Far Away.
PostedJanuary 15, 2012
This game promised so much and delivered so little. The voice acting is great and the best in the MMO market to date but nothing special. If I wanted superb voice acting and cinematic's I would have just bought a console game. Once your around 40 you begin to realize bioware focused to much of there time and money perfecting the voice acting dialogues and cinematic's. After you have experienced your characters story line your left with a cookie cut world with little exploration left to the imagination. The planets are all VERY linear and exploration is absolutely boring because everything is inaccessible until you have unlocked area specific missions. This game is mostly fetch a quest orientated with a linear path around the planet. You arrive on the planet at point A and run around doing missions in a linear path till it brings you back to point A which concludes that planets story line. You then receive a quest to leave that planet and go continue the story line on another planet. The planets are extremely small and is laughable to be considered a "planet" planets are more or less leveling zones. If your expecting planets sizes to be on the scale of star wars galaxies you would be extremely disappointed. One planet would be the size of a zone or two in world of warcraft and there are only like 6 or 8 planets so in essence this game has only 8 zones (I cant remember exactly how many planets but i know its under 10. The space combat is absolutely terrible you can only fight on a set path in your fighter which does not even allow first person view. Space combat feels like a cheap quarter arcade game in the movie theater. You may walk around your ship freely but cannot navigate space freely so instead you use the center console to port to planets spaceports. Once at a spaceport you simply click on your ships exit door to land the ship which goes into a cheesy cinematic when landing. The spaceships internal contents are all for looks and cannot be moved or interacted with so if you thought you could decorate your personal ship with pictures, labs, weapon modification stations and other necessary crafting hardware you would be mistaken. Crafting is so simplified you could simply achieve max skills in up to 3 crafting categories by sending your mercenary with a click of a button to gather supplies then have your mercenary craft non stop with all the materials they have found while in combat if you wished! If you thought you could craft speeder bikes and ship parts to make money the game offers a vendor in which sells them at the same quality as you could make them rendering cyber tech crafting pretty pointless. The pvp element is a sham because everyone pretty much rolled empire and there is a huge inequality in republic factioned players. In turn the arenas are pitted empire against empire with a republic factioned player here or there. PVP servers might as well be PVE servers because the empire pretty much rules all contested planets, I believe the republic now only holds one planet on MOST servers. PVP is sloppy and if your level 10 you are in the same arenas as 50s and they CAN attack you. Bottom line: This game is great for newbies to the MMO world but if you are a veteran to MMO's you would be extremely disappointed with the cheap simplified content. If your playing WOW stay in WOW, if you are coming from more in depth games such as everquest or lord of rings online type games I would stay there to because this game will only disappoint. I know how badly people wanted this game to succeed (including myself) and many people are still in denial but within two months time the truth will come out. The rating on this webpage of a 8.2 is a joke and is saturated with reviews from prelaunch people overly excited for this games release. Just check the dates on the reviews. Stay far far away from this galaxy.

Pretty Good MMO

Im a longtime WoW player, and I have to admit, graphics are AMAZING for a MMO, great gameplay, and pretty smooth CGI. WoW has finally met its match.

Best Pvp Yet!
PostedJanuary 13, 2012
This game is absolutely fantastic! I've played many mmos and haven't played one this good in years. The pvp is by far the best ever for an mmo. The 50s are getting their own bracket soon, so that complaint goes out the window. There is also a WHOLE PLANET dedicated to open world pvp. It's a great game as it is, with a staggering amount of content at launch, and more is coming so it's only going to get better. TOR is simply a masterpiece.
