Assassin's Creed III

The American Colonies, 1775. It's a time of civil unrest and political upheaval in the Americas. As a Native American assassin fights to protect his land and his people, he will ignite the flames of a young nation's revolution. Assassin's Creed® III takes you back to the American Revolutionary War, but not the one you've read about in history books.

This game blew my mind. With all of this area playable, it's hard to imagine how long it took to make this game. Most of the time creators will just throw in repetitive terrain and allow you to run around in it only to call it an "open-world" game. The creators of this game really put effort into the frontier in order to make it a real open-world game. The free-running is very fluid and is pristine. I love how they do not allow you to run off a cliff unless you jump off. The naval missions made me sceptical at first but, it turned out great. BUY THIS GAME PEOPLE!!!!!!

Great game, great graphics, fun gameplay, good multiplayer, and a great story. But, there are some problems. One, there are some glitches. Not many, but they could use to make some patches. Also, I had a very strange glitch once, I flew up in the air, and then fell and died. Also after fast traveling, I encountered a horrible glitch. The environment looked terrible, the grass was white, and a butload of pop in textures. Gameplay can be repetitive also, though cool animations help it be a little less repetitive. Connor's different than Ezio, but he is still great. Though, I prefer Ezio.

This was my first ps3 game. My first to pass. My favorite. The game I could not stop playing. was the funniest game out of my all the ps3. The game is very bloody with ceartin weapons [moms] The graphics look real. The only issue I have is after I passed the main missions it got boring, so I quit. I never did get around to the online. I still own it.

I was honestly really excited for this game. After seeing all the gameplay and trailers it looked like it was going to turn the series around after the lackluster Brotherhood and Revelations entries. But I realized that my expectations had been set to high soon after I picked up the game. A huge problem is that for the first three chapters you don't even get to play as the main character. (and the character you play as can't even hunt or climb trees... the reason I bought the game) But about a forth of the way into the game you get to play as the main character, Conor. Once you start playing as him the story and gameplay options open up and you get to meet some interesting "celebrities" of history such as George Washington. Also the tree climbing is just as good as we all hoped and the hunting is enjoyable. (not as good as Red Dead's) And all would have been good if it weren't for the repetitive missions, glitchy graphics, and painful gameplay. (especially when your trying to sneak around) So if you want to save yourself some time and frustration, do not get this game.

This was by far the worst ac game ever. Connor was a the worst ac character, he had too many emotions and was downright lame. The setting of the american revolution was lame and really could not fit an assassin storyline. The story sucked and completely screwed over the entire series I would not recommend this game to anyone.

Well worth the money,I have played all Assassin's Creed games and AC3 seems to be the best so far. Game play is an easy pick up and play which makes it great for the casual gamer.Sound and voice over are excellent . Graphics are very appealing except for very few minor flaws in some of the rock formations but that's all that I have seen so far . Lasting appeal is long if you want to get 100% completion . If this is any sign of whats to come in AC Black Flag I'm saving up for it . AC3 has a great selection of DLC .

I went in very excited for Assassin's Creed 3, having played every game in the series thus far. All of this excitement, however, was misplaced. As I played the game, the story was quite good. I wanted to see what happened, who was involved, see how it related to history. Connor was a great character who seemed to grow throughout the experience, but Desmond seemed to drag the story down with his bland and linear sequences. The draw distance and frame rate were also very poor, making it feel as though I was playing the game on a potato. It would have benefited from a next gen release. The fact that Ubisoft feels the need to push out a new AC game every year is leaving something to be desired. The games offer nothing new or exciting to the series, They even made sprint and free run the same button, causing numerous infuriating moments in game as you have to chase someone, but keep jumping on everything that is near you.Ubisoft needs to work on their priorities and do something quick, or the series will sink in a sea of repetitive gameplay and bland story.

Right when I started to play this game, I could tell that it was going to be great. The setting is amazing. I love exploring Boston, New York, and the Frontier. There are so many different things to do. The graphics are outstanding, which makes free-running and hunting and fighting an amazing experience. With so many weapons to choose from, so many enemies to assassinate, and so many missions to complete, this is definitely a great game. The only thing that has kind of bothered me besides the glitches, is Desmond. I always preferred just being Connor, and not so much Desmond. The present day missions aren't nearly as fun.

I never played any of the other games before this one, but when I saw the trailer, I had to have it! The setting and background sold me on it. I love the game, and want to go back and play the others now.... The graphics are great and the story line delivers 100%. Plenty of content to fill a lot of time and get your moneys worth out of it. My only complaint, which I noticed in some other reviews also. Is the controls, they can get to be annoying at times, and seem slow to respond at times also.

