I thought it had a great story but unfortunately that's just the ONLY thing on this Wii U version. There is no escalation on it. If you want escalation, I recommend another system to buy this on.

Bought this game with high hopes, given how awesome the High Moon Studios Transformer titles were. This was a terrible letdown on a number of levels. Now granted, this is the Wii U version. You can't expect everything from it, nor did I. However, the graphics are more or less lifted from Fall of Cybertron but without any polish to them. In fact, it seems more like it lost a lot in translation. The weapons are exactly the same, though maybe a tad more balanced (The Riot Cannon isn't quite the harbinger of death it was). No new enemies, just re-skins of old ones. Even the new main playable characters are mainly re-skins. Sideswipe is Jazz. Hardshell (Bombshell for us G1's) is Cliffjumper. Drift is the only bot to bring in a new trick. There weren't even many new animations for the characters, the "rip open the door" animations are directly lifted from Fall. Even the music seems 90% lifted from Fall of Cybertron. Even if the graphics themselves can be blamed on the Wii U's hardware, the terrible A.I. can't be. Multiple times I had to beat computer controlled characters (both allies and enemies) into the right place so scripted sequences could happen because they didn't realize they were walking into a wall. Other times enemies would simply hover around oblivious to you targeting them. The absolute worst part of this, however, is the terrible story. The game tries to combine the story of the previous games into something from the new movie (also abysmal, from all I heard) but never really succeeds in building a grand, coherent or contiguous story. Characters are also one dimensional, and worst of all is what they do to Grimlock. Not only do they retain the disgusting Age of Extinction character design, he becomes something of a cross between the Hulk, Shockwave, Omega Supreme and Frankenstein's monster. He speaks only once, where he gives oddly logical yet one to two word answers (hence the Omega/Shockwave likeness), then he switches over to grunts and growls as he thrashes about, never once gives a "Me, Grimlock!" A far cry from where you could see his waiter's outfit in Fall of Cybertron. Even the ending and end credits lack the Transformers love that High Moon put in. It's just a credits roll. There are a few little nods snuck in with character quotes, but nothing like the previous games. And I think this is where you see why this game is so marginal at best. When Apple made the iPod, they did it in part because Steve Jobs loved music. That passion showed in the quality product they made. When Microsoft wanted in on the payday, they made the Zune, and it was terrible because there was no passion, just a money maker. This game is Edge of Reality's Zune compared to High Moon Studio's iPods. It does what it means to do, it'll entertain you if you're just looking for another 3rd person shooter, but not if you're a Transformers die hard, and let's face it, the main reason you want to buy this is because you are. Hopefully Activision gets the message that this game is a disaster and gives the property, and the writing duties, back to High Moon Studios.

I haven't played any other Transformers game. I just want this because of Age of Extinction!
