Awesome, best console yet
PostedApril 14, 2012
The ps3 is the best console yet. It has amazing graphics, addictive exclusive games, and many features that is more than just entertainment. Some of the exclusive games include the Uncharted series, the Gran Turismo series, Little Big Planets 1 and 2, and so many more. The only downside is how expensive the controllers are. $54.99!!! At least you don't have to replace the batteries.

Decent

OK, so I will say this much, while the hardware specs of the PS3 do outshine those of the 360, you're probably not going to see a difference here. It's honestly imperceptible.
I originally got a PS3 (my first was about a month after the "slim" was introduced) for 2 reasons; free online, and God of War III. Turns out the system really didn't have much else to offer though. Most of the best games out there are produced for both the 360 and PS3, and to be honest, the games look all the same. The only 1st party title that I was concerned about was God of War, and to that end, it was a fantastic, and still to this day, gorgeous game.
But onto the hardware itself. Up until September of this year, my system seemed to be working fine. Then one day as I'm playing my old copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PS1, my system starts making this ghoulish noise. Something akin to teeth scratching on a chalkboard. Turns out it's something in the disc drive. Don't know what, but something was hanging down into where the disc spins, scratching the top of the disc. How do I know that? Well, my copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with its stylish ring of scratched paint tells the story pretty well. My issue with this is I have no idea what could have caused it. One minute the system is working fine, the next it's destroying my discs completely out of the blue...if I lay it flat. Turns out if I stood the system up on its side, whatever is hanging down into the disc drive moved out of the way...sometimes. Seems like every time I would try to install a game onto the HDD the system would get angry and start the scratching again; there's no way to stop it there. I literally had to buy two copies of a game if it needed an installation. One that would get scratched up from the install process, and the other to keep in pristine condition. The result? If a game was available for the 360, I got it there. I will say this much, it saved me grief from Skyrim.
The next problem occurred just last night. I downloaded Skullgirls, and as I was waiting for it to finish I decided to go back and play Fallout 3: GotY. I leveled up, got to the perk selection screen and decided I was a little hungry. I left it there and went out to grab a quick snack. When I got home, I took a quick shower, and went back to my game to discover...it was frozen. I couldn't do anything and my control's player one light was blinking indicating there was an issue connecting to the system. I couldn't turn it off via the control or the power button on the system, I had to pull the plug. To make a long story short; I could no longer access the XMB, I followed the steps recommended on Sony's support site using the systems safe mode to no avail. Once again, this happened completely randomly. I even talked with Sony this time, and they're totally baffled. Their solution was to try a system restore. I told them I don't think this is an issue with the HDD; I think there's an issue with the hardware itself. Of course they said they can't verify that unless I send it in for service, which would run me...$175...yeah, no chance. I picked up a new one.
I called up my friend, told him the situation, and he said before I format the other hard drive, let him see if he can get it working on the new PS3. I'm not really sure what he did, but he slapped it in the new console, started it up, and there was all my stuff, just like on my old system. So basically, their customer service was also a fail.
I'd also like to mention that my 360 is the old white one, I bought it a little less than a year after it came out; back when the systems of that period were given free extended warranties due to rampant RoD issues. I haven't had a single issue with it yet, and as a bonus I can listen to my music while playing ANY game. Why isn't this feature on the PS3? If my Android phone can play games and music simultaneously, and so can the 360, what makes it so complex on the PS3?
If it weren't for the fact that I have an OCD habit of needing as many game systems as possible, I'd probably have left the system to rot. If you have a 360, realize the only thing you really need to consider is if the PS3's 1st party games are enough to get you to buy it.