Overall, this game was a disappointment. It’s rather unfortunate since the prior games were extraordinary and, as the releases kept coming, the games kept getting better - with added abilities and upgrades to the gameplay. This game brought with it some upgraded moves (Killing on-the-go is quite handy!) but lacks in too many other areas.
My biggest gripe is the change of the controls! I know that’s more of a personal preference but I feel they should’ve done what so many others have done with their games and allowed one to change control-sets. SSX was rebooted in 2012 and, while they changed the default control-set, they allowed the option for the old-school layout. Naturally, I opted for the old-school layout and played the game just fine. I had other reservations about SSX but at least they weren’t exacerbated by a new control-set that was forced upon me. I don’t think it would’ve been that complex to allow a similar choice in AC3. I really hope they can release an update or a DLC pack - which I’d gladly pay for - so that one can change control-sets. These new controls come with issues with the combat aspect of the game. The camera gets blocked by a tree or a building now and then. The impressive (and accidental) finishing moves are seen periodically but I still don’t know how to perform them at will. I still can’t figure out how to grab someone and use them as a human shield when about to be shot.
Altaïr & AC1’s story was a lead-in for Ezio’s character in AC2, ACB & ACR. This too was (presumably/hopefully) supposed to be a lead-in to the next character for the upcoming games. Because of this, you will feel as though the game’s timeline is a bit rushed. You’ll experience Connor’s short time with the Assassins. However, even though you spent very little time with Altaïr in the first AC, you still felt like you finished the game and felt there was some sort of connection with him. In this game, the story is so rushed that you don’t feel much of a connection with Connor. (I’m part Cherokee and I didn’t feel a connection!) I’m not saying they needed to break it into multiple games; I’m just saying they could’ve left a few things out and maybe added them into subsequent games. After all, they trickled in some Altaïr with all the Ezio games and it was done rather well, I thought.
There are side-missions and other aspects to the game that I still don’t fully understand. It seems as though they added very little help. Again, I was no doubt sidetracked by the new controls and didn’t have time or the attention span to follow what little help they gave me. In previous games, I have rather large sums of money in my possession but in this game, I can’t afford to purchase the weapons I have available to me. Furthermore, finding where to purchase them is a bit tough as well. I’m managed to find a few shops here and there but that’s it. I understand this is Colonial America and there weren’t many Walmarts kicking around the frontier but you can’t tell me that Altaïr had more places to acquire goods than Connor. I’ve tried going back and working on all the side-missions but the level of frustration this game gives me is a bit more than I feel like dealing with in order to raise its replay value.
I live outside of Philadelphia so I’m relatively close to places featured in the game. Valley Forge is no more than 30 minutes from me. Boston and New York are a bit further but, generally speaking, I’m living in the middle of the bulk of the Revolutionary War’s battlefields. This aspect of the game brings it a little closer to home for me but it’s still not enough to allow for a better review. Frankly, I miss Mediterranea (Southern Europe & Western Asia)! With how Ezio’s life ended, I was hoping for AC3 to take place in the Far East. Maybe they’ll tie AC3 into that branch of the story somehow. Time will tell.
In previous games, one could roam around the areas outside the cities. Once again, you can do that in this game. It’s not bad... I think I spend more time hunting in the frontier than doing anything else due to my frustration with the rest of the game. Traversing the trees and cliffs is rather fluid and a great way to gain an elevated advantage over your opponents or prey.
The checkpoint system is still lacking. I’m pretty sure I had the same issue with the previous games. If you fall out of sync, they make you restart from a checkpoint. That’s fine but if you’re going to take me back in time and start me over at a checkpoint, give me the same tools and objects I had at that point in time. Several missions were not completed with a 100% sync rating because they’d start me over at a checkpoint with fewer (if any) arrows than I had before the restart! Through trial and error, I’d deplete my ammunition supply and then be left with nothing more than a blade to do the job. At that point, all you could do was hack your way through the mission.
The boat missions were cool now and then but over time, they became practically impossible to achieve a 100% sync rating. You’d be told not to take damage whilst in the midst of battling a dozen other ships. These boats aren’t exactly as nimble as fighter jets; you’re going to get caught in the beehive of cannonfire. So, over time, these missions added to my frustration.
Viewpoints seem to be fewer and far between. There are areas of my map that are blank until I wander through them on foot or horseback. At least with previous games, you could climb a viewpoint and see others. This would help you get around. Now, you’re left with blank areas that may hold useful intel or goods but you don’t know about them unless you get bored and wander around the areas. I’m all for exploring the environment but I shouldn’t have to do so for an obscene length of time. I should be able to climb up on a roof or into a tree and look around to see a nearby viewpoint. On my map, you can see blank areas and then see the trails I’ve created in them by riding through it. I spend a lot of time looking to the sky, hoping I’ll see the telltail sign of eagles circling a viewpoint, only to give up on the area and move on through the blank map.
The soundtrack is okay but not as good, in my opinion, as the others. I own all of them and enjoy listening to them throughout my day at work. I just don’t think it’s as strong as the other 4... I’m no music nut; I like what I like. I even went so far as to comment on the YouTube channel of the young woman who did the vocals for the ACR soundtrack - commending her on her work. This one, however, just seems rather bland. There are a few tracks on it that are okay but nothing that really gets stuck in your head.
There are still bugs in the game. I expect this is normal and I’m not overly worked up about it. However, I think they rushed the game a bit just so they could meet their typical Q4 release schedule they’ve had for years. In fact, the other day I walked up to climb a wall and fell through the map! I bet you didn’t know there’s water everywhere - underneath the buildings too! I was swimming for several minutes, trying to find a hole to magically pop through the docks, but ended up having to quit the game and come back in again. Beyond that, running up walls or climbing things you never meant to climb is still an issue. It’s sad to say but I think I’ve accepted that as normal for this series. Frankly, it’s no doubt hard to code such a game that allows you to climb almost anything in the environment. It’ll no doubt never be 100%.
As always, attention to detail was pretty high on the list when the game was developed. To watch any AC environment is a treat. I really enjoyed this in previous games. Walking down the streets was always fun when you could just watch NPCs do whatever they were doing. In this game, you experience more of the same but I prefer to wander in the woods and watch & listen. I’ve seen wolves take down deer. I’ve seen squirrels in the trees. I’ve watched the moon move across the sky. However, little things still bug me. How you can have Redcoats and Colonial Regulars on the same street is beyond me. Shouldn’t they be killing each other? They most certainly should not be chasing me down the street - as a team! I love messing with the guys fishing from the docks. You can knock the fishing rod from their hands and watch them continue to cast over and over as if the rod were still in their hands. That seems like an easy detail to fix. Maybe just have the guy get a little bitter, grumble and then walk away... The all-seeing AI seems a bit off too. How can I be spotted on the roof by guards when I can’t even see them. More often than not, they’re over the peak of the roof, behind a tree or a chimney. Coming from a shooting background, if I can see them, they can see me. Evidently, that general rule doesn’t exist in this game.
All in all, this game was a disappointment. With the cumbersome new control-set and the story that seemed overly rushed and lacking, it’s hard to give this game much in the way of replay value. I’ve played the previous games - several times over - and still enjoy roaming around in those old environments. Before ACR was released, I played through all 3 of the previous titles. Before this game was released, I played through all 4 of the previous titles. I wanted so much from this game and, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll get it. I’m hoping new DLC will allow for a higher replay value but from what I’ve seen of the DLC thus far, I’m sure I’ll be let down again. I feel ripped off by my purchase of the game and the DLC’s season pass. I truly regret paying as much as I did to get this game and it’s season pass.

