Despite its faults, I love this game!
Location: Phoenix, AZ
This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
NOW READ THIS--the game DOES have faults, it is by no means perfect--but I've played FAR bigger budget games that had far less attention to detail in the environments and gameplay, and most of all--this game is FUN!!!! I LOVED turn-based tactical strategy games--this game is a hybrid pause/real-time system, but it retains the "feel" of the original games and IMO I actually like this system better! X-com and JA/JA2 were my favorite games of all time. I love the RTS adaptation of this game. Many won't, but I'm glad I took the leap of faith and tried it as a long, long time tactical strategy fan. It just feels like the original and is a BLAST to play, even with its bugs (some ammo doesn't match it's real-world counterpart, etc). If you're not a JA elitist, can overlook some minor bugs (the developers have already put out two patches and a large patch is otw), you enjoy tactical squad-based games like x-com/JA you'll enjoy this one as well.
Jagged alliance could have been a really solid title, with quite a bit to offer and a interesting game take for tactical company command. I was really happy with the different weapons and night/day ops and feel of the game play. The game though is over run with game breaking bugs and technical issues that make it currently unplayable. Squad members receiving orders to stand idle for minutes at a time getting shot to death is the most annoying that comes to mind. Queuing up multiple actions can lead to a squad member failing even the simplest task even if they are all shoot x target over and over. If X line of sights across a tree or uneven elevation for even a split second he will just stand there and die to the AI. Sometimes canceling out and requeuing will not even fix this and he will still just stand there and get shot to death. Along with NPC's blocking your progress and forcing restarts due to them room blocking and you can not kill civilians early on since you have no aoe damage and cant directly target them. Mostly happens in the school early on as the kids chase you and can block you in the smaller back room while you search and you can not move them and get stuck and have to reload (hope you save often). AI can be lured though and is fairly simple once you figure out every thing can be solved with rockets and lots of them. Saves issues with having to troublesome issues like waiting 45 seconds praying your characters shoots his pistol before he gets shot to death by npc who manages to squeeze off 9 rounds and reload while you stand looking at him aiming. Game can be frustrating in it's current form. Would wait unless you like to pull your hair out.
