Sonic Generations is a game made to commemorate Sonic's 20th Anniversary, and it was his best anniversary yet. This game was also released on the Xbox 360, PC, and 3DS, even though the 3DS version is completely different. This game features the younger, shorter Classic Sonic that many fans will remember from Sonic 1-3, and the taller, spikier Modern Sonic that many will remember from games like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. The story goes like this: Modern Sonic and his friends (ie. Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, etc.) are all out in a field celebrating Sonic's birthday, even though they never really tell you how old he is. Suddenly, a large purple monster (which many people say looks like the Phantom Blot from Epic Mickey) comes out of nowhere and sucks all of Sonic's friends into another dimension. Sonic tries to attack the monster but is knocked unconscious. When he finally awakes, he finds himself trapped in an odd white limbo and the story takes off. Each level is divided up into 2 acts. Act 1 features Classic Sonic running in a 2D environment to get to the end of the stage. Act 2 features Modern Sonic running in a primarily 3D environment. The entire game is divided up into three eras all based on time. The first era, the Genesis Era features Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, and Sky Sanctuary Zone. Representing the Dreamcast Era we have Speed Highway, City Escape, and Seaside Hill. Finally, for the modern era we have Crisis City, Rooftop Run ,and Planet Wisp. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this game is seeing what a 2D stage, like Green Hill, would look like in 3D, and vice versa for something like City Escape. The music is fantastic, every track is a remix of the original song. The graphics are probably the best in any Sonic game in a LONG time. Sonic Generations is a great game. If you have been into Sonic before, you definitely want to pick this one up. Even if you are just getting into the franchise for the first time, this is a good place to begin. And now with Sonic 4: Episode 2 coming out, I can't wait to see what that game has in store.

sonic generations is by far the best sonic game ever made other than sonic adventure 1&2 and all the genesis games including sonic cd the music really good too and the best thing is u can unlock songs and then use them on a different level are if have music saved on your ps3 u can even play your on music and story is really good too and epic just a bit short. the the gameplay for modern sonic is a mix between unleashed which i enjoyed and colors. and classic plays alot like from the genesis just a bit faster and the boss battles are really fun the best ones the end boss its just plain epic getting to see modern super sonic and even classic on the same screen over all its a game.

I think sega decided to put both classic sonic and modern sonic together to show modern fans why classic sonic has such a strong fanbase and show classic fans how awesome the modern gameplay is. that may not be true but it makes sense to me. With any luck sega will be able to unite the 2 fan bases. too bad adventure fans didn't get anything.

Although it might already seem obvious, no, I am not a Sonic the Hedgehog nut. So it is easier for me to point out obvious flaws in the game. Firstly the level desing, although it is better than the 3DS version, it STILL suffers from bland, and repetitive level desing. The level desing for both sonics hardly ever challenges you since you just have to hold left, throughout all the stages (up for modern Sonic.) Which makes the game feel extremely repetitive. The 2D platforming sections for both Sonics is just sloppy. I wonder why SEGA insists on always stacking a bunch of platforms that are easy to fall off of because of Sonics floaty, unresponsive jumping. The boss battles are all reincarnations of the previous one. They are mostly ALL races for crying out loud! The hub world is bland, and uninspired. It's not Sonic 2006 horrendous, but it sure is an overrated platformer. I saw the fans saying "It iz tHa bess gAme evar maDe!!!". But I have learned my lesson, never believe the covered-in-whool fans. Sonic Gen never even managed to get above an 80 on Metacritic! There are much better games out this holiday that you would be a fool to buy this over the other games I suggested below.

This is an awesome game!!! Sega brought back epic speed to the Sonic Franchise. Escape from the city is an epic stage that showcases that speed. Beautiful levels are showcased in this game, case in point, Sky Sanctuary. The game looks awesome with or without a tv with 3-D capabilities. Sega brought the best elements of Sonic 3-D games. Both modern and classic Sonic stages have good level design and bring back the elements of what makes Sonic The Hedgeog so fun!!! Best sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 in my opinion. Overall, a 10 out 10 in my book!!!!!!!

This is such an excellent game. You play through a level from each sonic game (well the main ones) as classic sonic with a classic level design and modern sonic with a rethought modern level design. The levels look outstanding, and its great to play through different versions of them. As I played through a level from each game, I felt like I was reliving my childhood. This game really redeems SEGA from the mediocre Sonic Colors that was released last year. I would recommend this game to anyone. Can't wait to try the 3ds one.

This game was an enjoyment for my friends and I, and it is also a great game for everyone else. The reason is that this game brings back all of the most beloved levels from Sonic The Hedgehog's past. What more can a gamer ask for! Also they bring back a lot of sonic's friends(Old & New), like Espio,Charmy,Vector,Rouge,Blaze,Amy,Cream,Knuckles, and Tails. Even some of Sonic's rivals as well like Silver, Metal Sonic,Shadow, and Dr. Eggman. This game to everyone, and a great way to celebrate Sonic The Hedgehog's 20th Birthday.
