Gaming had been waiting for earphones like this! I just got my first pair as a early Valentines Day gift from my girlfriend and I believe these just made her wifey material! the sound quality is incredible, you're cheating yourself if you dont get a pair, it makes the gaming experience 100x better.

Quirks aside, this is a great headset...

I'm not a big "gamer", per se. I play less than an hour a day and probably spend less than 5 hours gaming in a typical week. But when I do get on, it's usually at night after the house has quieted down. The last thing my wife wants to hear while she's laying in bed reading is the loud rumblings of my gaming blasting over our Bose audio system. Enter the Sony Wireless Headset. I knew going in that I wanted wireless because my TV is across the living room from the couch. I hate wires. HATE them. Bravo to Sony for making this happen in a $100 package. Should they have been Bluetooth? Yes. I docked a point on Design for having to use the stupid little dongle thing. Thankfully, Sony had the foresight to put multiple USB hubs on the PS3 so I'm not constantly switching from one device to the other. But they should have taken the BT radio from their little wireless earpiece and stuck it in this unit. There's an issue with my receiver dongle also. When plugged directly into my PS3, it cuts out. A lot. It didn't do it at first, but I recently moved my wireless router and modem to the bottom shelf of my TV stand and that's when it started. 10 seconds on, 10 seconds off... Annoying doesn't even begin to describe it. I had a leftover USB extension cable from another product and moved my dongle about 2 feet to the left. Problem solved. I docked a couple of points for performance on this because it shouldn't happen. Period. And if Sony had given us Bluetooth in this headset, it wouldn't have been an issue at all. Shame on you, Sony! I also docked a point from the Design category for the microphone. It feels cheap and flimsy. Not like the rest of the headset which feels extremely solid and comfortable. Also, there's a bright blue light on the end of the microphone that my eye catches every once in a while if the room is dark. It's pretty weird and I think a better spot for the light would have been on the side of the headset. Something subtle that wouldn't interfere with game play or vision. The headset does feel rather well made, though and it fits me really well. Any bigger and we'd have a problem. These definitely weren't made with children in mind. The sound quality is more than adequate. Games and movies sound good. Bass is responsive and well balanced with the middle tones and highs. They're a little bit muddled as compared to my surround sound, but they set me back about one-eighth the price and they fit on my head so I can't really compare the two. All-in-all, a superb headset for the casual gamer. If you want 7.1 or the best sound possible, look elsewhere. But for a wireless headset in the $100-or-less price range, you can't go wrong with these.
