Maybe it is because you used up your memory or you had blocked the vents on the PS3 and it overheated

SkullerX's Playstation 3 Review
PostedJanuary 2, 2012
Performance:
The playstation series has been around for quite some time now which makes most people to believe the Playstation 3 should hold up to it's name. The PS3 (Slim) holds up to this by offering the grand daddy of slick consoles. In short, the PS3 offers spec wise:
- Screen resolutions from 480i up to 1080p
- Analog and Digital Audio
- Blue Ray Capabilities (HDMI Cord Required)
- Unique CPU and GPU Unit's (Really powerful none-the-less)
- 250 Watts of power usage (Better then its bigger older PS3 versions)
- 2x USB 2.0 Ports (For controllers mostly, maybe a headset)
- A CD,DVD and BD Drive all in one.
- Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 2.0 (For wireless headsets and such)
The PS3 Slim can handle all of it's games to utmost quality and performance, never threatening to kill you with graphic slowdown problems at any time (Unless it's a game developers fault) and runs movies very smoothly. While the Xbox 360 has the infamous RroD issue, the PS3 does not seem to suffer from a similiar fate (Known as a YLOD = Yellow Light of Death) as much as the rival due to good manufacturing habits and overall possible luck.

Functionality:
The PS3 lives up to it's name 95% of the way of it can pretty much do anything. The PS3 can: Play games, Watch Movies, Be used as a computer (It has a built in web browser which works best with a USB mouse and keyboard), it can literally be turned into a super computer (Consult google, its perfectly legal, I checked), chat with people with video/voice or both and use YOU to play as well (Like a Wii on steroids). The PS3 does have setbacks though needless to say. The PS3 lacks a Party Chat like system unlike it's rival Xbox 360 which keeps gamers from talking to each other in big groups who are all playing 1 or more games then the others. The PS3 also seems to require that most if not ALL of it's games must be stored on it's Harddrive which can suck up alot of space quickly if you have a small harddrive (Luckily the newer PS3 Slims have 160+Gig Harddrives included; Thanks Sony!). This is balanced out however with the Playstation Network's mass options. Apart from being able to game online COMPLETELY FREE unlike its Xbox rival, it also has many video/music options (Subscriptions of course) like Hulu, Netflix, as well as PS3 only titles and services (Like Littlebigplanet for games and Playstation Home for services in example) as well as interesting features like the ability to edit/upload videos to youtube from certain games for you up to 10 minutes long (Machinima anyone?). While I could go on discussing all the features included, it would take a very long time.
--
Value:
The PS3 Slim is sold at $250 in the United States. This makes it cheaper then it's Xbox 360 rival by a whole $50 (When comparing using the same Harddrive size and type). Which coupled with the Free Networking unlike the rival, makes the Playstation 3 very valuable.

Overall Review:
The PS3 Slim has impressed many and still has a lot to offer in today and the coming day's, whatever they bring you or your family. Giving the Playstation 3 (Slim) a 9 out of 10.

It depends...can you live without the PS3 exclusive games? If you can, just stick with Xbox. Mine just did the same thing last night. Complete waste of $300. A system should last more than just a year (or in your case a few months). Apperently sony just makes bad products. I don't think I'm going to bother getting a new one, but I need to look over my games 1st.

Making Compromises to Achieve "Greatness"...
PostedDecember 30, 2011
In comparison to the older PS3 models the lighter weight is pleasant enough to make the system easier to move around, but the lack of the backwards-compatibility feature makes the game library somewhat slimmer. The addition of the PSOne and PS2 classics in the PlayStation Store is welcome enough to compensate, but the online library is not yet expansive enough to justify either trading in one's old PS2 system and games towards the PS3. I had gotten the Yellow Light of Death on my backwards-compatible 80 GB model, and though it pained me to part with it I had no choice as the rest of my friends and family wish to keep up with games that will be hitting the market in the near future - namely Final Fantasy XIV. I didn't wish to repair it only to push it to the edge again by overclocking the system, so I caved and bought the Slim model. Hopefully someday soon, Sony will make the PS3 experience even more worthwhile, but for now: The free online multi-player, social hubs and free access to media-on-demand services (Netflix, Hulu, Qriocity, etc.) still trumps that of Xbox Live - the latter of which you NEED a Gold Membership to access with - and which I'm only using to play Kinect-based games anyway. In short, if you want to save yourself the hassle of constant maintenance of your hardware for your system: Pick up the Slim PS3. If tinkering with the older models and the "OtherOS" feature is more your cup of tea - go with the backwards-compatible models that were refurbished.