This game is great and manages to keep the franchise alive by separating itself from its previous versions, and the flaws in this game are so minor that only a perfectionist would complain. Overall, this is an amazing game and well worth the money spent.

Honestly don't see what the big deal is about this game, it's not that good, AC and COD are exactly the same because the only reason the games get such good reviews is because the series is popular, just like COD AC never changes the game except for the campaign, don't waste your money on this game.

I am a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed games, and I keep going back to Brotherhood and Revelations. But this game just falls flat. The character Connor seems to just be going through the motions, with nothing in the way of a real story or any kind of motivation, and no personality to speak of. The whole game, and Connor as a character, felt forced and rushed. There is, for me, no reason to give it a second run through, and the side missions don't add anything to the game at all. It's a huge disappointment.
A huge great deal was made of Connor's ability to dual-wield weapons, but I felt that it was a purely cosmetic change. It didn't really add anything to gameplay except some cool graphics. In fact, the developers took away the body oriented controls, so "dual wielding" was done by just pushing a single button, rather than giving us the ability to actually use two weapons.
On a more positive note, I grew up in the area the game takes place, and the terrain in the game is very much true to the real terrain. And the naval battles were a lot of fun for me.
But all in all, the game's only real saving grace for me is the online multiplayer. Others may disagree, but I've been a solo gamer for many years, and this is the first game I've tried multiplayer on. It's great fun.
